RIVERS COALITION TO FEATURE NEW RIVER OF GRASS RESERVE PROPOSAL
A new concept for a unique public "Restoration Reserve" in the planned sugarland acquisition property will be explored and discussed at this month's meeting of the Rivers Coalition in Stuart.

Members and the public are urged to attend the year's first Rivers Coalition meeting, at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan 29 in the Stuart City Hall.

The Reserve could provide a tremendous "bonus" for sugarland acquisition, the basic purpose for which is a storage flowway south from Lake Okeechobee that would restore much of the River of Grass and relieve the two large estuaries of devastating discharges to the coasts in wet years.

Benefits and features of the proposed Reserve are covered in the Openers Column in Florida Sportsman Magazine's current February issue and may be seen at the following link: http://www.floridasportsman.com/confron/openers/0902/index.html

Also working on the Reserve idea is Forest Michael, of Michael Planning and Design, who will present preliminary options and thoughts about the possibilities for the Rivers Coalition audience.

"The Reserve can be an exciting addition for the sugar purchase," said Rivers Coalition Chairman, Leon Abood. "There are all kinds of spinoffs that can help the economy, the environment and our quality of life. Let's all get behind it in a big way."

The City Hall location offers plenty of free parking and there will be coffee and donuts for those attending.
