Blues help for the disenfranchised
Michele Lundeen
The holidays are a time for giving. I'm sure many of us dropped money and/or food into a bucket this season as a heartfelt gesture to help those in need. Now that the holidays are over, we need to remember that there are still plenty of disenfranchised people that are hungry, let alone homeless. Please watch our Video of the Week, “Something Ain’t Right,” by JP Soars featuring a song off his new CD, Full Moon Night in Memphis. “This song is really special to me and is about a very relevant issue in everyone's city,” say JP. “We hope that we can bring some light to the homelessness issues everywhere. We could use all your help here to help us spread the word by sharing the video.” ...  Please click here to read more and find several wonderful entities that seek to help the hungry and homeless.

Here's to a promising year for us all!
Your ever-grateful-editor,

Note: Starting Jan 1, 2015, my e-greeting will be a first-Thursday-of-the-month feature about blues-related community issues and events. Birthdays now appear under "Intros and Outros..."

Tas Cru :: YOU KEEP THE MONEY
You Keep the Money - Brand New Year, Brand New Album, Great New Vibe!

A would-be bluesman: “You know, I should get paid.”
Tas Cru: “Yes son, you should. Welcome to the blues.”

This is an actual exchange between Tas and a young man (grandson of Delta bluesman, T-Model Ford) that took place after the kid had jumped on stage with his tambourine. You Keep the Money, is dedicated to every bluesman and woman who has learned the hard truth that making honey doesn’t always make you money.

This latest album by acclaimed singer-songwriter, Tas Cru is without question a portrait of this artist at his peak Read more details here...

Buddy Guy Honored by National Guitar Museum
The National GUITAR Museum announced that Buddy Guy, the pioneering electric blues guitarist who influenced a generation of rock guitarists, is the recipient of its “Lifetime Achievement” Award for 2014.

Buddy is the fifth recipient of the award, following David “Honeyboy” Edwards in 2010, Roger McGuinn of The Byrds in 2011, B.B. King in 2012, and “James Bond" guitarist Vic Flick in 2013.

Guy's work spans more than a half century of electric music, beginning with his arrival on the Chicago blues scene in 1957. “Buddy Guy is the most important link between blues guitar and rock and roll,” says HP Newquist, the executive director of The National GUITAR Museum.

"Blast from The Past" series shares Freddie King
By Erik Otis - SCV is very close to our 500th article in the vintage music “Blast From The Past” series and we have some very special items planned for the continuation into one of our strongest areas on the website. To break in volume 499, we have selected a track off the debut long player from blues icon Freddie King, titled “Lonesome Whistle Blues”. Released in 1961 on Freddy King Sings, the track is filled with an uplifting and raw spirit, containing a mid-tempo rhythm section that bounces with life from start to finish. Freddie King lays down passionate guitar run after run over soul-drenched vocal lines and rolling piano licks. It’s a classic blues piece that has the addition of back-up vocals for an even more dynamic affect then you normally get with blues music of this era. Read entire article here
