THE GRACE LEE PROJECT: 2008 Selected DVD for Young Adults
image

This year, the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) chose THE GRACE LEE PROJECT as one of eight Selected DVD for Young Adults. The list recognizes productions for technical merit, content and use with, and interest to, young adults ages 12-18.

THE GRACE LEE PROJECT pursues the moving target of Asian-American female identity with a clever, highly unscientific investigation of Grace Lees who break the mold. With wit and charm, this film challenges the cultural investments made in the idea of Grace Lee, all the while sending her a love letter. Learn more and order this film.

For the first time, several films by Jane Campion and Ulrike Ottinger are available on DVD. These important classic feminist films are essential viewings for cinema studies courses.

The internationally acclaimed director of THE PIANO, AN ANGEL AT MY TABLE and SWEETIE first displayed her visual flair and dark humor in these award-winning shorts. Newly remastered, THE FILMS OF JANE CAMPION is a compilation DVD of A GIRL'S OWN STORY, PASSIONLESS MOMENTS and PEEL, which won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 1986 and made Campion the first woman to ever win the festival's highest honor. Ulrike Ottinger has been a unique and provocative voice in German cinema since her debut in the early 1970s. Her early narratives, MADAME X: AN ABSOLUTE RULER (1977), and TICKET OF NO RETURN (1979), explore Berlin's many subcultures and diverse populations. Read more and order online.
