TABLE  OF  CONTENTS
Greetings from your Editor...
I ain't superstitious... well, a little

Are you superstitious? Does Friday the 13th make you think about being a little extra careful? An element of magic and superstition is woven through much of the blues.... notably the infamous "mojo"... used sometimes to sway the affections of men or women. "I got my mojo working, but it just won't work on you." (Muddy Waters "Got My Mojo Working"). For some it may be time to whip out the John The Conqueror Root or a black cat bone. "I believe my good gal has found a black cat bone. I can leave Sunday morning, Monday morning I'm sitting back home." (Blind Lemon Jefferson "Broke and Hungry Blues").

I can't say that unforeseen consequences haven't crossed my mind, but l still "ain't superstitious" (like Howlin' Wolf) when a black cat crosses my trail, and I've never felt like I was "born under a bad sign," (like Albert King). In fact, years back, on another Friday the 13th, I rolled a truck 250 feet off a cliff while living in the Santa Cruz Mountains (California) and only cut my lip (and caught a bad case of poison oak scrambling up the side of that hill). My neighbor drove me to the nearest phone to make sure my son had a ride home from school before taking me down the hill to get x-rays. We then fortunately just missed being crushed by a cement truck that backed up too far off a driveway and crashed to the road where we had been parked just minutes before while using the phone. I personally think Friday the 13th is my lucky day.

June 15th is Father's Day. Celebrate your father, your papa, your ol' man, your daddy... heck, your sugar daddy!

Birthdays of note coming up: June 12 Kenny Wayne Shepherd (1977); June 13 James Carr (1942); June 18 Sara Martin (1884); June 19 Jerry McCain (1930), Big Bill Morganfield (1956); June 20 Lazy Lester (1933)

Bob Corritore :: TABOO
Bob Corritore steps up his game with Taboo, and all-instrumental platter, which best captures the seasoned wisdom of his ever-expanding harmonica prowess. The album highlights and explores the beauty of blues harmonica with a mostly original, brilliantly diverse repertoire, marked by a decidedly noteworthy cast of supporting musicians including Jimmie Vaughan, Junior Watson, Fred Kaplan, Doug James, Papa John DeFrancesco, Richard Innes and others. Chock-full of enticing grooves, captivating moods and charming melodies, Taboo is simply a joy to behold, a sentiment echoed by world-renowned harmonica virtuoso Charlie Musselwhite, who acknowledges that, "Not many people can do an all instrumental harp CD and keep it interesting all the way through. You've got a dandy CD here. A real treat."
