Message from Karen
Dear friends,

On June 24, 1996, I discovered my voice and my passion when I taught my first yoga class.  It's been an amazing journey that continues to grow and evolve, both personally and as teacher, mentor, and student of yoga.

Yoga has proven to offer timeless tools for improving the quality of my life.  In fact, yoga has helped me to become a better version of myself - less reactive, open to different possibilities, kinder, more patient, and happier.  And all of these benefits point to the fact that true yoga is really an inside job.  The tools of yoga help us to get there.

I am incredibly grateful to the many teachers who have paved the path with their own practice and shared their skills and insights with me.

I am especially grateful to the many students who have joined me on this path of self discovery.  You have enriched my life and surrounded me with love.  I always look forward to class with you.

Please join me this summer either through a class series or drop-in.  You are always welcome.

Om shanti, Karen

p.s.  Photo taken at my daughter's wedding at Greenport Long Island.  My husband and I walked Rebecca down the stepping stones to the beach.  So lovely!  I love that the prayer flags were already there.

Yoga and the 4 Stages of Healing:
Rest, Restore, Rebuild, RememberTM
Therapeutic Adaptive Yoga for People Living with Chronic Illnesses / Autoimmune Diseases
You’ve lost something.  You’ve lost your vitality.  Maybe it slipped away overnight.  Or maybe it seeped out of you so slowly that it’s hard to remember what feeling good feels like.   Sometimes the body needs to rest.  And illness is one of the ways that can happen.

At some point in our lives, many of us will experience a serious health event.  This may be physical, mental, or spiritual or a combination.  Often these events are brought on by stress or eventually cause stress related health challenges including depression, indigestion, inflammation, insomnia, weakened immune system and so on.

Reclaim your radiant well-being with Yoga and the 4 Stages of Healing:  Rest, Restore, Rebuild, RememberTM.  This program combines learning with doing so that you take home practical lifestyle tools that move you closer to feeling good again.

This is an all levels event that provides CEUs for certified yoga teachers.  Open to serious students of yoga, yoga teachers, and individuals who want to feel good again.

Presenter:  Karen O’Donnell Clarke,
B.S., ERYT500, PYT1000
Karen found the healing path of yoga as a teenager more than four decades ago.  Yoga has informed her life ever since, enabling her to thrive after her diagnosis of multiple sclerosis in 1997 and more recently cancer in 2012.  She has lived the 4 Stages of Healing repeatedly during her lifetime journey toward freedom.
Thai Yoga Therapy with Tricia McAvoy
I recently had a Thai Yoga Therapy session with Tricia.  It was exactly what I needed.  I had a lot of neck tension and an achey hip.  By the time the session was over, I felt so much better.  Tricia is intuitive, knowledgeable, and experienced.  She brings a lot of skill to the session.  This is what Tricia says about Thai Yoga Therapy:

"Thai Yoga Therapy has often been called Lazy-Man's Yoga. It's a practice where your yoga is done for you!  The practitioner guides the client in passive yoga stretches that work all the major muscles & joints in the body. In Thailand this work is considered energy work since all the major meridians of the body are also cleared through the practice.

After a Thai Yoga experience, clients will feel both energized as well as relaxed (like a good yoga practice but even better)."

Tricia McAvoy has been practicing Thai Yoga Therapy since 2004. She received her initial and advanced training from the Lotus Palm School out of Montreal. She is also a certified Reiki Master Teacher and a 500-hr certified Yoga Teacher.

Chakra Yoga Therapy Workshop

Save the Date!
Saturday, August 23, 2014

Chakra Yoga Therapy Workshop at
St. James Church in Preston, CT

The 7 main chakras are energy centers that correspond to locations within the body from the base of the spine to the crown of the head.  These energy centers store sense impressions accumulated from before our birth throughout our life experiences.  The impressions that we store influence our thoughts, behaviors, beliefs, attitudes, preferences, choices and so much more.

Yoga postures are one of the tools that can be used to balance these centers as well as mudras, pranayama, and yoga nidra.  Other tools can include the 5 elements, Ayurveda, journaling, vision boards and more.

This workshop serves as the kick off for a Chakra Yoga Therapy Studies series that begins in September.  In this program you'll learn to - recognize areas of the body that are prone to weakness and the corresponding chakras to help you to identify where you may be blocked and where you may be expansive, identify patterns that are useful and unuseful, and use a variety of tools for self-understanding and change so that you can live the life you truly want.

Relay for Life
I'm walking in Maine this weekend with my cousin Deanna Jackson.  We've done this walk together since her diagnosis of breast cancer in 2010.  I missed the walk in 2012 because I was being treated for cancer.  Last year, Deanna's mother and my aunt Esther was with us at the walk,  Little did we know that she had pancreatic cancer and wouldn't make it to another walk.  This year we walk for her.  If you want to donate to this cause, click on this link.
