CHEF MAYRA’S VEGAN BEER AND WINE PART 2.
|
|
What alternatives exist? Bentonite or kaolin are two minerals that are used for fining by some wine makers. Some filter manually without the use of additives, or not at all.
Does vegan wine taste different to other wines? No. There are many wines of many different types that are suitable for vegans from around the world and across the spectrum of grape types and price ranges.
What about vegan champagne? There are many types of champagne that are suitable for vegans. There are also vegan sparkling wines, vegan red wines, vegan white wines and vegan rose wines. There are no categories of wine that I am aware of which there isn't some wine suitable for vegans.
About vegan beer Hey, wait a minute, does this mean not all beers are vegan either? Unfortunately not. Beers are processed in many of the same ways as wine, often using isinglass to filter the end product.
Organic wine Is organic wine suitable for vegans? Not necessarily. In fact, no more so than any other wine. Organic wine is produced without chemical fertilizers, pesticides, fungicides and with carefully restricted amounts of chemical preservatives (sulphur dioxide normally). Nothing is required with regards to the use of animal-derived ingredients.
Is organic wine suitable for vegetarians? Not necessarily for the same reasons as it may not be suitable for vegans. But I thought organic wine was "natural"? Animal-derived ingredients are considered "natural". In fact organic farmers may use animal blood and bone meal (crushed animal bones) which are slaughter house by products in place of chemical fertilizers, as well as any processing aids that are used in the wine itself.
Labeling Does vegan wine have a special label? Not usually. Occasionally a wine may be marked as suitable for vegans - e.g. Penfolds Clare Valley organic red wine - but that's rare. The Co-op supermarket chain labels its own brand wines as "suitable for vegetarians and vegans" when appropriate.
Does vegetarian wine have a special label? Not usually. However many supermarkets in the UK and Ireland at least label a lot of their own brand wines as "suitable for vegetarians" when appropriate. They don't use a recognized vegetarian symbol, such as that of the Vegetarian Society. The existence of "suitable for vegetarians" on the label doesn't mean that the wine either is or isn't suitable for vegans. The lack of any mark of suitability signifies nothing either, as most wines are not marked for suitability at all.
About vegetarian wine: What is vegetarian wine? Vegetarian wine is wine that has been produced without the use of additives that required animals to be killed. The use of eggs and dairy processing aids is okay for a wine to be suitable for vegetarians. Why are some wines suitable for vegetarians but not for vegans? Some wines are processed using egg whites or casein, an egg by-product, which means they are suitable for vegetarians but not vegans. Typically white wines use these processing aids.
Are the ingredients in wine on the label? Generally not. In Europe at least it is not permitted by law to include the ingredients on wine. The Co-op supermarket is braving the law by defying this and they do provide the ingredients to their own brand wine. As some processing ingredients are largely removed from the end product, some wine makers don't consider isinglass for example to be an "ingredient" in their wine, as they remove it (apart from traces) before bottling the wine.
Are additives to wine labeled? Generally not, although sulphide contents (a preservative) is often labeled in the USA.
Is the nutritional value of wine labeled? Sometimes - legislation differs from country to country. So number of calories and other information is often found on the label. Alcohol percentage is always labeled.
Finding vegan wine Frey Organic California wines all Vegan http://www.freywine.com/
There are a few wholly vegan wine producers:
- Wright Wines in New Zealand.
- Frey Vineyards of California.
- Organic Wineworks of California.
- Sedlescombe English organic wines

- USA

Homebrew Homebrew kits often contain animal-derived ingredients, particularly in the fining sachets. But it's easy to leave those aside and choose an animal-free alternative like bentonite. Animal-free home brewing products are available from many local home brewing shops, including: Limerick Homebrew Centre

Ziggy Marley : : Family Time
|
Marley produced the album with legendary producer Don Was. The album features a variety of family and friends including Rita Marley (Ziggy's mother), Cedella Marley (sister), Judah Marley (daughter), Paul Simon, Jack Johnson, Willie Nelson, Toots Hibberts, Elizabeth Mitchell, Laurie Berkner, Paula Fuga and two stories narrated by Jamie Lee Curtis.
"Growing up music was an important part of my childhood," Marley says. "I see it being just as important in my children and all children's growth and development. Music helps children to grow with open minds and open hearts and this is my message. This record represents my daily family life and is inspired by my three-year-old daughter Judah and baby Gideon. It was a joy to make and opened up new avenues in my creativity. Family Time is for all families and especially the world family."

