This issue marks CoGri News first year anniversary.
Published on a quarterly basis, CoGri News was first launched in September 2007, in both printed and electronic media.
The aims of the newsletter have always been to keep clients up to date with the Group’s activities, highlighting key services and achievements. We hope that you will continue to find the contents both informative and useful.

A Greek Triumph For Concrete Grinding Ltd
Concrete Grinding Ltd successfully completed their first contract in Greece for a new build project in Athens.
Aktor SA was the main contractor and Trade Logistics was the client, a 3PL services provider, representing the popular household furniture store, Ikea.
Working together with the flooring contractor and newly appointed agent, Eurolit®, CG performed 3 wheel track Laser Grinding to 46 narrow aisles totalling over 4800m of VNA. That’s equivalent to over 3 miles of aisle way!
Due to timing restrictions, the decision was made to lay the floor using a Laser Screed® in large joint-less panels. A floor built using the Laser Screed® technology allows for up to 2,000m2 to be constructed in a single day. As each large section of the floor was completed and handed over, other contractors could start their work whilst the remainder of the floor was being constructed.
According to the project’s schedule, once the floor was laid, the centreline of each proposed aisle was marked on the floor then surveyed by Face Consultants Ltd to check for compliance to the DIN 15185 specification. Any areas of the floor surveyed that were not compliant with the specification were identified from the FACE Profileograph graphic traces and corrected by remedial laser grinding.
This approach, combined with the skill of the flooring contractor, allowed for only the non-compliant areas of floor to be ground, thus increasing speed, efficiency and eliminating the time wasted grinding the entire length of each aisle. Subsequently, the cost for Laser Grinding was also reduced.
In addition, a typical steel joint interface was used by Eurolit® whilst casting the floor. However, this did not pose any problem for the Laser Grinder®, which has the ability to grind through the metal joint system.
The building itself was divided into 3 zones, with each zone using different Materials Handling Equipment. Each type of MHE had different wheelbase dimensions, meaning that the front 2 load wheels for each arrangement has a different spacing. The Laser Grinder® can easily adapt for this situation and be set-up to grind for any wheel spacing, depending on the clients’ requirements. This ensured that there was no delay between grinding works in the different zones.
Once Laser Grinding was completed, each aisle was once again surveyed by Face Consultants to prove full compliance with the DIN 15185 specification.
From start to finish, the entire project ran very smoothly. The project was completed ahead of the racking installation programme. This Laser Screed® & Laser Grinder® method of construction is the first to be done in Greece and it proved just how well the process works. This method is the fast track combination to a SuperFlat floor. Construction programmes can usually be reduced by significant amounts, giving a client/end user early occupation.
Project Manager of Aktor SA, Mr. Vlassis Theodosiou, commented, “The Laser Grinding work carried out by Concrete Grinding Ltd did not interfere at any time with any other ongoing work. We had a very strict time table and the whole constructing and grinding procedures of the floor went according to schedule without any deviation at all. We are extremely pleased with the overall results.”

Anti Slip Coating Successfully Installed By CG Flooring
CG Flooring Systems Ltd successfully refurbished 475m2 of floor space for the Masons Road site of Tappex Thread Inserts, in Stratford-upon-Avon, installing a chemical resistant anti-slip coating to improve the operational and aesthetic requirements of the floor. Tappex provides the design, manufacture and worldwide distribution of metal threaded inserts for plastics, alloys and wood.
The existing anti-slip coating was de-bonding and the brief was to install a new system similar to that in other areas of the factory. A “sandwich” system using sand blinding of aggregate between two coats of industrial strength coating was chosen in two colours. The project was to be completed during a week long shutdown period of production.
The key to the success of the installation and the future performance of the floor was ensuring that correct and detailed preparation took place. A lot of cutting oils are used in the production process at the factory and oil had penetrated the substrate. Therefore, shot-blasting and burning followed closely by encapsulating the substrate with an epoxy primer completed the initial stages. This ensured full de-contamination of the substrate and the floor was then ready to receive the new industrial flooring system.
The project raised a number of challenges that were effectively overcome and the project was completed from initial enquiry, site visit to installation in less than two weeks.

