WMM AT THE TORONTO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

Toronto is buzzing with excitement as the start of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2007 draws near, and WMM congratulates filmmakers Ellen Spiro, Alanis Obomsawin, Sabiha Sumar, and Claudia Morgado Escanilla for the inclusion of their films in this year's festival.

In the Documentary section "Real to Reel,"Dinner with the President: A Nation's Journey by Sabiha Sumar (FOR A PLACE UNDER THE HEAVENS, DON'T ASK WHY, GIRLS AROUND THE WORLD) screens as part of the "Why Democracy?" series, and Ellen Spiro (TROOP 1500, DIANA'S HAIR EGO) joins up with Phil Donahue on the film Body of War.

Canadian filmmakers Alanis Obomsawin (MOTHER OF MANY CHILDREN, MY NAME IS KAHENTIIOSTA) and Claudia Morgado Escanilla (SABOR A MI, UNBOUND) have their films Gene Boy Came Home and No Bikini, respectively, screening in the Short Cuts Canada section.

WMM is proud to announce the highly anticipated national broadcast premiere of A WOMAN AMONG WARLORDS, based on the award winning film ENEMIES OF HAPPINESS, on the PBS series WIDE ANGLE, September 11 at 9 PM on most PBS stations (check local listings).

Winner of a Special Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival as well as numerous other awards, SENORITA EXTRAVIADA, by Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Lourdes Portillo, is a haunting investigation of the more than 300 women who have disappeared from the streets of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico since 1994. This important film airs on the History Channel en Espanol on September 16 at 8 PM EST (check local listings).

Discounted Admission to IFP Filmmaker Conference!
WMM filmmakers and friends receive a 25% discount for tickets to the IFP Filmmaker Conference, an event coinciding with the IFP Market. The Conference features 45 panel discussions and workshops and will be attended by more than 2000 filmmakers and notable industry reps from the U.S. and abroad. Tickets and info.

NYSCA RECOGNIZES FILMMAKERS FROM PRODUCTION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

Seven filmmakers in WMM's Production Assistance Program recently received Electronic Media & Film Individual Artist grants from the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA), ranging from $8,000 to $20,000.

GOD SLEEPS IN RWANDA NOMINATED FOR EMMY AWARD

GOD SLEEPS IN RWANDA has received an Emmy nomination for BEST DOCUMENTARY. Produced and directed by Kimberlee Acquaro and Stacy Sherman, this powerful film was broadcast on HBO Cinemax's acclaimed Reel Life Series and was also an Academy Award nominee for Best Documentary Short. News and Documentary Emmy Awards winners will be announced at a ceremony on September 24 in New York City.
