CHEF MAYRA: THE DIRTY DOZEN
|
Have you ever heard of The Dirty Dozen? It's a list of the Top 12 fruits and veggies that are the dirtiest and most pesticide-laden out there.
Here are the non-organic fruits that appear on this Top 12 Dirty Dozen list in the order of nastiness: 1. Peaches 2. Strawberries 3. Apples 4. Nectarines 5. Pears 6. Cherries 7. Raspberries 8. Imported Grapes
The missing four of the Dirty Dozen are the "dirty veggies."
It's OPTIMUM to eat organic vegetables all the time since they're grown in soil which is abundant in nutrients. But let's be real, it's not always easy to find organic veggies, plus it can get expensive.
So to make things easier on you, memorize these Top 4 Veggies you should ALWAYS buy organic due to the amount of pesticides they contain: 1. Celery 2. Spinach 3. Potatoes 4. Bell Peppers
If you can't find these organic, then don't eat them. Plain and simple!
It's extremely important that you write these top pesticide-laden fruits (and veggies) down, memorize them, tattoo them on your body, whatever you have to do to remember to purchase these as organic fruit every time you shop.
But how do you know if they're TRULY organic? Very simply. You know those little stickers that are attached to fruits and veggies? Here's a general rule about the numbers on these stickers: • If it's a four-digit number, that means it's conventionally grown; • If it's a five-digit number beginning with a 9, that means it's organic; If it's a five-digit number beginning with an 8, that means it's genetically modified (GMO).
What if you don't have access to organic fruit where you live? You can buy a fruit/veggie wash like Veggie Wash® - 100% natural, using ingredients from citrus, corn and coconut.
You can also peel the fruit of its skin. The only thing you need to know is that this doesn't remove the pesticides from the INSIDE of your fruit. The fruit did, after all, eat these pesticides and herbicides in order to grow so they've now become a part of the fruit itself. However, washing and/or peeling your fruits will certainly go a long way to removing the harmful substances for you.
There's always the option of organic fruit delivery right to your front door. I highly recommend Diamond Organics. They have nationwide delivery of organic fruits and veggies.
And by all means, check for Farmer's Markets in your area. How can you beat just-picked fruits (and veggies) grown near you. In fact, the conventional fruits/veggies from Farmer's Markets grown by local farmers could very well be of better quality than some organics that are shipped for days to your local grocery store.

PORT ROYAL MUSIC FESTIVAL 2008 DATES SET
|
Port Royal Music Festival 2008 The official date for the third annual Port Royal Music Festival is November 7 - 9, 2008. The change of date from the usual month of August to November will enhance tourism in Jamaica for November, bringing more tourists to the island during this time. The planning and organizing for its third staging is well underway and this year’s event promises to exceed all expectations.
The festivities will begin with the Celebrity Party, followed by the Main Show and then Jazz on the Harbour. It is clear that this year’s event will capture “all the right elements of music, bringing a diverse line-up of activities” as Christopher Blythe explains Director of Paradise Communications. “As we develop a music festival in Kingston, Jamaica we plan to revive Port Royal and bring forth its once ritzy days, which will be envied by many, not only in Jamaica but the entire region as a festival of class and quality” he added. This years line-up will include genres from adult contemporary, pop, r&b, reggae and jazz just to name a few.
The 2007 staging of the Port Royal Music Festival saw acts like Regina Belle, Brian McKnight, Tarrus Riley and Maxi Priest. Boyz II Men and Atlantic Starr were the main acts for the inaugural staging of the festival in 2006. The performances from these artistes were highly received by both audiences. In anticipation of this year’s line-up we can only expect the best as the Port Royal Music Festival drops their anchor as the premier music festival in Kingston, Jamaica. Certainly, if its first and second staging generated such overwhelming responses, this year’s event will be nothing short of explosive.
One thing is assured; Paradise Communications prides itself on consistently delivering a superior product of world class standards and will not disappoint.

MASTERPIECE – Hit Single by Live Wyya Band : :
Here is the latest
single from the up-coming album by Live Wyya Band! The title of the
single is 'MASTERPIECE,' produced by ace saxophonist/producer Dean
Fraser and Mikey Bennett of Home T 4 Group and CEO of top-recording
studio in Jamaica, Grafton Recording Studio.
Dean Fraser is the
producer of the album 'PARABLES' by Tarrus Riley which features the hot
single 'SHE'S ROYAL' which has won numerous awards in the land of
reggae and is nominated in seven (7) categories in the up coming IRAWMA
which will be held May 4 at the world-famous Apollo Theatre.
The
song 'MASTERPIECE' was written by Live Wyya’s lead singer Elijah Dixon
and the bandleader Carl Edwards. It was a featured song performed by
the band on the recently concluded five-week tour of North America with
the 'Cool Ruler' Gregory Isaacs.
The band performed an
electrifying 45-minute set that had the audiences at all the
performances in ecstasy prior to providing musical backing for the
'Cool Ruler.'
"MASTERPIECE" is the most requested song on Reggae
Radio Irie FM, the #1 radio station in Jamaica, and is presently
enjoying a fair amount of airplay on many radio stations in the UK and
Europe.
Daddy Ernie, a radio disc jockey at Choice FM radio in
London, England said that "'MASTERPIECE’ is truly a masterpiece by the
Jamaican band,” as he gets quite a lot of requests, mainly from female
listeners, for the song.
The Live Wyya Band represented Jamaica
in the recently held 'GLOBAL BATTLE OF THE BANDS' contest which was
held at the famous Astoria Theatre in London, England where they
competed against 25 bands from around the world, including Russia, and
was voted the most popular band in the contest.
They also were
winners last year in the category of 'BEST BACKING BAND' in the
International Reggae and World Music Awards held at the world-famous
Apollo Theatre, and are nominated this year again in the same category!
The
band is currently on a five-week tour of Europe, United Kingdom and
Ireland promoting their single “MASTERPIECE” and providing musical
backing for Gregory Isaacs, and also for the up-and-coming dancehall
duo from the Bounty Killa-led Alliance, K Queens.
European reggae fans are anxiously awaiting this tour that will be a MASTERPIECE.

WAYNE STODDART : : LOVE CONVICTIONS
Before beginning work on “Love Convictions” Wayne Stoddart spent months in prayer, meditation and reading Holy Scriptures. The result was a revelation which he puts simply as 'Love. At the root of everything is love. Love in abundance or Lacking Love.'
A simple message which Wayne Stoddart uses to lyrically address hard- hitting issues tackling topics like drug abuse, global disunity and the need for persistence in the face of adversity. With more than twenty year0
