Gentleman Films "Different Places" Video in Los Angeles
Cologne, Germany-based reggae artist, Gentleman recently came to Los Angeles to film the video for the single "Different Places" a conceptual video centered around the song's message of diversity and cultural understanding. Directed by esteemed reggae video director, Ras Kassa whose video credits include Damian Marley's "Welcome To Jamrock", Lady Saw's "Infertility", and Richie Spice's "Youth So Cold," the"Different Places" video is now edited and available to view on Gentleman's My Space page: myspace.com/gentlemanjourneytojah.
The song's refrain: "It's not about class, color or races, let's get together and see different places" is propelled by images of a mohawk haired-woman, an Orthodox Jewish man, along with African, and Asian people whose singing faces are imposed on Gentleman's dancing torso.
Los Angeles-based players Adam Arredondo, Spacey, Dr. Scorp (pictured on drums), Cedric (R) (pictured here with Ras Kassa (L) and Shawn (on bass) were hired to act as the musicians performing the Firehouse crew-crafted rhythm track. Another of the video's scenes depicted here, features Gentleman singing with the band in front of a multi-flag backdrop.

Malijah: Jamaica's Gideon Soldier
Malijah's latest single, called "No Combo" (Breakfast in Bed) is getting heavy radio rotation in Jamaica and Europe.
A brilliant video for the song can be seen on Jamaica TV stations: Juice, Hype and RETV. If you don't get any of these stations, you can also watch on Malijah's myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/malijahsingsong
This week the song was voted #2 on RETV Top 10 video countdown show- based on viewers’ votes. Malijah is happy that the fans are responding so well to his meaningful, yet playful song.
"The song is more than just a single that promotes healthy eating, it is funny but serious and urges you to take a look at your lifestyle, and make the necessary changes so you can have a healthier, more upful life, there is a message beneath it all, you have to set your thing right, no one else can do it for you," Malijah explained.
The song features veteran musicians including: Sly Dunbar (drums), Mikey Chung (bass), and Dean Fraser (horns). Singer Zenesha 'Zenny' Riley's sexy vocals are a nice compliment to the package. Zenny is a newcomer to the music business but she has previously made a name for herself as a runway model in Spain, Germany and France.
The video was produced by Nando Garcia who is originally from Spain, but now resides in Portland Jamaica. Mr. Garcia is focusing all of his energies on Malijah these days, as he is also the executive producer of the full length album "Freedom Streets" which will be released later this year.
"Malijah is a true gideon soldier, winning the battle as he fights forwhat's right. I have full confidence in his abilities as a singer, songwriter, musician and entertainer", Nando also explained that he'd be taking Malijah to Spain next week to do some promotion of the video there.

Correction
|
In the last e-guide we published a piece on Irie Love. In this piece we noted that she was going to be in Jamaica to film a video for the song Dennis Brown song "Revolution." This song is a combination with the artist E-Dee whose name was misspelled. Our apologies for this error.

HENRY TURNER JR. & FLAVOR, RELEASE LOUSIANA FUNK BUFFET
|
Hit City Records is pleased to announce the release of Henry Turner Jr. & Flavor’s - LOUISIANA FUNK BUFFET.
The Louisiana Reggae/Funk band’s 4th CD feature tracks are: WET and UGLY MAN, LOOK MY WAY and GONNA BE ALRIGHT. UGLY MAN and I’M SO HOT are tongue-in-cheek looks at the world from a man’s point of view, GONNA BE ALRIGHT is an anthem to overcoming hard times. WET and SEX CRAZED MANIAC, secretly reflect how women relate to their men, with LIL’BOYFRIEND and LOOK MY WAY, focusing on torment and jealousy.
LOUISIANA FUNK BUFFET also includes two new mixes of the bands’ single POLITRICKS. Released last year, the song explores the living conditions of the survivors of Hurricanes Rita and Katrina, based on how the local, state and federal governments’ in-fighting hindered recovery efforts.
As lead vocalist and guitarist Turner comments, “When I founded the band in 1992, I wanted to create a new type of musical genre, one that mixed contemporary and ethnic rhythms with elements of R&B, reggae and blues, with some jazz chording.” “With the release of LOUISIANA FUNK BUFFET,” he continues, “I think this goal has been accomplished, and along the way we managed to create some new fun music as we get back into our upbeat Louisiana party groove.”
Veteran R&B drummer Ronnie Houston has been with the band since its inception. He is known for his intricate and syncopated drumming style, as well as singing backup vocals. For this CD he wrote and sings the autobiographical lyrics on SOLID, a song about his evolution from being an abandoned baby to becoming a highly recognized and respected musician.
Bassist and vocalist, Irie Hip joined the band last year. The urban artist has thrilled fans in the San Francisco Bay Area, Louisiana, Europe, Canada and Japan. He considers his goal with the group to be…“adding new flavors and textures to the mix of music.”
Guest artists on LOUISIANA FUNK BUFFET include Jack Kelly and Cindy Cornelius on percussion and backup vocals on I’M SO HOT, and Cindy Cornelius on backup vocals for UGLY MAN.
LOUISIANA FUNK BUFFET was released on April 23, and the group debuted their new release at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, playing on the Lagniappe Stage, on April 27. The band will also be featured at the same festival on May 4 and 5, playing at the Music Tent on Claiborne Avenue produced by the Cutting Edge Music Business Institute. Henry Turner Jr. & Flavor are also slated to appear at the Memorial Day Weekend festival Reggae On The Mississippi River in Vidalia, Louisiana. Mr. Turner is also a producer of this event (see festival listing below.) Henry Turner, Jr. & Flavor’s music has been described as … “a sure crowd pleaser” and to that end, the band tours extensively in support of theirrecent singles GIVE ME LOVE, recorded live at Café Negril in New Orleans, MERRY CHRISTMAS and I LIKE TO SMOKE, SMOKE SMOKE (but I don’t smoke dope).
Past single hits include FAT BABY, LIMBO, LOUISIANA FUNK, PRAISING JAH and FAMILY. Previous CD’s are WILL WORK FOR FOOD AND MONEY, FACING THE MILLENNIUM and LOUISIANA GUMBO COMBO.

A Note from the Festival Organizers:
Over the past thirteen years we have endeavored to build a community where Conscious music, Roots music, and World music are embraced. Where bringing diverse people from many lands together in celebration yields more than just the sum of each individual present, but something much grander. At SNWMF people experience a unique sense of unity and belonging, a semi-utopian moment in time where love, generosity, joy and innocence can be reclaimed. We believe that music has the power to move mountains and change paradigms, and the phenomenal artists who have graced SNWMF stages over the past decade+ have imparted an overwhelmingly positive force.
Let us gather once again at the Summer Solstice to dance, drum and chant for peace. In these troubled times, we can only follow our hearts. And our hearts tell us that the people need to come together, now more than ever.
The Sierra Nevada World Music Festival is dedicated to nurturing a world family, peacefully united in celebration of the universal spirit of music. Come celebrate with us!
