ERIC BIBB : : An Evening With Eric Bibb
Eric Bibb�s first live CD ever, AN EVENING WITH ERIC BIBB has just been released.
The Grammy/ W.C. Handy nominated artist fuses blues and folk to make a sound all his own. The 14 song recording features delicious covers as well as Eric�s own songs.
Eric was born in New York into a musical family. Eric's father, Leon Bibb, was a trained singer who sang in musical theatre and made a name for himself as part of the 1960's New York folk scene. His uncle was the world famous Jazz pianist and composer John Lewis, of the Modern Jazz Quartet. Family friends included Pete Seeger, Odetta and actor/singer/activist Paul Robeson, Eric's godfather.
Eric has appeared on major TV and radio shows including "Later with Jools Holland" and "The Late Late Show". Eric and his band have played at most of the world�s major festivals including Glastonbury (twice) and the Cambridge Folk Festival in the UK. He joined Robert Cray on two U.S. tour stints in 2001 and 2002 and opened for Ray Charles in the summer of 2002. Since the beginning of 2006 Eric has toured Australia, the USA from Montana down to New Mexico, Canada, and through much of Europe.

ANDERS OSBORNE : : Coming Down
New Orleans sensation Anders Osborne�s first studio recording in over five years has just been released. On COMING DOWN Anders sings about his two great loves, his wife and New Orleans. The new CD finds the Anders in a sparse setting that showcases his songwriting. One of the highlights of the CD is the song �Katrina.� Anders and his family moved backed to New Orleans six weeks after the devastating hurricane. Recorded in Nashville and New Orleans, Coming Down was co-produced by Anders and Troy Verges (BMI country songwriter of the year). The music is all roots, all New Orleans.
Anders Osborne was born in 1966 in Uddevalla, Sweden. Anders left home at age sixteen and hitchhiked south. He spent the years that followed working odd jobs and playing music throughout Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, Asia, then across the U.S. and eventually ending up in Louisiana in 1985. New Orleans was a perfect match for Osborne, with its mixture of Afro/Euro culture, vibrant lifestyle and welcoming attitude, the city was reminiscent of the stories told by his grandfather, a lifelong sailor and resident of New Orleans during the twenties, thirties, and forties. Anders remembers his grandfather�s stories of travelers, seekers, and eccentric people from all around the world meeting up in the colorful port towns like New Orleans Osborne�s songs have been recorded by artists like Keb� Mo�, Tab Benoit, Double Trouble, Dr John, Big Chief Monk Boudreaux and many others who have garnered Anders� Grammy Awards for songwriting and producing.

STACY MITCHHART : : Gotta Get the Feeling Back Again
Stacy Mitchhart has built a worldwide fan base thanks to dynamic live performances playing his brand of blues-based music, national television exposure, radio airplay, loyal enthusiastic fans and aggressive marketing and merchandising campaigns. His masterful guitar work and strong vocals have been the driving forces behind his successful career. He has won numerous industry awards, released eight CDs and one DVD/CD and actively tour the US and abroad. GOTTA GET THE FEELING BACK AGAIN is his ninth release and first interactive CD.

Mick Jagger & Keith Richards Don't Know Their Own Songs
|
Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood has to teach Mick Jagger and Keith Richards how to play their own songs - because they often forget them. The 60-year-old musician joined the band in 1976 but insists he is more familiar with the hits than his band mates.
He writes in his new memoir, Ronnie, "Even these days while rehearsing for a tour, Mick or Keith will play something and I'll tell them, 'It doesn't go like that, it goes like this. Come on guys, you wrote the f**king thing," and Keith will shout back, 'Just because I wrote it, that doesn't mean I know it.' So for me, the music was the easiest part of becoming a Rolling Stone."

