HAROLD AND MAUDE - Classic Romance for Valentine's Day!
 |
Considered by many to be one of the greatest and most beloved films of all time, director Hal Ashby’s “Harold and Maude” is one of the most unique love stories ever told. Alternately touching, romantic, and side-splittingly hilarious, is has grown to become one of those few films that is both a cult classic – programmed at colleges and midnight screenings across the country – and a bona fide cinematic treasure, celebrated by critics and film historians, and finding its place on one “Funniest Films” and “Most Romantic Films” list after another.
Bud Cort and Ruth Gordon – both of whom received Golden Globe nominations for their performances – star as depressed, neurotic Harold and sprightly, eccentric Maude, two spirits with diametrically opposed views on the world who come together to form one of cinema’s most beautiful friendships. Accented by Cat Stevens’ acclaimed soundtrack, Harold and Maude share their philosophies, passions, and pains as they wander throughout various beautiful Northern California settings.
Famously starring accomplished stage actress Vivan Pickles as the scene-stealing Mrs. Chasen – a role for which she will probably always be best remembered – “Harold and Maude” excels and transcends at every turn; it elevates and devastates in equal turns, and is peerless in its ability to make a profound existential journey seem like a stroll in a park on a breezy afternoon.
Friday, February 12 @ Midnight at the Historic Art Theatre of Long Beach 2025 E 4th Street, Long Beach CA 90814
