Blues News You Can Use!
 Another One From The Road..
Last week I talked a bit about hot...well this week I am sending this newsletter from the road and let me tell you the heat we get in NWA is just "practice!"  When my husband and I walked out the door of our hotel on Decatur street in the New Orleans French Quarter Wednesday morning it was already 90+ degrees with a "feels like" temperature of 107 degrees!  The early afternoon rains helped a lot by dropping the temperature back into the 80's.  Makes it bearable to get out and wander about while soaking in the sights and sounds of the rich history of this amazing city. Music, art, and food are everywhere! This is my first visit in many, many years and it is wonderful to see the area teeming with people. Of course there continue to be a group of needy people on the streets here, but overall the vibe feels positive and that makes me happy!

As always let me toss out my usual reminder. I harvest my performance information from the various local and regional publications and websites. If I am missing YOUR information...or that of your favorite band of venue, you need to email me! I want this newsletter to offer you the information you, the reader, finds helpful. Also please send any ideas or comments to me anytime at:

Harmonica House Party
July 21st in Tulsa
Tulsa harmonica player and OBS supporter David Berntson shared the following event.  Sounds awesome!

C’mon over for a big musical House Party with harmonica master Ronnie Shellist, along with special guests Joe Schecke and Bobby “Greenshoes” Parker on guitars.  Ronnie is currently touring the US and is making a special stop in T-Town.  Ronnie’s soulful and swinging approach to harmonica is guaranteed to move you and groove you.  Check out Ronnie’s webpage to see his impressive resume and then come join us on Thursday for a show that promises to be a special night of Blues.  http://www.ronnieshellist.com/

Also, ATTENTION HARMONICA STUDENTS and anyone who wants to learn more about harmonica:  Ronnie will be offering individual lessons on Wednesday and Thursday for all levels of playing, from beginner to advanced.  This is a great opportunity to have one-on-one instruction from one of the best harmonica instructors in the country.  To arrange a time, email Ronnie at ronnieshellist@gmail.com, or phone David at 918-381-8999 and I’ll help schedule it.

It’s potluck before the show, and be sure to bring your favorite beverage.  Also bring a lawn chair.  In case of rain or excessive heat, we’ll move inside.

Hope to see you next Thursday night.

2016 Ozark Blues Society Blues Challenge
As the summer kicks off be assured the Ozark Blues Society Board kicks into gear working behind the scenes to start preparing for our annual fall event, the Ozark Blues Society Blues Challenge. With the date locked down for
October 19, 2016
Georges Majestic Lounge
look for an announcement soon more details including how to enter.
Just in case we have any new readers unsure as to the purpose of this event, it is the competition that is used to select the band and solo/duo acts we will send to Memphis for the International Blues Challenge.  Bands and solo/duo acts who desire to compete in Memphis must win in a local competition sponsored by a blues society that is an affiliate of the Blues Foundation. Each affiliated society is allowed to send one band, one solo or duo, and one youth act.

Seeking Reporter
Lately I have been thinking it would be nice to have a regular news item highlighting local musicians. Please let me know if you would be interested in gathering
information for me to help get
such a column started. A group of questions would be provided so that interviews cover the same information. Reporters will get credited when published. Please email me at smccann7@sbcglobal.net for more information. This would be a great way to see your favorite band/musician get the credit they deserve!

You have to open your mind. I like the ability to express myself in a deep way. It's the closest music to our humanity - it's like a folk music that rises up out of a culture.
