Triumphant Steel Pulse’s David Hinds roars like a lion
rfgDavid “Dread” Hinds has a Steel Pulse.
 
The frontman and founding member of the enduring Birmingham, England, reggae band was an irie bundle of energy Wednesday night when Steel Pulse delivered 90 minutes of social commentary in song to a record crowd of 820 in Crystal Bay Casino’s newly renovated Crown Room.
 
Roaring louder than a reggae lion, fans were all about it, providing backing vocals to familar songs. Concertgoers ranged from twentysomethings to seasoned seniors who have imbibed in the band’s vibes for 35-plus years. The musicians drew from their entire catalogue, delivering an 11-song, hour-long first set and a four-song encore.

Coming from a scintillating performance at the recently concluded Reggae Sumfest in Montego Bay, the young veteran, who created history by closing the festival two consecutive years – 2013 and 2014 – is just as focused now as when he started his impressive  journey close to a decade ago.
The Rastafarian reggae-dancehall artiste admits that this year’s Reggae Sumfest was very special to him, one reason being that for the first time in three years he performed during prime time to a crowd that was already wholly energized and super ready for his commanding performance.

Lake Tahoe, NV – The popular summer music event, Lake Tahoe Reggae Festival, has officially announced the line-up for their annual gathering of Reggae music lovers in one of the most beautiful places on the planet: Lake Tahoe.   Pepper, Kymani Marley, Israel Vibration & Roots Radics, Don Carlos, Mike Love, Squarefield Massive, DJs Dinga and Casa Rasta.
 
Once again, the Hard Rock Hotel/Casino on the South Shore of Lake Tahoe will host the event on Saturday, August 20, 2016, in the Hard Rock Outdoor Arena. Gates open at 4pm; show ends 10:30pm.
 
Save $15 dollars now, and snag your General Admission Early-Bird tickets available in limited quantities for only $40.00.  Once Early-Bird tickets are sold-out, tickets will be $55.00. A limited number of VIP tickets are available at $100, which include special stage-front viewing area, private, upgraded restrooms, and private bars.  In an effort to encourage families to attend this year’s Lake Tahoe Reggae Festival, all kids 12 and under will be just $10.00, and all children 6 and under will be FREE.  These special kids’ tickets can be picked up at the Box Office only.  Kids must be present with adult ticket holders to qualify for these special tickets. 
 
The final touches are being put on a massive artist line-up that will be announced shortly.  Past headliners at Lake Tahoe Reggae Festival events have included Rebelution, Iration, Matisyahu, Don Carlos, The Green, Jimmy Cliff, Stick Figure, Katchafire, Trevor Hall, The Expendables, and others. 
 
New for 2016 is a local artist stage, a grass/sod chill-out field, beautiful shade structures and sails, as well as a vendor village, artist paint wall, and great Food & Beverage offerings.

Whether you are a first time attendee or a seasoned Reggae veteran, the 2016 edition of Reggae On The River will feature many exciting new features. With venue improvements like a new 780,000+ gallon rainwater catchment pond that will allow sufficient water for the management of the site- expect a cooler, irrigated, and more dust-free environment this year- with sufficient excess in the pond to recharge the aquifer after the event, offsetting the festival’s water usage and making ROTR the world’s first “water-neutral” event! You can also expect greener initiatives within the show- including a revamped recycling program- and the elimination of plastic beer cups in the concert bowl thanks to a new steel pint program offered in tandem with the Eel River Clean Up Project and Steely’s. On the entertainment end of the spectrum, get ready for more cool lighting and ambiance in the campground/ concert bowl- and expanded daytime offerings at the Center and South Beach common areas- including yoga, massage, and health/ wellness offerings, plus food booths, DJs, a bar, and more. And for those of you looking to up the comfort level on your festival camping accommodations- go big with the Ambassador Pass, pick up an RV pass, or make a reservation in our new Premier Campground- which offers flat, grassy, and mixed shade camping with direct access to the concert bowl. 1965: DJ Prezident Brown (Fitz Albert Cotterell) is born in Colonel Ridge, Clarendon, Jamaica. (some say b. July 26)
 
1998: Bob Marley & The Wailers' video "Time Will Tell" [Polygram Music Video] is certified Gold by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America).
 
1999: Beenie Man and three other members of Shocking Vibes Production Ltd. (Ralston McKenzie, Raymond Ledgister and Andrew Thomas) touring the U.S. are arrested and chaged with ganja possession in Virginia Beach, Virginia, United States.
 
1999: (some say July 27th or 29th) Simon 'Mahlathini' Nkabinde, lead singer of mbaquanga (Zulu pop music) group Mahlathini & the Mahotella Queens, passes on in Vosloorus, South Africa, after a long illness with diabetes. Age 61. (b. 1938, Newcastle)
