Greetings from our Farm in the Cowichan Valley
Greetings from our Farm in Lake Cowichan, which is feeling like ‘Kaley Acres’ as the Red Russian Kale takes over the garden. Inspiring us to create new ways of enjoying nature’s most nutritionally dense vegetable.
With International Peace Day and the Fall Equinox, we welcome the opportunity to reflect on the past season with Deep Gratitude. We sparked the Summer with our ‘Journey Through the 5 Elements Yoga Retreat’ with Natalie Rousseau in the beautiful Tofino Botanical Gardens. 3 weeks of catering for the Waldorf Teacher’s Training Program inspired new recipes to add to our upcoming cookbook.
Our Yoga and Surf Retreats in Tofino were brimming with joyful guests, perfect learning conditions for both surf and yoga and our menu expanded to include our new products at hOMe Grown Living Foods which had it’s debut at the Organic Islands Festival in early July. With our new 'air tight' rice paper packaging and 2 new flavors in our growing product line, we are proud to introduce the new web site.
Our most recent catering endeavor was spent at Stowel Lake Farm on Saltspring Island nourishing the students of Gioia Irwin and Orit Sen Gupta. Witnessing an intentional community in action on the Farm with seed saving, daily harvests and free spirited children frolicking was heartening.
While staying in the moment as much as possible, we are planning for an abundant season in Baja with many eclectic offerings this winter.
There are still two opportunities to join us locally before we migrate with the birds and whales to southern climates......

Fall Equinox Thoughts from Saida
'This year's Fall Equinox is on the 22nd of September and symbolizes a time to literally harvest our seeds that have grown into ripeness, a time of deep gratitude for all that graces us in our lives. So, what are you grateful for today? Take a moment to close your eyes and drop into everything in your life you are grateful for... your body, your emotional nature, your creative mind, your vast spirit, your loved ones, your community, mother earth, the list is truly endless!
This season corresponds with SPLEEN. Spleen when healthy expresses OPENNESS: an open mind, heart, and body. This openness is balanced with a sense of being CENTERED IN ONE'S OWN POWER and DEEPLY ROOTED INTO THE EARTH. Spleen loves a radiant, gold light and delights in the sweetness of life.
Spleen is related to the center and has the feeling of a pause before and after movement or change. Taking time to slow down and to feel our belly's warm and full with breath is a great way to connect with our own center. If you are feeling a little stressed, or find yourself over-thinking (worrying), or perhaps even feeling a little anxious about something, it is simply your emotional intelligence signaling to you that it is time to check if you are feeling open to life and if you are centered in this openness.'

Nicole's Conscious Corner
Nicole Walford, Milagro's Catering Goddess, has some wise words to share about Consciously considering
our waste and consumption with respect to food.....
Reclaiming the first two
“R’s” of Reduce, Re-use, and Recycle:
When considering our human impact on the planet
I frequently question what happened to the seemingly lost: Reduce and Re-use aspects of the commonly
seen Reduce, Re-use, and Recycle. The strong (and important) emphasis on
Recycling has left the other two “R’s” in a dark shadow- and that needs to
change. As aspiring conscious consumers and food lovers it is important that we
reduce our impact on the earth by retrieving the Reduce and Re-use and
incorporate them into our daily actions.
Food is vital to our well being and livelihood
on this earth. It is imperative that we look at FOOD with respect to Reducing
and Re-using. We must consider what we buy, where we buy it, and how much we
buy. The reality is: what we put in the trash is not going to simply disappear
because the garbage truck drove away. Our packaging, what our food is wrapped
in and how we dispose of our food (composting) is extremely important to our
planets health and ultimately our own health. Not only do we need to consider
our own waste but the global production, transportation, and of course what
impact this has on not only the environment, but the people that provide us
with the food we eat.
There is so much to consider when purchasing and preparing
food. If we place Reducing and Re-using in the forefront of our consciousness
we can eliminate un-needed waste that clutters and harms our precious
planet. The food choices we make
create demand for the products we want, increasing availability of our favorite
conscious treats. This is an indirect form of collective action and voting for
what we believe in and thus enforces the change that we want to see in the
world. The quote “live simply so others can simply live” emanates my thoughts
as I stream the grocery aisles in search of something greater than just food:
nourishment.
When we consider our
food as a sacred part of our connection to the earth, we will begin to reclaim
the first two “R’s” REDUCE, RE-USE therefore making conscious choices and
changes that will voice a movement towards a healthier planet, bodies, and
world. Spread the word…in unison we can create the future we envision. Mankind
is a tribe working to carry the message of our connection to mother earth: the
ground we stand on, the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the pure life
force that fills us is vital piece of the puzzle and the future of our
harmonious existence. Recognizing that life is not about the accumulation of
wealth or things but about the dance in which we feel connected with our mother
earth and the gift of nourishment from our food. May the journey begin today.

video which is sure to stimulate your awakening to conscious choices and living

International Peace Day
On this day we are reminded that every day can be peaceful, our collective consciousness can raise the vibrations of our global communities.
