Happy "V" Day!
I have been struggling with what to write about for Valentine's Day this year. Today almost everyone's security base is being shaken by fear and uncertainty. Financial worries spill over to commercial holiday's such as Valentine's Day. Spending unnecessary money on roses, chocolate, expensive dinners and even hallmark cards is not the real indicator to expressing, acknowledging and demonstrating one's love for another. However, the fact remains ~ it is the unofficial "LOVE HOLIDAY" for some women (and men) and their expectations are ripe. We all have on some level bought into this illusion of truth. We want to feel special...to be thought about...to be surprised...to be romanced. (And, what better way but with the beauty of a rose and the scent of chocolate...but I'm digressing)

This year in particular, I am having a lot of compassion for men and their responsibility to satisfy their beloved. I just read this very funny article called, "Surviving Valentine’s: A message to Men". It was written by a man and states,
"Men of the world, hear me now. Log it in your Outlook, your Blackberry, sticky notes, and perhaps even carve into your left wrist. In just a few short days, we will come upon February 14th, otherwise known as the “V” word. If ever there was a reason for men to unite, this is the mother of all reasons because it is here, on this day, that we collectively shoot ourselves in the foot, year after year." He goes on to write that he waited until the last minute last year and bought his wife yellow roses instead of RED. And, his hallmark card said something like, "I'm Bananas over You! (with a picture of a chimp smiling!) I have a strong intuition that he and his yellow roses were eating red bananas with his new found friend, the chimp that night.

So, what is my point in all this. I would like to relieve this undue pressure that our society creates for 2-14. Anyone who knows me, knows I live everyday as if it were Valentine's Day. Romance begins with oneself. Fresh flowers are always in my home and office. The majority of my workshops teach the mastery of love. The importance of awakening and connecting to the divine. The importance of forgiveness and letting go. I make it a point of telling my friends and family that I love them. Last week, I told my hair stylist how important she was to me. I often use one of my doctor's as a role model for men. I love telling women...yes....there are men out there that LOVE their wives, crazy about their children and are absolutely passionate about their work. Imagine your life if you received appreciation and recognition every day? A couple days ago, an old friend who I hadn't heard from in several years made my day. He sent me a note thanking me for helping him with his career. So, tomorrow, who could you do something for or simply express how important they are to you?

This "V" day ~ try to have some fun and be playful. Get out your crayons and make your cards. Find the humor in this love holiday. Love like a 6 year old would. Remember what it was like to be a child on Valentine's day? Did you bring in cupcakes for everyone? Bring that child out of you. (Remember, a 6 year old doesn't care if the flower you gave her is a daisy or a rose...she is just so happy you picked her the flower on the way to school and gave it to her) You don't have to spend a lot of money. But, you do need to access your imagination and creativity. Several weeks ago, one of my friends was having a hard day. It was snowing that night so I asked him to go for a walk in the park. Before we did that, I had a surprise for him - I knew what would do the trick. A candle lit hammock ride in my garden under the stars and moon while the snow melted on our cheeks as I told him a story. I can still see his smile now.

May you all have a very happy Valentine's day full of love, magic and enchantment.
