"Pickin' Post" radio show host Mike Shirkey who will be hosting shared this about Roy Book Binder:
"As a young blues player starting out, Roy was a driver for Rev. Gary Davis. They became great friends and Roy learned much from him. Legendary blues piano man, Pinky Anderson, also helped a young Bookbinder play the blues."

James Hippa of "The Hip Blurb" says, "Roy has the goods: the original, the bare-knuckle, the low-down . . .. He has the stories, the licks, and the mystery of timeless music in his fingers...He plays and he entertains, feeding us music and stories, and the evening is a celebration for us all. We’re privileged to have Roy here to preserve–and extend—the tradition of great American blues music."
Additional information can be found on Roy's website at: http://www.roybookbinder.com/

You have to open your mind. I like the ability to express myself in a deep way. It's the closest music to our humanity - it's like a folk music that rises up out of a culture.

This Week's Quote

“I'm a bluesman moving through a blues-soaked America, a blues-soaked world, a planet where catastrophe and celebration- joy and pain sit side by side. The blues started off in some field, some plantation, in some mind, in some imagination, in some heart. The blues blew over to the next plantation, and then the next state. The blues went south to north, got electrified and even sanctified. The blues got mixed up with jazz and gospel and rock and roll.”

Cornel West
