He is in need of special doctors and healers who work with stroke survivors. He has not been able to work at his job as a union laborer. His union claims he needs 7 more units in order to receive benefits. He is dependent on medi-cal and the doctors are busy and not able to give him the attention he is in dire need of. He needs to be evaluated by brain surgeons for possible options to address a new condition discovered by the stroke. He has a brain aneurism lodged in a difficult place. There are some new operations (a stint) that could save his life but he is not even on a waiting list for these modern procedures yet. If you have enjoyed Ras Kidus and his music and movies, please give. The paypal button is located at http://www.myspace.com/raskidus Any contribution will be gratefully appreciated. JAMAICAN FILM FEST POSTPONED
Source: Jamaica-gleaner.com The second staging of the Reggae Film Festival has been postponed. In an email sent to the media, Barbara Blake Hannah, the film festival director, explained why the decision was made. "The decision to postpone the second Reggae Film Festival scheduled to have taken place February 23-27, was one of the saddest decisions I have ever had to take. Sad, yes, but inevitable, given that funding had not been sourced to stage the event whose six months of planning was now in the completion stage.
"At the 2008 event, we found that we needed more than three nights to show all the films, introduce film-makers and present awards, so we planned a five-day festival with day and night screenings to handle all the submissions.
"The Reggae Film Festival deserves the opportunity to be an event in its own right. In the 12 months since the first one was staged, interest from outside Jamaica has been pleasantly surprising and the event has a major impact on the Internet. Apart from entries from around the world, we have been offered and are considering invitations to stage the event in three European countries and at several international reggae festivals. This shows the organisers that the Reggae Film Festival can be aflag bearer for several Jamaican products and organisations through sponsorship branding.
"Postponing the event to a later date will provide ample time for proper funding and planning to be put in place to create a proper event. We already have serious sponsorship interest from twoprivate-sector companies, as well as some Government support that will take the burden off the Ministry of Culture's stretched resources. So, instead of disappointment at having to postpone the Reggae Film Festival, I am now pleased to be given more time to ensure that the festival's benefits are maximised, both locally and internationally."

BURNING SPEAR WINS SECOND CAREER BEST REGGAE ALBUM GRAMMY® FOR JAH IS REAL
Burning Music Productions proudly announces that Reggae music icon Winston ‘Burning Spear’ Rodney (O.D.) has won his second career Best Reggae Album Grammy for his all-new 2008 studio CD release, Jah Is Real. The 51st Annual Grammy Awards were held Sunday, February 8th at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California, and broadcast on CBS TV Network in US and to a worldwide audience. Burning Spear is a previous Grammy winner for his 1999 Calling Rastafari album and has received a record 11 nominations (most in the Reggae genre) for releases over his career to date (www.Grammy.com).
Spear and his wife/ Burning Music Productions partner Sonia, who also attended along with son, Kevin, are greatly appreciative of the recognition by the Academy members for the honor. It was also significant for them as being the only fully independent release among the nominations this year. Congratulations for Spear’s win came backstage from other music icons as former Beatles member, Sir Paul McCartney, bluesman BB King, and many more from the musical community. He was also interviewed by the worldwide press in attendance including Fox Network, BBC, CNN, People, and many more along the event’s red carpet upon his arrival at the Grammys.

DANGER ZONE'S 'JOURNEY'S COMPILATION' IMPACTING THE WORLD
International reggae/dancehall labels Danger Zone and SoBe Entertainment are creating quite an impact with the infectious reggae compilation, 'Journey's', featuring some of the genre's biggest names on 15 of the hottest tracks to hit the music scene in a long time.
Distributed by Tad's Records Inc and digitally by Zojak Worldwide, the compilation remains a top seller since its release last year, and in fact remains one of iTunes international top reggae sellers and is a constant feature on the music store's top 100 reggae charts.
CEOs of Danger Zone Music Group, Delmar 'Della' Drummond and Edward 'Nine' Warren are reveling in its success, confident that Journey's will go down in history as one of the best reggae compilations of all time.
According to Zoe Espitia, CEO of Zojak Worldwide, the digital distributors of the compilation, last week the album hit number 83 on USA's iTunes top 100 reggae charts. In addition, Zoe said Japan's iTunes charts just featured the album last week on front page.
The Zojak CEO added that Danger Zone artiste CéCile's 'Worth It' album (the digital version of 'Waiting') is doing really well. "It hit number 17 on the US iTunes 100 Reggae charts. In fact, she was the only female artiste on the chart out of 100 and that's no small feat. That is really fantastic to see, I have not seen that in a long time. On the UK iTunes charts, she hit number 3," Zoe stated.
According to Tad Dawkins Snr., CEO of Tad's Records Inc, "the 'Journey's Compilation' has all hit songs, especially the Jah Cure, Tony Rebel, Queen Ifrica and of course, CéCile. It is doing very well."
Executively produced by Danger Zone Records and Sobe Records, the 15-track 'Journey's Compilation' features: Jah Cure with the title track, CeCile 'Ride Or Die', Morgan Heritage 'Traitor', Queen Ifrica 'Rise Ghetto Youths', Tony Rebel 'Hope The Law', I'Octane 'Sow Life Seeds', Jigsy & Tony Curtis 'Show Off', Lutan Fyah 'Travelling', Anthony B 'No Love', Junior Reid 'Girl', Cutty Corn 'Poochie Loo', Pinchers 'Swear', Lukie D 'Meant To Be', Jigsy & CéCile 'Plant It' and the Journey Version closes it off.
Representing Jamaican music on the international scene for a decade, Danger Zone has produced some of the hottest riddims on the scene, among them Payback, Solidarity, Sting 93 and Jamdown, which won the Best Reggae Compilation Album at the 2008 Reggae Academy Awards, giving Della Danger the Executive Producer's Award.

NAS RECORDING ALBUM WITH DAMIAN MARLEY
Nas told Billboard last week he was cooking up a few surprises, and now we know one of them: an as-yet-untitled collaboration with reggae star Damian Marley.
The pair has been recording quietly in Los Angeles for the last several weeks. Nas' manager, Anthony Saleh, tells Billboard the project will most likely be released in the spring. It's not clear which label will release it; Nas is signed to Def Jam, while Marley records for Universal.
"We've been recording in a studio, where people like Mick Jagger are recording. No one knew who we were," Saleh says. "We're going to Miami this week to finish it up and we're aiming to tour for the album this summer."

KISKO AMARI : : Certain Things
I was born Navardo Henry on September 21, 1984, and hail from greenwich Acres, St.Ann, Jamaica. Kisko was my childhood nickname. I later choose Amari, an east African name that means strength builder. When I was 16 years old, I became a member of Lewis District Seventh-day Adventist church youth choir and York Castle School choir. After graduating from York Castle High, I attended Knox Community College and respected the ambitions of becoming either an electrical engineer or mechanical engineer. I never really seriously entertained the idea of a career in the music business even though I loved to sing. As I matured, I began listening to a lot of music, mostly reggae. In fact it was then that Sizzla Kolongi became my new mentor. I started writing, and singing my own songs, and recorded a three track demo cd, in the 2006. My big break came on march 31, 2006, when I performed successfully in the Reggae-Jam's Fourth Annual talent search show, in Jamaica Queens, New York. This led to my first on-air radio interview. The public loved my style, which I displayed during my performances. I began working as the opening act for artists such as; Kip Rich, Yami-Bolo, Major Mackrerel, and Ed Robinson. I can truly say as an artist that there is nothing I enjoy more than working on stage, and connecting with my fans and fellow lovers of reggae music. Presently, I am working on my debut album. Tracks from my upcoming album can be heard on my myspace page.