Blues Bank Collective awarded Grant to form Student Band
|
The Blues Bank Collective (BBC) has been awarded a New Hampshire State Council on the Arts Project Grant, in cooperation with the National Endowment on the Arts, for the purpose of forming a student blues and jazz band. The Blues Bank Collective, under the direction of Artistic Director TJ Wheeler will hold auditions for the student band. Students in grades 7 through 12 may audition. Interested students should call Artistic Director TJ Wheeler, 603-929-0654, or BBC President David Drapcho, 603-433-4771, to schedule an audition.
Drapcho explained that �students will be expected to be serious musicians and will have the opportunity to serve the greater community as blues ambassadors through their music�playing nursing homes, schools, libraries and events that promote education and diversity. The last BBC student band, �The Funky River Band�, did this faithfully for ten years. We expect this band to practice diligently and be ready to perform within a few months.�
Wheeler, who has traveled throughout the world, is insistent that these students receive a �mind, body, and soul education�not only learning to technically play the music, but give it a soul by exploring the historical African American roots and overall context the music grew out of. �
All students will be expected to pay a nominal fee to participate in the program, although need-based scholarships will be available. The BBC�s policy is that no talented student will be turned away because of financial need.

Martin Scorsese On Board To Make George Harrison Movie
|
Martin Scorsese has signed to make a movie about late Beatle George Harrison. The film, which will be shot later this year and released in cinema's next year, will be produced by Harrison's widow Olivia and feature the guitarist's former bandmates Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, according to Variety.
It will take a documentary format and explore Harrison's faith and music, as well as his movie projects.
Scorsese - who has made documentaries about Bob Dylan and the Rolling Stones - says of the project, "(Harrison's) music and his search for spiritual meaning is a story that still resonates today. I'm looking forward to delving deeper.
Olivia Harrison says, "It would have given George great joy to know that Martin Scorsese has agreed to tell his story. "
George Harrison died in 2001 at the age of 58, after losing a battle with lung cancer.

WWOZ Recordings Donated to Library of Congress
|
WWOZ(FM) had donated 7,000 hours of live jazz and blues recordings spanning 15 years to the Library of Congress.
�The contribution, which comes after Hurricane Katrina�s floodwaters nearly destroyed the station�s primary tape storage facility, will ensure the safety of the station�s collection of historic recordings,� the Library said. Supporting the gift, the Grammy Foundation has awarded WWOZ a $45,000 grant toward the preservation of the collection.
Recordings were made at music festivals, nightclubs and street events and feature various forms of New Orleans�s roots music including jazz, blues, gospel, brass band and zydeco. The content includes an extensive collection of live music dating to 1993 of artists including Professor Longhair, Clifton Chenier and Queen Ida.
Before cataloging and digital preservation, the recordings will be stored in vaults at the new Packard Campus for Audio-Visual Conservation in Culpeper, Va.

ON THE JIMMY REED HIGHWAY coming to Austin City Limits TV on October 27, 2007
|
Omar Kent Dykes and Jimmie Vaughan, whose new CD, ON THE JIMMY REED HIGHWAY, is in the Top 5 on the Billboard magazine blues chart, are bringing their all-star salute to the blues master to national television with a one-hour special on the critically-acclaimed PBS concert series, �Austin City Limits,� airing October 27.
Joining the two for this stellar concert are special guests Kim Wilson, Lou Ann Barton, Delbert McClinton, James Cotton and Gary Clark, Jr., all of whom appear on the new CD. The backing band for the show includes Derek O�Brien on guitar, Ronnie James on bass and Wes Starr on drums.
The high energy show, fueled by the howling vocals of Omar Kent Dykes and the sinewy lead guitar work of Jimmie Vaughan, features performances of most of the songs from the new CD, including such Jimmy Reed favorites as �Baby What You Want Me to Do,� �Bright Lights Big City,� �Big Boss Man,� �Good Lover,� �Caress Me Baby,� and �Hush Hush,� as well a dynamic version of �Bad Boy,� a tune made famous by legendary Reed guitarist Eddie Taylor (whose original version featured Reed on harmonica).
In addition, Dykes, Vaughan and friends perform two songs not included on the new CD: �High and Lonesome,� one the first songs Reed recorded for Vee-Jay Records in 1953 (the label for which he would record for its entire 13-year run); and a rousing version of �Ain�t That Loving You Baby� featuring a twin vocal/harmonica attack by Delbert McClinton and Kim Wilson. The grand finale performance of �Jimmy Reed Highway� features the entire cast onstage performing a mighty blues jam powered by the triple-harmonica threat of McClinton, Wilson and blues legend James Cotto.

