SAY MY NAME, WMM'S NEWEST ACQUISITION TO HAVE WORLD PREMIERE AT SXSW!

The newest acquisition by Women Make Movies, SAY MY NAME by Nirit Peled, will make its world premiere in the Documentary Feature Competition at the upcoming South by Southwest Film Festival. Featuring interviews and musical performances from a diverse cast of women including MC Lyte, Remy Ma, Rah Digga, Jean Grae, Monie Love, Estelle and newcomers Chocolate Thai, Invincible and Miz Korona, this powerful documentary delves into the amazing personal stories of women balancing professional dreams with the stark realities of poor urban communities, race, sexism, and motherhood. In a hip hop and R'n'B industry world dominated by men and noted for misogyny, the unstoppable female lyricists of SAY MY NAME are women turning adversity into art. Also making an appearance at SXSW is the animated short CHRONICLES OF A PROFESSIONAL EULOGIST, a film by Sarah Jane Lapp and produced through the WMM Production Assistance Program. Congratulations to our filmmakers! View a trailer of SAY MY NAME here.

WATCH LEILA KHALED ON SUNDANCE CHANNEL FEBRUARY 26

Don't miss your chance to see LEILA KHALED: HIJACKER, by Palestinian filmmaker Lina Makboul, during its broadcast run on Sundance Channel. This powerful film documents the story of the young Palestinian who made headlines in 1969 as the first woman to hijack a plane. As a Palestinian child growing up in Sweden, the filmmaker admired Leila Khaled's story for her bold actions; however as an adult, Makboul began asking complex questions about Khaled's legacy. In light of a recent wave of violence in Gaza, Makboul's film raises timely and relevant questions that are more important than ever.
