Blues News You Can Use!
Up Above My Head
Today is a big day for Blues in the Schools so I was up "late" last night prepping this newsletter so I can hit send before I head out the door this morning at 7am to start setting up for our morning program at Woodland Junior High (read more below.) "Up above my head" is the theme for this year's program....a chance to reach and teach about the music and the opportunity blues music gives people to
about important aspects of their lives.
By the time Friday is over Ozark Blues Society will have had the honor of bringing blues history and music to well over 600 seventh grade students in Fayetteville Public Schools.  As the Blues Education Coordinator and part-time presenter I SO appreciate this opportunity to reach out and connect with today's young people
and offer them the opportunity to learn more about the how's and why's that
came together to form this amazing true American art form...the Blues.

And as always, please remember I need artists and readers to help me get linked up to events you have or know about, especially if the events aren't posted to the local calendars. Send any
ideas or comments to me anytime at:

TODAY!

Blues in the Schools!
As you read this week's early edition the Ozark Blues Society team is already out in Fayetteville bringing blues history to the 7th grade students in Fayetteville Public Schools!  Our morning program at Woodland Junior High for the whole 7th grade is first period of the school day and will perhaps be over before many of you start the day. This group of 300+ students will be our LARGEST one time audience ever! We are also excited to share that we are partnering with the Woodland 7th Grade Girls Choir who will come out in their "large" numbers (approximately 100 girls) to join Fayetteville's own Blues and Gospel Diva, Ms Ocie Fisher, as her
gospel choir as we learn about the gospel roots of the blues. Kudos go out to Ocie Fisher and Jimmy Wayne Garrett for coming out earlier this week to meet with the students at Woodland to help them learn the song.
Once we finish at Woodland it's off for an afternoon of Blues in the Schools at Ramay Junior High where we will be presenting our program twice back to back for the 7th grade class. It looks like we will have some of the 7th grade girls choir at Ramay helping us as well. A big thanks to choir directors Katy Housh at Woodland and Chris Michaels at Ramay for their willingness to be a part of this program.

We are excited to be able to share a powerful call and response song originated by Arkansas's own Sister Rosetta Tharpe. For a very cool video that we are using as inspiration for our performance, go  HERE

Yes, it's going to be a BIG day!
Seeking Newsletter Submissions
We are looking for any of our readers who want to get involved and share their own love of the blues! It would be wonderful to have more pieces like we have enjoyed
in the past submitted by our readers.
The topics are nearly endless....just anything that is about the blues.  Have
you been to a spectacular event or show you could tell us about? Are you excited about some aspect of blues history you could share? Or perhaps you are a blues musician and would like to share with the non-musician public about some aspect of your craft?  The sky is pretty much the limit.  We always try to publish articles in full, but of course Ozark Blues Society reserves the right to edit or reject any piece submitted for publication. Authors are always notified before publication and if editing is required.
