TABLE  OF  CONTENTS
Greetings from your Editor...
Boogie Chillen...

John Lee Hooker, born August 22, 1917, was one of the the major post-war bluesmen that had migrated from the deep South. His first number one hit, "Boogie Chillen" was scored in 1948, yes, 66 years ago. His music became infectious and instantly recognizable and he hooked us with his simple yet hypnotic grooves, and influenced countless artists. As two of his album titles declared, he was Mr. Lucky and still is The Healer.

The John Lee Hooker Foundation was established by his family in 2001 to provide music and art education to underprivileged, under-recognized and at-risk children. The Foundation "intends to preserve John Lee Hooker’s generous and compassionate spirit and ensure that young people from all walks of life have access to cultural, musical and artistic exposure."

His legacy continues... so in his honor, let's "boogie chillen"... the boogie is "in there and it's gotta come out."

Birthdays of note: Aug 21 Count Basie (1904); Aug 22 John Lee Hooker (1917), Debbie Davies (1952); Aug 24 Arthur "Big Boy" Crudup (1905), Wynonie Harris (1915); Aug 26 Jimmy Rushing (1901); Aug 29 Dinah Washington (1924)
Aug 30 Luther "Snake Boy" Johnson (1934)

Thorbjørn Risager & The Black Tornado ::
TOO MANY ROADS
Too Many Roads is the natural next step for Thorbjørn Risager & The Black Tornado. Not just because faithful fans will buy it, but also because it reflects the artistic ambitions, the song writing, and the band’s development as a whole. “The songs work better than ever,” says Risager, “and the sound is the best we’ve had so far.” For this latest recording the band assembled a strong team for its recording session at the Medley Studio in Copenhagen, with Søren Andersen as engineer and Jesper Yebo Reginal in charge of mixing. This time the band has chosen to produce the album itself.

IMP & BLENZ Internet Radio Dedicated to Indie Artists
The BLENZ, owned and operated by Pete Unstead, is one of the first stations in New Zealand to air an Indie artist on FM radio. Now a dedicated Indie radio station, they’re playing Indie music 24/7 with featured shows like The Best Of Indie and Indie Blues which showcase new artists each weekend. Because of the huge support from international listeners and Indie artists, the pull towards Indie Blues and its many associated genres, has convinced Pete to move The BLENZ into a mainstream Indie radio station that will now move away from pop.

It all started 2 years ago when New Zealand music lover, Wayne Blackwell, decided to contact local radio stations there...

Elwood's BluesMobile
Aug 23-24 Radio Show: BOOKER T

Booker T. Jones is a nice fellow, and one of the giants of popular music. He began as a teenager and helped shape the sound of Stax Records. Not content with being a mover and shaker in the golden age of R&B, Booker T. went on to become a solo artist, songwriter, producer, and legend. Still bringing us great music here in the 21st Century.

The great Booker T. Next time in the Bluesmobile.