Face Consultants Update
Face Consultants has been busy in the last quarter in Portugal, Saudi Arabia,Germany, Ireland, Kuwait and Dubai.
In Portugal, FACE provided supervision and survey work for a flooring contractor, where the end-user was a Portuguese food company, specialising in dairy products and derivatives. FACE surveyed 19 aisles at 29 metres (551 linear metres) to DIN 15185 and 11,000m2 to FM2 specifications.
In Dubai, FACE worked on two different projects. FACE surveyed 34 aisles to DM2 specification for a construction company and provided a bespoke level survey for an express package delivery, freight forwarding company.
The second project involved two warehouses where the first required 3 aisles, at 162 meters long, to be surveyed. The second warehouse had 7 aisles and an open area.
In the UK, FACE have been surveying 4,950m2 of warehouse floor to FM2 specification, in Livingston.
In Pineham, FACE surveyed Zone A Plot 1 & 2, which were 11,000m2 and 31,000m2 respectively to FM2 special specifications.
In Gloucester, FACE carried out FM2 for a 3,000m2 floor area and CAT 1 on 24 aisles at 51 metres (1224 linear meters).
In Burton-On-Trent, FACE surveyed 32,000m2 to FM2 special in a new warehouse for a palletised distribution company.
More recently, a CoGri Group collaboration meant that FACE was working with CG Flooring Systems for a client in Tamworth. FACE supervised remedial work and screw levelling prior to pump screed.
The project required a very tight tolerance of ±3mm to datum. Normal tolerance requirements for a TR34 specification warehouse is usually ±15mm.

Concrete Grinding Update
Concrete Grinding (CG) has been working on ongoing joint repair projects for a leading trade supplier of kitchen and joinery products and for a consumer health products manufacturer in the UK.
Work for a materials handling equipment manufacturer in Ashby De La Zouch involved a double cut, 2 wheel tracks grinding at 600mm.
In Spain, CG carried out 3 wheel track grinding on 12 aisles to DIN 15185 specification.
In Italy, CG performed 2 wheel track grinding on 18 aisles at 115m long to DIN 15185 specification for a food producer DC. Joint repairs were carried out of which there were 23 joints per aisle. Anti-dust sealants were applied after grinding.
In the Middle East, CG has completed a warehouse conversion from a double deep racking systems to a VNA facility for an electronics retailer.
There are five pending contracts in Germany and France.
A pending contract due to start in Germany for a freight forwarding company will require 2 wheel tracks grinding at 380mm, with a 300mm wide centre track, covering over 1100 linear metres of aisle. The one in France for a pharmaceutical company is due to start shortly.

Concrete Grinding Asia Pacific Secures Major Contracts
2008 continues to be a blistering year for Southeast Asia.
Concrete Grinding Asia Pacific (CGAP), working in conjunction with Fastflow Thailand, won their first pile supported metal fibre reinforced slab for a supermarket retailer’s new 24,000m2 D.C. CGAP received the letter of award in June and will be starting on site in mid September.
June also saw the award of their first grinding job in Australia. CGAP are starting in good style with a 1980 linear metre whole aisle grinding job for a facility to be used by a European furniture company.
In the same month CGAP also received a letter of award for a major freight forwarding company for it’s new 20,000m2 2 storey D.C. in Singapore. The project is comprised of 12,000m2 of category 1 floor and the balance is FM2.The three projects are worth a little over
SG$ 4,200,000 or about 2.45 million pounds.
The continuing growth in both size and number of projects has led to a need for additional plant. CGAP have recently acquired a factory refurbished 2001 S240 Laser Screed which is waiting in Thailand, and two brand new Whiteman 34 HP turbo ride on trowels, which will be going to Thailand with their two older units. Between the Singapore and Korea offices for major plant, CGAP and LGA Logis are now up to 2 S240 Laser Screeds, 1 Topping spreader, and 2 Somero Copperheads and not to mention the two Laser Grinder’s.