HOUSTON BLUES FESTIVAL POSTPONED
Houston Blues Festival has had to be postponed indefinitely. Due to unforseen circumstances with major sponsorship, we will have to cancel, but will reschedule as soon as we have everything back in place. Looking at same time frame in 2008.
PLANNING UNDERWAY FOR THE ROOTS MUSIC ASSOCIATION FESTIVAL
Planning for the Roots Music Association�s inaugural Convention, Radio Seminar and Music Festival is now underway which will take place June 26-29, 2008 in San Antonio in the middle of the beautiful Hill Country of Texas.
RMA is the fastest growing international music association that actively promotes, supports and celebrates roots music. The RMA is committed to providing an international voice and forum for all roots based music formats in an alliance that will strive for the advancement of independent artists and will continue to encourage radio stations to play music outside of mainstream Top 40 charts. We strive to work in collaboration with any association or entity that shares our goals and vision towards the advancement of roots music.
Organizers are excited about the support the event is receiving from all corners of the music industry and business community and promises to be a memorable one with great music, special guests and a multitude of memory making moments.
�The interest in our very first event is extremely high and we�re working to pull out all the stops. It�ll be a memorable time for everyone who attends. We�ve got some great talent lined up and some very exciting tricks up our sleeves as well!� says Robert Bartosh, one of the organization�s founding directors.
The 3 day event will also include a series of interactive and educational panels, a trade fair, once in a lifetime events and networking opportunities geared toward all facets of the music industry.
The radio seminar portion of the event will draw an international panel of music programmers and personalities to discuss issues and concerns pertinent to the broadcasting industry.
The convention stream will provide opportunities for artists, musicians and industry professionals to network and educate each other through a series of interactive panels and presentations.
The music festival will provide multiple stages which showcase performers to both the conference and seminar attendees as well as the general public. Expect to hear music from artists that range from established headliners to exciting up and coming newcomers across a multitude of roots based genres including, but not limited to, Blues, Bluegrass, Americana/Country, Western Swing, Western, Roots Rock, Reggae, Folk, Cajun/Zydeco and Tejano. The initial lineup of performers will be announced soon.
The theme for the 2008 is �Music United� and speaks to the holistic, inclusive and universal approach the RMA uses to support its membership base and their collective vision. The event will be attended by radio broadcasters, promoters, publicist, artists, musicians, songwriters, label executives and more.
The Convention and Music Festival will be held at the Alzafar Shrine Center in San Antonio. The center is located on approximately 20 wooded acres, at the edge of the Texas Hill Country.
The RMA is honored at the opportunity presented to work with the Shrine organization towards their end goals of supporting children and their families. There are approximately 410,000 Shriners now across the United States, Mexico and Canada. There are 22 Shriners Hosptials for Children � 18 orthopaedic hospitals, three burn hospitals and one hospital that provides orthopaedic, burn and spinal injury care. These hospitals have cured or substantially helped more than 600,000 children � at no cost to parent or child � since the first Shriners Hospital opened in 1922.

NEWS FROM DETROIT, MICHIGAN
Memphis Smoke and the Detroit Blues Society are proud to announce that they will be hosting a benefit show on Friday, October 19th featuring multiple Blues Music Award Nominee and Intrepid Artists performer, Watermelon Slim and the Workers. The show will begin at 9 pm and is a benefit for the Detroit Blues Society and its many programs, including the Kids Affected By Cancer Guitar Program with Music Mentors, Gilda's Club, Latino Family Services, and Children's Hospital of Michigan.
Slim will take the stage at approximately 10:30 pm, but additional special musical guests, from Annie C. Oakley Management Company in Nashville, Bart Walker from Nashville and Christy Howard from Detroit will appear beginning at 9pm.

DUKE ROBILLARD:Previews his CD -- WORLD FULL OF BLUES
  Guitarist Duke Robillard formed "Roomful of Blues" in 1967. Since then he has enjoyed a successful solo career, as well as being a producer and session player for the likes of Bob Dylan, Ruth Brown and John Hammond, to name just a few. Duke's new solo album is a two-disc set called WORLD FULL OF BLUES and it explores the many facets of the Duke Robillard sound.
