CANADIAN EMPRESS EMPIRE ISIS EN ROUTE TO BRAZIL FOR SECOND INTERNATIONAL TOUR OF THE YEAR
Montreal, Canada (Top40 Charts/ KINGSTON Records) - Canadian Empress Empire ISIS will be en route to Brazil to perform a five day back-to-back sizzler of music in Sao Paolo. After recently completing her recording with super producer Prayon (G-Unit, Mobb Deep, Sean Paul, Beyonce) for the re-release of Sound the Trumpets under Monumetnal-HLM-Universal. Empire ISIS is preparing to explore the world stage once again.

Being an extremely well-traveled artist before the spotlight, Empire ISIS is excited to return to Brazil & Sao Paolo after 4 years.

'I always said that I left my heart in Brazil many years ago, and now I'm coming back to get it triumphantly as Empire ISIS, to mash up the Reggae/Hiphop scene and keep the link powerful.'

Upon returning from Sao Paolo, Empire ISIS third international tour of the year will launch out of New York City as part of the Pepsi Tour and then off to Morocco, as well as a range of festivals throughout the summer like the Montreal & Quebec City Reggae Festival.

Nominated for "Most Promising Entertainer" at the International Reggae and World Music Awards, and winner of "Best new International Artist of Canada" at the SOBA awards, this North-African beauty defies all preconceived ideas of your typical urban artist. Empire ISIS aka Empress Gangstress brings the fire with her high energy and conscious dancehall lyrics on her new album "Sound the Trumpets". Ranked number 7 on the top 10 unsigned artists in the world by "The frost report", In addition, ISIS single "Get Up On It" went on the European record pool charts for 5 weeks at number 40, and is currently charting in the US. In New York City she held the number 2 spot on Record Pools for 4 weeks beating some of the biggest names in the industry such as Justin Timberlake, and 50 Cent to name a few. In Canada, she has been on multiple CMJ charts including ranked number 2 on Fusion radio and ranked number 1 in Toronto.

Her first studio effort, 'Sound the Trumpets', was recorded between New York and Tuff Gong Studios, Penthouse, & King Of Kings in Jamaica. Produced by Prayon from G-unit , Overstand, and Flava, ISIS has painstakingly developed her sound and image while maintaining ownership of all her songs under her brothers record label Monumental Records. In addition, the album features two roots reggae stars Turbulence and Sizzla Kalonji. ISIS has performed before thousands across North America - opening for acts such as Capleton, Bounty Killa, Elephant Man, Gyptian, Sizzla and many more.

Matisyahu has a handful of other summer concert appearances lined up, including sets at Milwaukee's Summerfest (June 30) and the inaugural Pemberton Festival in British Columbia (July 27). The reggae rapper is currently working on the follow-up album to 2006's "Youth."

REGGAE SUMFEST HOURS EXTENDED

Pictured: Beenie Man is one of the top acts scheduled to perform at Sumfest this year. The event will go beyond the 2 a.m. lock-off time attached to events because it has been designated a national event. - Colin Hamilton/Freelance Photographer

Unlike most events in Jamaica, this year's Reggae Sumfest should be allowed to go beyond the slated 2 a.m. lock-off point.

Robert Russell, chairman of Summerfest Productions, promises that the event, which will take place from July 13-19, will be a good one. He also disclosed that the festival has been afforded the privilege of going beyond 2 a.m. because it has been designated a national festival. This status, he says, might be the same for other events like Air Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival and Jamaica Carnival.

"We have been designated a national festival. That consideration is because of the number of foreign visitors we attract. That is about 5,000 visitors and US$5 million in revenue. So we have been afforded the privilege of going later than 2 a.m.

CHEF MAYRA: CARIBBEAN NIGHTS RIGHT IN OWN YOUR BACK YARD
Kabobs make outdoor entertaining festive and fun. They can be easily assembled ahead of time, grilled to perfection in minutes and there's little clean up after the meal. They're perfect for backyard picnics and parties.
When making kabobs for a crowd, use inexpensive, disposable wooden skewers. Wooden skewers must be soaked in water for about 30 minutes before using to prevent them from burning. Use 2 wooden skewers per kabob.

Turn kabobs frequently as they're grilling, baste with additional sauce occasionally. Wait until the last few minutes of grilling time to baste with sweeter sauces, especially if they contain raw or not raw brown sugar.

The following grilling times are highly variable - depending, of course, on distance above the coals and the actual temperatures. Kabobs with tightly packed ingredients will need more time.

For beef, pork, or lamb kabobs with 1" cubes -
Grill time at about 4" above medium hot coals should be about 10 to 12 minutes.

For beef, pork, or lamb kabobs with 1-1/2" cubes -
Grill time at about 4" above medium hot coals should be about 15 to 20 minutes.