FACE Middle East Update
FACE Middle East Fzc, based in Dubai, has been busy winning contracts for the Group.
FACE ME, led by General Manager, Malcolm Godbold, acts as a Liaison Office for the CoGri Group of Companies, offering the full range of group services to the Middle East states.
Contracts won include a project where the end user is an express package delivery company. The warehouse, approximately 56,000m2, based in Jebel Ali Free Zone, Dubai, include a combination of VNA and wide aisle. The floor will potentially be laid using the long strip and Laser Screed method. FACE ME will be assisting with Design Review, Joint Layout and Loading calculation.
Another project for a DC in Jebel Ali Free Zone is pending for a 3PL pharmaceutical provider in the region. The warehouse will include narrow aisle application and long strip construction.
In Oman, FACE ME will be working for a supermarket retailer in the Middle East. The warehouse includes 8,000m2 VNA and 8 freezer store compartments.
FACE ME will be carrying out the design, supervision and survey of both projects.

Smokin’ Laser Grinding Project Completed In Korea
LGA Logis (LGAK) has recently completed upgrading of a VNA warehouse floor for British American Tobacco (BAT) – one of the world’s largest Tobacco Groups.
The initial concrete floor was specified incorrectly using a traditional ‘3 mm in 3 m’, under a straight edge specification, and was constructed by a general flooring contractor using the ‘Copperhead’ Laser Screed.
As the floor tolerance was not met, the floor was out of specification for its use. This meant that the Fork Lift Trucks (FLT) could not operate at maximum speed and were unable to use the top rack beam due to safety issues. This presented further implications not only for the Health & Safety of the warehouse operatives, but also the potential increase in maintenance and downtime of FLT and the overall warehouse efficiency.
Within less than a year after completion of the new VNA Warehouse, BAT approached LGAK for a solution to bring the floor to the correct tolerance using Laser Grinding.
A preliminary Profileograph Survey done by Face Consultants on behalf of BAT indicated a Transverse difference in level across the wheel track of up to 15 mm in places, which confirmed the poor floor surface regularity.
After using the Laser Grinder®, most of the floor was brought to CAT 1 specification, even though the basic requirement was to achieve CAT 2.
Combining the accuracy and effectiveness of Laser Grinder® with LGAK’s experience, the 700 m of Whole Aisle Laser Grinding was completed one week earlier than expected, within budget and in compliance with the contracted specification. At the same time, the Laser Grinding helped to fix the delamination and cracking problems and some Joint Repair work was carried out.

The CoGri Group welcomes new starters Neil Longbottom and Mathew Munro.
Neil joins CoGri Group as the new IT Manager and has five years experience in IT Support, at Carey Jones Architects, Leeds.
Neil completed his BEng Honours in Electronics and Communication Systems Engineering at the University of Lincoln in 2002.
As well as his day to day role as the IT Manager, Neil will be looking after the FACE after-sales technical service and assisting the FACE team directly.
Mathew Munro joins the IT department as an In-house Software Developer, on a one year work placement from a software Engineering course at the University of Huddersfield.
FloodSax® Assist Community Flood Scheme
FloodSax® were handed out to 180 properties in Catcliffe, Rotherham, under an innovative scheme to help protect households at risk in South Yorkshire.
The scheme is backed by Floods Recovery Minister John Healey, MP for Wentworth. Mr. Healey joined green support services provider eaga, Rotherham Council, South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue, the Environment Agency, Catcliffe Parish Council and the local Flood Action Group to hand out highly absorbent FloodSax® to residents in the area.
Mr. Healey said: “I welcome this joint initiative to provide all previously flooded households in the Catcliffe area of Rotherham with added protection against flooding. Last summer's floods caused misery for thousands of people with widespread damage across large parts of the country.”
A representative at eaga added: “Climate change means extreme weather conditions are becoming far more frequent, so we must do all we can to give individual households extra resilience to protect themselves. These FloodSax® can do just that. By having them stored in the house they can be deployed at very short notice to block the water coming through the front and back doors or to prevent the unpleasantness of lavatories overflowing.”

The Girls at CoGri Group Raced For Life
Well done to the Girls at CoGri Group who took part in Race for Life with their daughters, nieces and friends to raise money for Cancer Research UK on Sunday 22nd June.
The 5 kilometres circuit at Greenhead Park, Huddersfield, took the girls around the park 4 times, with an added obstacle of marching on against strong winds and rain. Some ran, some walked and some did a bit of both. Those that ran finished the race in just over 30 minutes!
Margaret Knott of EDS Ltd also took part in the race in the morning on the same day.
In total, the girls managed to raise an amazing £1481, over £400 above their target!
