"Shaman's Bowl" * a closer look

Last year I began noticing the emergence of bowl imagery in my paintings. "Grandmother's Gifts",and "BearClaw Blessings" were amoung the first paintings in which I was drawn to the bowl. Something about the form of the bowl felt powerful, feminine and significant to me. It is like a womb, a container for creation and alchemy. I was inspired to explore this more and my journey with "Shaman's Bowl" began.

"Shaman's Bowl" consists of 3 paintings. "Possibilities", " As dreams take flight" and "Sacred ground is found". As I painted this series, I had a vision of a medicine woman sitting up in the mountains. She was perhaps on a vision quest, working with a great magical healing alchemy. This was her personal bowl that she used for her medicine work.

The first painting, "POSSIBILITIES", explores the time of the void. The void is the place of 'not knowing'. It is common to feel fearful of and uncomfortable in this place until we learn to let go of control, have faith and release into the space of unknowing. What we learn is that the void is actually a very positive powerful place. It is a place where bountiful possibilities exist. It is a time when we can go within ourselves, seek our truth and open to new ideas, dreams and situations. Within the unformed void, lives vast creative potential.

The second painting in the series is "AS DREAMS TAKE FLIGHT". The time in the void of "Possibilities", has brought new ideas, inspirations and dreams. There is more clarity now, more light, and these dreams and intentions are sent forth into the world. They are released with faith like sparkling wishes to the Divine.

"SACRED GROUND IS FOUND" (pictured above) is the final painting of the series. Having been through the void of unknowing, and sending out our wishes and dreams into the world, full light is shining upon us now and we have manifestation. Our dreams have taken physical form. There is illumination and grounding. The bowl is comfortable within the earth, caressed by the surrounding grasses and no longer empty but now filled. There is a sense fullness and arriving home into this present moment.

Life has an innate rhythm, a cycle from void to illumination, death to rebirth, inner to outer. "Shaman's Bowl" is about that rhythm. Awareness of this cycle can be comforting and encouraging. I hope that whatever phase you are in, you will find inspiration in knowing that things are always flowing towards new positive creation.
Because these paintings tell a story, I am only selling the original paintings together as a group. However individual prints are available in a variety of sizes.
