All levels welcome! Open to 18 students.

A balanced digestive system is vital to good health.  It efficiently delivers nutrients to our blood stream, ensures the proper elimination of waste, and strengthens our immune system.  However, as we all know, rich food, holiday libations, and all those Christmas cookies can take a toll on our digestion.

Fortunately, you can improve your digestion, even if you "overdo" it during the holidays.  Join Letitia for an informative hands-on workshop that offers:

--Practical solutions to offset the effects of holiday eating
--A yoga sequence based on Ayurveda agni, the calm fire of digestion
--Dietary options to decrease inflammation in the body
--Ideas about how food is just one way we feed ourselves

Fabulous New Teachers!
Please welcome two new One Center Yoga teachers, Kris Moon and Gabe Pickard.

Starting on Tuesday, January 6, Kris will take over Danielle's Alignment Level I /II class at 5:30 - 7 pm.

Kris offers a comprehensive yet simple practice, rooted in alignment, breath, and mindfulness.  She believes the benefits of yoga and meditation are available to all, and encourages her students to build a consistent practice in order to integrate these benefits into daily life.  In a kind, patient, personable, and skilled manner, Kris invites students to discover this for themselves.

“I try my best to provide clear instructions, gentle reminders, and a supportive environment. Then I get out of the way, allowing students to have their own experience of yoga. As my teacher, Gabriel Halpern likes to say, ‘Research starts with me-search.’”

Kris has been a dedicated student of yoga since 2007 and a certified teacher since 2011.  In India, she immersed herself in yoga and Ayurveda, Vipassana, and Zen meditation. She balances her training in the East with continued study in the West.  Kris completed Trauma-Sensitive Yoga training with Dave Emerson and Jenn Turner.  As apprentice to Gabriel Halpern, she trained in Iyengar-based asana, pranayama, and yoga therapeutics.  She deepened her understanding of meditation through Jon Kabat-Zinn's Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction program. What she offers as a teacher continues to evolve through advanced trainings and personal practice.

Named Jeong Hwa Moon by her Korean birth parents and Kristin Marie Krupa by her Polish-American adoptive parents, it is no surprise Kris likes cabbage! She also enjoys experimenting with words, learning from nature, and watching this wild and precious life unfold with her partner Paul. Kris would love to meet you, so please consider joining her for a shared practice, or reaching out to her at practicewithkris.com.

Starting on Wednesday, January 7, Gabe will teach an Iyengar Yoga Level I/II class at 3:45 - 5:15 pm.

Gabe Pickard-KarnowskI, an Iyengar Certified Instructor, draws on her training both as a physical therapy assistant and a professionally trained dancer.  As a dancer, she was often injured, and endured chronic knee, back, and neck pain. She began to take hatha yoga, but did not get any relief from the pain.  When she started taking classes in Iyengar yoga, her physical conditions improved, as did her mental and emotional state.

“I value the howness of Iyengar yoga—that sustained attention to how the poses are done.  The deep excavation, the peeling back of layers, the continual refinement of each asana, the curiosity that drives us to explore even deeper can lead to a profound awareness of ourselves.”

Gabe has been studying Iyengar yoga since 1997 and teaching since 1998.  She holds an Iyengar certification at the Introductory I and II Level, and is working towards the Intermediate Junior I certification level.  She has a sincere and deep respect for her teachers, who include Senior Iyengar teachers John Schumacher, Manuso Manos, Simon Marrocco, Chris Saudek, Gabriella Gubilaro, Swati Chanchani, many of the faculty at the Institute of New York, and other experienced instructors throughout the United States.

She majored in dance at SUNY Purchase in New York and later graduated with a B.A. in Philosophy.  She currently holds an Associates degree as a Physical Therapist Assistant.  She continues to take dance classes because she loves to move!

December Book Club
Our discussion of The Tree of Yoga, by B.K.S. Iyengar continues!  Iyengar explains the beauty and benefits of the eight limbs of yoga in all stages of life. Using the metaphor of a tree with many limbs, he explores how yoga can enrich family life, love and sexuality, health, our role in society, and even how we face old age and death.  Based on lectures and discussions with his students, the book reads like a lively visit with B.K.S. himself.

Please join us on Sunday, December 21, at 5:45 pm, to discuss this remarkable book, written by a most remarkable man!
