The MARCH of the MODERN DAY MUSES

As transcribed by an anal assistant from recorder covered with chocolate fingerprints:

The reason I am speaking in very quiet whisper is because I am embedded within a cluster of Muses at their annual Muse conference. I may have to stop occasionally in order to pay attention, write down an idea, or  doodle with wild abandon as is often instructed at these events, so pardon my pauses if that’s the case. Muses have this gathering the first week in March at Mount Parnassus; it’s called March Muse Madness. It’s a wild brainstorming session: in loud voices they spew out ideas for books, art, photography, tuna casserole, and a new way to package CDs since the current wrapper is causing much mortal upset. [long pause and obnoxiously loud sneeze.] Lots of things are being tossed in the air including but not limited to Styrofoam balls, cherry Jell-O shooters, feathered caps, rainbow-colored hoola hoops, and a white poodle attached to a bunch of blue helium balloons.
I’m not supposed to be here because I’m not really a Muse, at least not according to the Mt. Parnassus Muse Policy Manual, Page 94, Section 4, Paragraph 3:

A Muse is a mythical entity from ancient Greece possessed with the ability to inspire song, art, verse and … spanakopita.  They give the “i”s dots. Yes, the “i’’s of every i-dea . . . they provide inspiration, intuition, innovation, ingenuity, intrigue, interesting, and other applicable “i” words that I may have forgotten like . . . maybe: incredible. They entice possibility.  They tango with the peculiar, dangle with participles, and dare mortals to take that risk and venture into the frontier of creation, expression, and positive change.

So technically I don't meet the parameters of that definition since I'm not always mythical [although my closet has a big myth on the floor], but I was invited because back in 2003 I proposed the controversial Muse upgrade to modernize the Muses and now there’s ten more of them (as outlined in my book). Those new Muses are also present at the convention and they are coming up with additional ways to help mortals be more creative and ways to help mortals create any kind of positive change they want in their lives. They have devised amazing solutions to the perfectionism, procrastination, fears, email and TV watching that usually stand in the way of mortal ingenuity and self-improvement.   Wait, one of them is speaking now. [Muffled cartoon-like talking in background accompanied by hoots, hollers, a little profanity, and an a-Capella rendition of “I Will” by the Beatles.]

Marge, the Muse of Okay-Now-Let’s-Get-Started is speaking – they really love her. She’s talking in a mid-western accent about …um ... getting started in a project and continuing instead of quitting. Wow, what an amazing concept! I’m going to concentrate now and take really good notes. I’ll share these Muse secrets with you on a free call next Thursday, March 13 at 5 pm PDT, 6 MDT, 7 CDT, and 8 CDT. If you're interested, sign-up at this link. Bye now [tape recorder shut-off sound.]

KAIZEN-COACH FROM DOWN-UNDER

Nic Hohn is our first Kaizen-Muse Graduate from Australia. She touched the hearts of her fellow students and is sure to bring joy to those she coaches wherever they are.

What is the creative scene like in Australia?
There seems to be an abundance of creative people and artists everywhere. I have had the pleasure to meet creative people, via the Internet, from one side of Australia to the other, and in between, from capital cities to the outback. Which is fantastic because it makes our culture and communities so much richer.

What was it like taking training that originated in the US?
It felt very progressive and exciting! How wonderful it was to hear those lovely accents and connect with the other amazing women, who where scattered across the US. I felt like I was tapping into the source of Creative information. I researched for quite sometime to see if there was anything similar here, but I kept coming back to KMCC. The 4am rising for some calls was well worth the journey to be the first Kaizen Muse Coach in Australia.

What will you specialize in?
I love to see people shine in their creative endeavours, whether that’s art, cooking, gardening (the list goes on). I’m specializing in Creative Intuition, guiding people to use and listen to their inner voice. And how to work with the Universal Creative energy. I’ve studied Perspective Astrology for the last 2 years, so this combined with KMCC makes for some powerful tools…. dissolving challenges to move forward. Coaching to help fulfill the Creative Purpose.

Best advice:
Recently the best advice I’ve acted on is 5% less perfection. That’s thanks to you Jill! It has been very eye opening. While I was striving it get the ‘project’ just so, I realised I was actually putting so much time and energy searching for that ‘perfect thing’ to get to the perfect outcome. I was self-sabotaging my inspired effort. Now I catch my thoughts and remind myself, just 5% less perfection! It’s freed up more time to create!

Most Favourite Creative Achievement:
Other than my 2 beautiful children, I would say my recent article in Cloth Paper Scissors. It has just been published about my mixed media collage. Something about that American connection just makes my heart flutter. What made it so special was that it was self-directed, outside my comfort zone and about something I love to do.

Prompts to Fuel Your Creativity:
1. Sometimes listening to music can evoke a mood and that mood can gift you with words.
Go to this link and click on the button for Kavin Hoo’s “The Winding Path.” Begin a sentence with: I took the winding path … and see if the music carries you along on that path with words. Try listening to the music first with your eyes closed and your imagination open, and imagine where the path might take you, what you might see, how you might feel, what worlds open to you…. Write without thinking, even if it doesn’t make sense. Don’t worry whether it’s any good or not. If you can’t hear the music through your computer, play music of your own or write sans song.

2. Make an Acronym from MARCH or use each letter of the word to begin a line of poetry
My Acronyms:
Marshmallows Are Really Chewy, Haveone
Make A Really Creative Hamburger

My Poem:
Maybe if I wear only
A tulip I will get his attention, but
Really that's silly.
Clark has a whole garden of tulips.
He won't notice me. Heck.

Or send in Acronyms and Poems for APRIL for the Muse Flash- info@themuseisin.com

From Last Month's Ferris Wheel Prompt, Frances Honich gives us this poem :
You were my Empire State Building,
my Eiffel Tower, my Gateway Arch,
as each September at Guilford Fair
I'd grip the hand rail like glue
as this wonder of a wheel
took me up and down,
looking down on the town,
rising high as the steeple on the church.