GWhizz : : Mood Swing Riddim
|
|
www.myspace.com/gwhizzbaby
G-Whizz new single 'Life' is a very thought provoking ballad about the perils of poverty and one young man's plight to achieve success from his mother's wise teachings. (876radio.com) The young singer and his label recently teamed up with upcoming directors Abidan and Mossimo for the video which was shot on location at Coronation Market and its confines in downtown Kingston.
The song is produced by TJ of TJ Records and is part of the 'Mood Swing' rhythm compilation which also features Bugle, Vybz Kartel and the Portmore Empire's prodigal son Blak Ryno. TJ Records also produced the "UNFINISHED BUSINESS RIDDIM" featuring Billboard Chart Topping Movado "I"m So Special" & Serani "No Games."
The melodic rhythm provides a basis for the listener to hear and be entertained quite like in a sultry, almost acoustic template. The song joins the league of the conscious vibe being adopted by many Reggae artists like Beres Hammond, Konshens and I-Octane among a few. (outaroad.com)
"Mi Life Soon Saut 0ut, So Mi Nuh Worry" is a very catchy chorus, rapidly spreading throughout the international airwaves! If you are interested in booking reggae singer "G-WHIZZ" for dubplates, interviews, email info@patriceconcepts.com or call 973-985-1369

The Itals : : Let Dem Talk
|
|
Following the release of the retrospective “Ina Dis Ya Time” on VP Records last winter, The Itals have come back strong with an all new set of uptempo tunes on “Let Dem Talk,” featuring the finest studio musicians in Jamaica. The album opens with the ska-liciously tongue-in-cheek It’s Not Easy, wherein lead singer Keith Porter confides he didn’t get his freedom today, he had to put it on layaway. Who Reign is vintage Itals, praising the Father inna stately style. The album’s title track states, “let dem talk, let dem scandal my name”, a topical number about the endless empty talk that fuels the nightly news as well as the local sussa sussa. Two Stingray Records’ dub rhythms are artfully adapted, first in Chill Out, an atmospheric plea to stop the violence so prevalent in Jamaica and around the world today, and then So Many Times explores the search for true love and peace of mind, rendered with a healthy dose of Itals’ harmonies. The album’s first single, My Way High Way, bounces along before snaring you with it’s catchy hook line, showcasing Mr. Porter’s smooth vocals. There For Me is an inspirational anthem crafted with strong vocal harmonies, while Anything is one of two tracks co-produced by Tad Dawkins, characterized by tight syncopated rhythms and heartfelt vocals.Dawkins’ Hard Drugs rhythm reappears on No Mercy, where those spine-tingling Itals harmonies take front stage again, urging the listener to “meekly wait and murmur not” while waiting for the meek to grow strong. True Love and It’s You are unabashed love songs, and don’t we all enjoy a good romantic story? This is lovers’ rock at its finest, with the emphasis on rock. Also rocking, All Is Vanity teaches the lesson that “the unexpected happens every day, even when you pray.” The album closes with a bouncing instrumental version of It’s Not Easy, leaving the listener tapping a foot and humming along with the horn parts long after it ends. Available on iTunes and through ebreggae.com.

Surrendering To Jah's Love
Oh, Jah! I am so aware of my human frailty and yet
overwhelmed by your love for me! I am so grateful that there is no human
experience or place where your love cannot reach me.
If I climb the highest mountain you are there and
in the darkest valley of my life, you are also there. Help me learn today to love
you more. Help me to rest in that love that asks nothing more than the
simple trusting heart of a child. Amen.