For chicken or turkey kabobs with 1" cubes -
Grill time at about 4" above medium hot coals should be about 8 to 10 minutes.

For chicken or turkey kabobs with 1-1/2" cubes -
Grill time at about 4" above medium hot coals should be about 12 to 14 minutes.

For for fish kabobs, such as salmon, tuna, halibut etc. with 1" cubes -
Grill time at about 4" above medium hot coals, should be about 10 to 12 minutes.

For for Tofu kabobs, extra firm. With 1" cubes -
Grill time at about 4" above medium hot coals, should be about 10 to 12 minutes.

Check back with me next week and I will give you a yummy recipe for Jamaican Jerk Yaman Chicken or Tofu Kabobs.

DANCEHALL'S FAVORITE SING JAY HAS RETURNED WITH ANOTHER STEAMY SINGLE, "MUS COME A ROAD"
This new song, which has been boiling on the underground dancehall circuit, is sure to dash up the charts. Produced by Rellee of "Raging Bull" fame and penned by Mr. Vegas, "Mus Come a Road" will surely set the summer on fire!

When the pulsating beat drops for "Mus Come a Road," a sense of nostalgia evokes, as the song is built on Barrington Levy's 1982 smash "Prison Oval Rock." Vegas' millennium version of the cult classic thrives with a Barrington Levy sample, which is looped through out the song.

The original cut evolved from dances in Spanish Town that were held near a prison. Barrington Levy, clearly Vegas' favorite singer, vividly described the whole era in his hit. Moreover, Vegas unleashes a modern day twist with "Mus Come a Road."

On "Mus Come a Road," Mr. Vegas' passionately croons of the injustice of criminal justice. "There are some people behind bars who have been charged for a crime that is not as bad as the people who are in jail for murder, and the murders sometimes get out before them," says Mr. Vegas earnestly. "This song is for the people who have experienced that."

Mr. Vegas catapulted on to the Reggae dancehall scene over ten years ago with the break through hit "Heads High." For over a decade, he has been incessantly entertaining fans with timeless hits. His latest album Hot It Up, distributed by Delicious Vinyl, has been embraced by his fans. Notably, "Hot Wuk" made the Billboard charts. Now, Mr. Vegas is positioned to score again with the sure-fire "Mus Come a Road."

ALI'S BROTHER AND MAXI PRIEST SINGERS FOR UB40

Suffolk, England - UB40 has signed up to perform at this year's Newmarket Nights only weeks after the band pulled out of the popular Suffolk concert series when lead singer Ali Campbell quit the group.

The line up for this year's series of open air concerts at Newmarket's July Course has been completed with the announcement that UB40 will perform with special guest, Maxi Priest, on Friday, July 25th.

For well over 25 years, UB40 has entertained audiences with its unique, reggae music. During this time the band has had huge worldwide success with three UK number 1 singles - Red, Red Wine, I Got You Babe and Can't Help Falling in Love - and two UK number 1 albums - Labour of Love and Promises and Lies. In 2003 UB40 received an Ivor Novello Award for International Achievement.

The band was originally due to perform at Newmarket Nights on Friday, July 18th, but had to cancel due to the departure of lead singer, Ali Campbell. But his brother, Duncan Campbell, has now been officially announced as the new lead singer having previously performed with them on a number of occasions despite never being an official member.

UB40, named after the Unemployment Benefit Form 40, will be joined on stage by special guest, Maxi Priest. The English singer/songwriter first launched onto the British music scene in 1988 with his first major self-titled album. He joined the UB40 tour at the end of 2007 which culminated in sell out shows in Birmingham and an extended tour with UB40 throughout this summer.

Arkaingelle : : O'PEN
The title of the Track is Run Come. The album was released March 15th 2008....O' PEN!!!

Arkaingelle
is a fresh new reggae artist whose blazing vocals and meditative lyrics are resounding thunderously within the roots-reggae scene. Hailing from Buxton, a country village outside of Georgetown, Guyana (on the Caribbean coast of South America), he unites an Afro- Caribbean perspective with the ever strengthening, proAfrican voice of RasTafari.

On his Debut solo release, Arkaingelle compels the listener to O'PEN up, let the sonic vibrations in and reflect on the message of RasTafari.

From the first track to the last, the music penetrates the heart of the listener, taking him or her into a deeper realm of consciousness.

"Manifess Joy," highlights Arkaingelle's vocal talents as he extols to the listener to live in love and remember that faith and werks do prevail. In the title track, "O'PEN," he exposes the vanity and corruption of modern society while calling for conscious expression, reverence for the ancient and glorification of the Most High. Already teking ovah the airwaves coast to coast, "Tek Ovah" is a guaranteed roots classic rejoicing the rise of RasTafari.

