TABLE  OF  CONTENTS
Greetings from your E-Editor...
Is it getting hot in here or is that you?
Oh my gosh, I just read that October is "Sarcastic Month." Wow, either someone who can't take a jab or someone who likes to tease made that one up. This particular week is also "Fire Prevention Week," thanks to Mrs. O'Leary and her touchy cow on a fateful October 8th night in Chicago, 1871. Moral of the story, milk the cow in the daylight! (oh, was that sarcastic?). Seriously, fire prevention is nothing to joke about. This is a good week to practice a fire drill, especially when things are getting too hot to handle or you intend to warm yourself by the devil's fire (oh, there I go again).

"I don't want to be a party of one. Tonight I want your fire to keep me warm" Soul of John Black "Fire Blues"

"I was burned once in 1944, but woman I ain't gonna let that happen no more. I'm a burnt child, and I'm afraid of fire." Sonny Terry "Burnt Child"

Do have a wonderful week. Clarksdale, Mississippi and Helena, Arkansas are burning it up with tons of blues-to-do's now through the weekend, as reported by BFG sales director Cheryl and her hubby Tom, who are there. Festivals will also be smokin' in Daytona, Florida and Louisville, Kentucky. Come on baby light my fire!

Upcoming Birthdays of note: Oct 9 O.V. Wright (1939), Oct 10 "Mississippi" Joe Callicott (1900), Cyril Neville (1948); Oct 12 Nappy Brown (1929), Sam Moore (1935), Barbara Blue; Oct 13 Dorothy Moore (1946); Oct 14 Son Thomas (1926), Kenny Neal (1957), Oct 15 Victoria Spivey (1906), Robert Ward (1938), Oct 16 Sugarpie DeSanto (1935), Big Joe Williams (1903), Oct 18 Chuck Berry (1926) and Jessie Mae Hemphill (1923)

CD & DVD Releases
Deanna Bogart :: JUST A WISH AWAY
Deanna Bogart, the award-winning, multi-instrumentalist known for her vast musical range, broadens her horizons even more on Just A Wish Away.

Her newest Blind Pig Records release finds Deanna collaborating with a new cast of superlative musicians in territory that is at once unfamiliar and intriguing, intimate and provocative. She invites us on her own personal and musical transitional journey that's taken her in a single year from the Chesapeake Bay to Nashville, and from the high desert of Southern California to deep in the Louisiana bayou, where this CD was recorded.

On Just A Wish Away… this immeasurably talented pianist, saxophonist, singer, composer, and bandleader immerses us in her genre-free musical palette with the added colors of trombones, pedal steels and the rhythms of New Orleans

Dave Specter :: MESSAGE IN BLUE
"Dave Specter's 10th album, Message in Blue, is a soulful and compelling blend of Specter's original instrumentals along with powerful blues/R&B vocals. Soul legend Otis Clay makes his Delmark debut as special guest on three songs including a re-make of the classic "Got To Find A Way" with Willie Henderson and the Chicago Horns, The Falcons' "I Found A Love" (complete with Specter nod to Robert Ward playing through a Magnatone amplifier) and a tribute to the late Bobby "Blue" Bland, "This Time I'm Gone For Good". Brother John Kattke is on keyboards and vocals while harp ace Bob Corritore guests on two Specter originals...."
