Greetings Dear Clerks!

Whew! The obligatory end of May deadline is passed, and 2007 Annual Reports are transmitted. Congratulations! Duane's work has only just begun, yet yours is completed......for approximately 365 days. You may now devote your brain cells to equally pressing issues Clerks are confronted with on a daily basis.

Conferences and Training Classes continue at a fast clip.

The Annual Northwest Clerks Institute training begins 06/01 and concludes 06/20/08.

The WA Association of District Employees, (WADE,) Annual Conference is 06/16 to 06/18/08, in Leavenworth. We are honored Mark Felchlin, BIAS Senior Account Executive, is invited to be a guest speaker on the topic of Budget Development and Financial Management.

06/17 to 06/20/08 is the Association of WA Cities, (AWC,) 75th Annual Conference. They are celebrating this anniversary in Yakima, where it all began. Say Hi to Mark at the Exhibitor Reception, Thursday, 06/19/08 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

"AWC's Small Cities Scholarship Program provides a limited number of free registrations for small cities and towns under 5,000 population. Please apply only if you truly need financial assistance. Due to limited funds, scholarships for this workshop will be awarded on a first come, first served basis, with only one scholarship per jurisdiction."

ABOUT THIS ACADEMY

AWC's
popular annual workshop on municipal budgeting and financial management has an expanded scope allowing you to choose more of the sessions that are right for you. In addition to the introduction to municipal budgeting curriculum that has been taught in the past, attendees can access intermediate and more advanced budgeting sessions, other valuable breakout sessions on a variety of topics, as well as a session on the new streamlined sales tax laws going into effect this July, (held Wednesday.)

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

"The training format is designed to provide training for elected officials, as well as staff with a role in developing or implementing the budget. City teams of elected officials and staff are encouraged. Counties and special districts may also find this core budget process training helpful."

This year's WADE keynote speaker will be Jaime Pinkham, "a member of the Nez Perce Tribe. Long ago he practiced the art of forestry. Eventually he returned to Nez Perce Country to oversee the tribe's natural resources effort and then took the leap of faith to be an elected tribal leader."

Both classes qualify for CMC, MMC, and CMC Recertification points at a rate of one point for each six in-class hours.