Production credits go to Blaak Lung of Oakland, California, who once again delivers a deep and uplifting sound for Green Sphere Records.

The unique Virgin Islands roots brand is present on each track as sweet riffs from the legendary Tuff Lion soothe the soul and the heavyweight bass of Kenyatta Itola powerfully aligns with Batch's hard stepping drum kicks and licks. O'Pen is an album that is sure to become a must-have for every roots-reggae listener.

Mr Brown : : Boderation
Mr Brown and Dubkids have emerged last year as one of Austin's hardest party bands. They successfully completed 3 midwest tours and 1 west coast tour, as well as holding down the burgeoning demand for reggae all over Texas year round Mr. Brown released the Not Study War 7" last spring to have something available for shows they did with the likes of Morgan Heritage, E-Z All Stars, Slightly Stoopid, the Chaka Demus and Pliers, and Fishbone. The group has forthcoming shows booked with Groundation, Culture, Luciano, and Clinton Fearon.

"Rubadub" is the newest single on the Boderation album and has received radio play on 5 stations in the Austin area, as well as several other cities nationwide. The song is straight up, conscious roots song in the spirit of Dennis Brown. It is perhaps best described by its lyrics:

Rubadub - Dancing to express our thanks and praises and our love
Rubadub - Scrub my soul down till there's nothing left to scrub

Enjoy! www.digmrbrown.com

From brooklyn to the barrio from the barrio to the caribbean. Saga Asad blends afro-latino, caribbean, hip hop, blues, jazz influences to make a sound all his own. Born in new orleans,Louisiana nut raised in brooklyn,ny Aqul (saga) learned not only about his caribbean heritage but also about the diversity of his family with grandparents of european, hispanic, native indian, east indian descent and ancestry Aqul grew up with a world view and universal outlook on life. Grabbing the mic at a young age chanting on his father's set (sound system) at family outings and local dances (parties) Aqul groomed his chops. With the heavy influence of hip hop in the late eighties into the nineties Aqul adapted himself to the craft earning a reputation as a fierce freestyler and garnering respect and admiration for his memory skills usually not writing down lyrics or memorizing them on spot. During their last visit to Toronto, they were invited to perform at 102.1 The Edge Nu Music Nite at The Horseshoe. While in the city, Idlers were featured artists on The Edge, where they continue to be in rotation.

Idlers take much of their inspiration from the Roots Reggae music of the mid 1970's. Staying true to the conscious voice of Roots Reggae, the Idlers music speaks of the human condition, discussing issues of war, capitialism, social and personal struggle. Major influences of the Idlers include Burning Spear, The Congos, The Upsetters, Desmond Dekker, Prince Buster, The Gladiators, Culture, Steel Pulse, The Clash, The English Beat, The Skatalites, Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Max Romeo, U-Roy, Lee Sratch Perry, and King Tubby.

Idlers released their debut full length CD, Corner in December 2007. Not wasting any time, a second album has been written and the Idlers will be back in the studio during the winter of 2009 to prepare the next release.

Idlers would like to acknowledge the assistance and financial support of Music NL and the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council.

WHAT IS YOUR VIEW ON ESCHATOLOGY?
What is your view on eschatology? Do you have one? Most of us would be hard pressed to answer this without researching the Internet or dusting off a Bible, Pibby, or Talmud.

Yet, your beliefs about eschatology may be as important to the future of humankind as is your next breath.

Eschatology (from the Greek, Eschatos meaning"last" and -logy meaning "the study of") is a part of theology and philosophy concerned with the final events in the history of the world, or ultimate destiny of humanity, commonly referred to as the end of the world.

In many religions such as Rastafarianism, Judaism, Islam and Judeo-Christianianity there are similar beliefs in a "new heaven on Earth" or a future Zion.

In many Native American beliefs and Christianity, there is prophecy of a coming Supreme being. There are shared prophecies among the Hopi in America and the ancient Mayans of future Earth upheaval in 2012 in the form of meteor showers and volcanic activity forcing the world into chaos.

This "Apocalypticism" is a worldview based on the idea that the important matters are esoteric in nature (hidden) and they will soon be revealed in major confrontation of earth-shaking magnitude that will change the course of history.

Whatever the future holds, you can be sure that there will be people seeking to profit from the fear that the unknown may generate. Tim Lahaye, author of the "Left Behind" fictional series has just written his twelfth book about the coming destruction awaiting those who do not believe in Jesus. He has out-sold Stephen King and John Grisham combined. Amazingly, his books sell as fictional novels even though he bases them on literal interpretations of the last book in the Bible, Revelations.

Most people are not aware that these literal interpretations are negatively affecting world peace.

More next week on this subject...until then,

Peace and Love,
