Mission Creek Clean Up

Mission Creek at Oak Park
Saturday, August 12, 2006
10:00 a.m. - noon

Join other community volunteers to help clean-up Mission Creek at Oak Park, the last event in a series of summer clean-ups coordinated by the Creeks Division and Community Environmental Council.�Volunteers have so far�removed over 400 lbs. of trash and 20 bags of invasive weeds from local creeks and beaches.

Old Mission Creek & Bohnett Park Community Clean-Up

Thursday, August 17, 5:30-7:00pm
Bohnett Park is�at San Pascual and W. Anapamu

Join Westside neighbors and help clean-up Bohnett Park and Old Mission Creek. Pizza and drinks will be provided for volunteers.

Do you live on the Westside? We are also looking for volunteers to post flyers around the neighborhood. Call Jessica at 897-2606 if you can help.

Eastside Neighborhood Clean-Up

Saturday, August 26, 9:00 a.m.-noon

Join Looking Good Santa Barbara, volunteers from 12 local churches, neighbors and Creeks Division staff for this neighborhood clean-up.� Two of the five clean-up locations will be at creek stewardship sites and activities will include weeding, planting native plants and mulching. To volunteer for�a creek stewardship�site you can meet at one of the�following locations:

* 1200 Block of Cacique St. (Cacique and Canada)
* Punta Gorda at the bridge over Sycamore Creek (nearest cross street is Canada)

The Creeks Division and City TV are working on a water quality program series and are looking for stories

UPDATE: Arroyo Burro Estuary

The Arroyo Burro Estuary and Mesa Creek Restoration project is well underway. The culvert has�been removed and the new Mesa Creek channel constructed. Last Friday a� pedestrian bridge was raised over the creek to connect a footpath leading from Arroyo Burro Beach to the Douglas Family Preserve (to open to the public this fall). This project to daylight and restore Mesa Creek will conclude with the planting of 6,000 native trees and plants this fall.

Steven's Park Stewardship

In partnership with Santa Barbara Beautiful and the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden, the Creeks Division is planning a stewardship project along San Roque Creek at Steven's Park. The�project will involve several� planting days and education about native plants, how to plant them and why they are beneficial next to creeks.�Contact Jessica at 897-2606�to learn more.
