Greetings from your E-Editor...
Smokin' blues is good for your health...

Got butt? Well, you can try to lose it today, November 20, during Great American Smokeout Day. This is a day to access the health (and financial) benefits of a smoke-free life and attempt to lose your butts for good! The American Cancer Society encourages all smokers to give up the "butt" on this day. Join millions of other Americans and take a big step to a happier, healthier, longer life.

I'm not preaching, just pointing out the obvious. I hope you smokers can get your butts in gear! I personally would want to live a happier, healthier, longer life so I can keep my butt moving to some smokin' blues.

Upcoming Birthdays of note: Nov 20 Duane Allman (1946); Nov 21 Dr. John (1940); Nov 22 Angela Strehli (1945); Nov 23 R.L. Burnside (1926); Nov 24 Donald "Duck" Dunn (1941); Nov 25 Eddie Boyd (1914), Jimmy Johnson (1928); Nov 26 Tina Turner (1939); Nov 27 Jimi Hendrix (1942); Nov 29 John Mayall (1933).

Missy Andersen :: IN THE MOMENT
If a voice as rich, supple and vibrant as Missy Andersen’s could come out of a bottle – not that it hasn’t been tried – every blues singer would be dripping deep soul. Born in Detroit and living in San Diego by way of Queens, New York, Andersen follows her 2009 self-titled debut with In The Moment, a timeless follow-up of blues going straight to the spirit and body. With her band leader, guitarist, husband Heine Andersen, she has again created a personal soundtrack for good times and the pain and joys of love. Eleven varied tracks include eight originals backed by Marty Dodson (drums), Bill Stuve and Michael McKinnon (bass), Nathan James (guitar), James Harman (harmonica) and... Read more details here

Selwyn Birchwood is ready for his breakout close-up
MIAMI, FL - Up-and-coming young blues guitarist Selwyn Birchwood laughs at the suggestion that he may soon need to start getting regular pedicures. Because, what, you're too cool for that, Selwyn? That's the point: You may get to be too cool not to.
But we digress …

Birchwood, born 29 years ago in Orlando, is the leader of an eponymous group that was named the best band at last year's International Blues Challenge, an influential showcase held annually by the Blues Foundation in Memphis. At the same time, Birchwood won the Albert King Award as the IBC's best guitarist.

The latter honor came with a prize, a Gibson ES-335 guitar, which Birchwood will play at his gig Friday night, November 22 at Railroad Blues in Miami, Florida.
