DOCTOR DREAD LAUNCHES MYREGGAE.COM - STATE OF THE ART WEBSITE FOR ALL THINGS REGGAE
Doctor Dread, born Gary Himelfarb in 1954, first discovered reggae music in 1973, after listening to Bob Marley’s 'Catch A Fire' and the 'Harder They Come' soundtrack. After frequent trips to Jamaica, his love for reggae was cemented. Inspired by the people he met and the powerful roots of Jamaican culture, he resolved to bring Jamaican music to the world. Back in the States, he established a reputation as a DJ at WHFS, a major Washington DC radio station, where he earned the ‘Doctor Dread’ moniker, and where the songs of reggae greats like Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff and many lesser known artists first reached the airwaves.

He founded RAS Records, which stands for Real Authentic Sounds, in 1980. The label eventually grew to include a who’s who roster of reggae artists, with Black Uhuru, Bunny Wailer, Gregory Isaacs, Inner Circle and Israel Vibration all releasing landmark albums. He recently launched another label, Tafari Records, which has released new material from Israel Vibration, Kenyatta “Culture” Hill and Bunny Wailer, amongst others.

Ever the creative entrepreneur, Doctor Dread is now set to launch myreggae.com, an exciting and comprehensive new website for reggae artists and enthusiasts alike.

“I needed to reinvent myself in a way that was relevant to the ever-changing music community. I have the same vision and energy for this as when I first started RAS Records in my basement over 25 years ago. It’s a vibe that feels really right for the youth and for all those that love reggae. It is also a way for artists to feature unreleased music for download and reach millions of potential fans worldwide.”

Both an all-encompassing online store and a social networking community, myreggae.com offers a combination of merchandise and interactive space, from a comprehensive selection of CDs, digital downloads, vinyl, books and t-shirts to discussions, blogs and profiles. The site will also function as a platform for reggae artists to connect with a worldwide fan base, allowing artists to upload and share their own music and information on the site.

Perhaps most exciting to reggae fans will be the exclusive content offered for download on the site. Doctor Dread has built up a considerable list of connections over his twenty-five years in the business and plans to put these contacts to good use, offering studio tracks and remixes formulated especially for myreggae.com.

Each subsequent visit to the site will yield something new—new exclusive content, new releases, new discussions and a constantly expanding network of reggae artists and enthusiasts. True to his independent roots, Doctor Dread hopes the site will both support and invigorate the entire reggae community, and looks forward to input from visitors.

“From when we set the foundation we can all watch it grow and become what it is destined to become.”

CHEF MAYRA: Have you heard about GMOs???
Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are created through the insertion of genetic material from one organism, often of a completely different and unrelated kind, into another.

Therefore, when food is manufactured from GMOs it is called genetically modified food. Genetically modified corn, soybeans, canola, potatoes and tomatoes are being grown on 70 million acres of American farmland. They are for sale as fresh and processed foods, with hundreds of other crops soon to follow.

Sixty to seventy percent of processed food contains a genetically modified ingredient. Without labeling, there is no way to know whether the crops on the farm next door or the food we consume are genetically modified. Furthermore, without labeling it is impossible to track GMOs through the food chain. Thus, there is no way to determine their affects on health or the environment.

What do you think? Interesting??? Scary???

Here are some facts:
• Most consumers are still unaware of GM foods.
• Forty-one percent of consumers who claim basic awareness of the regulation of GM foods believe that there is “too little” regulation.
• Without GMO labeling, consumers have no choice because they have no control over whether they eat a GM food or not.
• Without labeling, tracking of possible health effects due to GMO consumption is impossible.

Read more on this subject right here next week.

I am here to open your curiosity and be more aware about what companies are doing to our food!

Next On a lighter side!!! I will give you a fun MIX to play with...

GAYS SHUT DOWN BOUNTY KILLER’S EUROPEAN TOUR
Gays across Europe have vowed to have all of dancehall artiste Bounty Killer’s Deadly Alliance Tour concerts cancelled and have so far been almost completely successful.

The gay rights activist group Outrage “challenges homophobia and creates public awareness of discrimination”.

The group was not able to stop Bounty’s Stratford show but managed to convince other promoters to postpone and cancel other shows where he was scheduled to perform.

Outrage carries out their Stop The Hate Music Campaign against any artistes who had refused to sign the Reggae Compassionate Act which makes them ineligible to perform songs that “glorify or encourage violence”.

The Deadly Alliance Tour is still underway with planned concerts in France, Italy, Belgium, and Switzerland.

EARTH DAY PRAYER
Dear God;
we thank you for this earth, our home; for the wide sky and the blessed sun, for the ocean and streams, for the towering hills and the whispering wind, for the trees and green grass.

We thank you for our senses by which we hear the songs of birds, and see the splendor of fields of golden wheat, and taste autumn's fruit, and rejoice in the feel of snow, and smell the breath of spring flowers.

Grant us a heart opened wide to all this beauty; and save us from being so blind that we pass unseeing when even the common thornbush is aflame with your glory.
