Thought for the Day

There has never been a time when you and I have not existed, nor will there be a time when we will cease to exist. As the same person inhabits the body through childhood, youth, and old age, so too at the time of death he attains another body. The wise are not deluded by these changes.
– Bhagavad Gita

In our modern civilization we try to cling to time as it rushes past, almost begging time to stop. We want to continue to be what we are now. We don’t want to be subjected to the ruthless physical changes that are an inescapable part of life. Yet it is the nature of the body to change, up to the last change we call death. Anybody who tries to cling to what is changing cannot help feeling insecure.

Yet we needn’t be helplessly caught in time. There are a number of very simple steps we can take to begin to free ourselves. One of the easiest is to get up early in the morning. This gives us the opportunity to start the day with a leisurely pace – to take a short walk, if we like, and then to have our meditation, without worrying about catching the bus or being on time for school.

Message from Karen

Dear Friends,

I will be at Kripalu for 2 weeks of yoga therapy training with Joseph and Lilian LePage of Integrative Yoga Therapy.  I first learned of IYT shortly after my initial diagnosis of MS.  When I heard Joseph speak, I knew that his program would be the next step in my personal and professional journey through yoga.  I first studied with Joseph in 2000 and several times since then.  Through this program, my world view of yoga expanded to encompass all that is.  It's made me a better teacher because I have more tools and fewer mental contraints about what yoga is.  I look forward to sharing these tools with you in uncoming classes and workshops.

Take care of yourself and enjoy the rest of the summer.  Namaste, Karen

Russell Paul - The Ecstasy of Chant Weekend

September 5 - 7, 2008

Kripalu Center, Stockbridge, MA

Russill is also offering an evening of kirtan with an amazing group of musicians on Saturday, September 6.

Earlier this year, I participated in Russill's workshop, Christ in India, at Mercy by the Sea in Madison, CT.  This was a phenomenal workshop.  Russill is the real deal.  He teaches from his heart and his head.  If you have a chance to get to the workshop or the kirtan, you'll see what I mean.  Russill is also the author of The Yoga of Sound which is a wonderful book that includes an audio CD so that you can learn and practice the sanskrit chants.

MS Festival

First Annual Movement and Sound Festival

Woodbridge Green, Woodbridge, Connecticut

Sunday, September 14, 2008

1 to 5:00 p.m.

On Sunday, September 14, 2008 from 1 to 5 PM, BigFaceLove Yoga will be gathering a volunteer group of Yoga instructors, practitioners and residents from the Greater New Haven area to host the First Annual Movement and Sound Festival.

The festival will benefit research into Multiple Sclerosis, with all proceeds donated to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society: Connecticut Chapter. This charity event will take place on the Woodbridge Green in the Town of Woodbridge, CT.

A variety of Yoga and T’ai-Chi classes for all ages and abilities will be offered, along with live music from area musicians, local food and refreshments, etc. The highlight of the day will be an adaptive yoga class designed to assist people with MS, taught by certified yoga instructors.

We are planning Silent Auctions, donations of healthy food and beverages, and holistic services to generate the funds necessary to meet our goal of five thousand dollars. We are looking to bring the community together in celebration in order to raise awareness regarding MS, and support research into this chronic, disabling disease.

Please contact Bill Banick at 203-824-0927 or bill@bigfacelove.com for more information or to answer any questions you might have about the event.
