James Burton, Albert Lee, Amos Garrett and David Wilcox :: GUITAR HEROES
Guitar Heroes, a very special live recording on Stony Plain Records, teams acclaimed guitar masters James Burton, Albert Lee, Amos Garrett and David Wilcox for what promises to be one of the most heralded albums of the year.
These four Telecaster Masters shake up the rock and roll universe on this historic release, recorded during a one-time special performance at the Vancouver Island (Canada) MusicFest on July 12, 2013. Rooted in blues and rockabilly influences, each of the four legends have shaped and changed the sound of popular music since the mid-1950s. The musicianship, good taste, camaraderie and energized interplay showcased on stage that night made guitar history, now preserved on recordings for everyone to experience. As Albert Lee, himself, proclaimed that night, “Welcome to my dreams here!”

Josh Garrett :: HONEY FOR MY QUEEN
Josh Garrett is a songwriter, singer and guitar player from New Roads, Louisiana with a unique brand of Louisiana roots and soul. Garrett will tell you that his newest release, Honey for My Queen, "is about leaving... no..., it's about coming home." In reality it's a little bit of both. The album has a live feel that takes you on a musical journey through some of Josh's greatest loves: his guitar, touring the country, his home state of Louisiana, and his family. In typical Josh Garrett fashion, the groove is what captures you right from the start as you travel with him to find the balance between his love of the road and his love of home.

Blues legend Elvin Bishop and headliner of the Greeley Blues Jam [June 13] dropped out of college to get a soul education
Note: The Greeley Blues Jam will be held June 12-13 in Greeley, Colorado
GREELEY, CO - Long before Elvin Bishop won prestigious music awards and performed in sold-out venues around the country, his parents told him dropping out and becoming a blues musician was a bad idea.

Bishop, 72, is returning to play the Greeley Blues Jam for the second time on Saturday. He released 20 studio albums over five decades. Just this year he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as an original member of the Paul Butterfield Blues Band. His most recent album, “Can’t Even Do Wrong Right,” was nominated for six Blues Music Awards, winning both Album of the Year and Song of the Year.

SC Blues Artist Drink Small a 2015 National Heritage Fellow, Nation's highest Folk Arts Honor
Index/Journal - With a quick wit and a gift for rhyme, South Carolina blues artist Drink Small said his music "tells people how to live better and longer." Also known as the "Blues Doctor," Small is among honorees receiving the 2015 National Endowment for the Arts National Heritage Fellowship, the nation's highest honor in folk and traditional arts. The National Heritage Fellows will be honored at an awards ceremony and free concert in Washington on Oct. 1-2, 2015.
"The NEA," Small said, during a telephone interview with the Index-Journal, "is the top of the line. I'm super honored. This is big."

"I talk a lot of trash you, know," Small said. "But, there have been people listening to me for 50 years. I make them laugh and I make them dance.

T-Bone Walker: More Than Three Damn Chords
AmericanSongwriter - There’s little doubt that your basic blues fan looks to the music for its raw, rough-hewed quality. Lyrically, it should shout, growl or moan about the lack of money when the rent is due, a wicked need for whiskey when your woman has made herself abundantly absent, or loneliness so bad there’s no real word for it. The same goes for the music. It should be three chords, a few fancy licks, no unnecessary decorations. It should be the aural equivalent of a Hemingway short story.

T-Bone Walker thought those things needed changing.

Bringing with him the single-string lead playing and voicings of jazz guitarists like Charlie Christian, Walker is the cat who brought sophistication to the blues, without sacrificing its basic story: my money’s gone, my girl’s gone, my hope’s gone. Often in the same song.

Who Do You Love: The bluesy saga of the “other” Chess Records biopic
TheExaminer - While biopics have long been a staple of Hollywood, the rate of their creation seems to have accelerated in recent decades. In particular, there has been a strong emphasis on bringing to the big screen the life stories of some of the 20th century’s most important musical performers. The results have been inconsistent at best, with some worthy efforts (“Ray,” “Get On Up,” Walk the Line”) mixed in amid plenty of dogs (“The Doors,” “Great Balls of Fire,” “Beyond the Sea”). Hollywood keeps churning them out, however, with the critically acclaimed Brian Wilson biopic “Love and Mercy” the current example.

One of my favorites is “Cadillac Records,” the lively 2008 telling of the genesis of Chess Records and its role in the creation of electric blues and early rock ‘n’ roll.
