Reggae Academy Awards Set to Take Place February 24th
|
The first REGGAE ACADEMY AWARDS ceremony is set to unfold on Sunday February 24th at the National Indoor Sports Centre in Kingston Jamaica. The REGGAE ACADEMY is a project of the Recording Industry Association of Jamaica/RIAJam which is made up of just over thirty music companies doing business inside Jamaica and internationally.
Earlier this year RIAJam officially launched its REGGAE ACADEMY which is a membership group made up of music producers, vocalists, songwriters, music video producers, media representatives, artist managers and agents. RIAJam chairman Clevie Browne explains that the staging of a first class international music awards event for Reggae and Dancehall was identified as a priority activity by his board of directors and the organization when it was established four years. He stated that the objective is to celebrate and recognize creative excellence in a format that will allow for judging and voting by persons directly involved in performing, making and promoting Reggae around the world. The members of the REGGAE ACADEMY will decide on the recordings and artists to be considered for nomination and will also vote to determine what projects and artists are the best for the year 2007. Interested industry persons are still able to sign up for membership to the REGGAE ACADEMY.
While work continues on building the membership of the REGGAE ACADEMY a professional production team has also been engaged by RIAJam to deal with the planning and staging of the awards show on February 24th 2008. According to chairman of the REGGAE ACADEMY Lloyd Stanbury, plans are at a very advanced stage for the event. The design and technical elements of the show are being worked out, and several top artists have already signed contracts to appear as performers and award presenters on the show. These include Shaggy, Sean Paul, Morgan Heritage, Elephant Man, Diana King, Ky-Mani Marley, Ce'Cile, Etana, Assassin, and Voise Mail. In addition to the artists already confirmed the organisers are also looking at a number of overseas based artists who have been involved in Reggae and Dancehall music such as Gentleman out of Germany, Sinead O'Connor, Sean Kingston and Collie Budz.

Overproof Soundsystem Tour
|
Bench Music announces tour dates for Overproof Soundsystem and G.Corp in Australia and New Zealand.
Overproof Soundsystem started its life in 1998 as a monthly reggae night called "Overproof" held at the Medicine bar in Birmingham, England. The night was started by Different Drummer's Richard Wittingham (Rockers Hi Fi) Adam Regan (Leftfoot) and Birmingham's dub duo G.Corp.
Now New Zealand and Australia get to witness these dub reggae fiends erupt on stage their energy and exuberance live is a must see for any reggae head - full of life and ready to let rip for the masses. With that in mind, Overproof are not to be tied down to one genre, the music policy is anything reggae or reggae influenced, from old school sixty's cuts to modern Dub to Hip Hop and Electronica.
They bring with them the mighty Conrad Kelly on percussion, long time Steel Pulse drummer who has also drummed for many reggae greats including Freddy MC Gregor, I Jahman Levi and UB40.
Underground anthem Watch what you put inna and a re rub of Kraftworks The Model are just two of the tasty delights in a 90 min set expressing peace and good vibes.
The tour will be supported at selected shows by the Groove Corporation DJ set which are currently a sought after remixing team.
G.Corp flex their shred-cut-reconstruct muscle over classic tracks by Bob Marley, Dillinger, UB40, Luciano, Rae and Christian, Bobby Womack and Ennio Morricone, and Tosca, as well as many other gems from their elephant house studio.
Groove Corporation shamelessly mix soul, funk, roots into unavoidable bass powered dance grooves where the beats dig deep but never overwhelm.
Overproof will also be performing tracks from their upcoming LP Pull it up released in early 2008. Tour dates are as follows, and tickets to be available from all usual outlets.
Sat Feb 9: Splore Festival Tapapakanga Regional Park Thurs Feb 14: Revolver Queenstown - with Renegade Soundsystem Fri Feb 15: Sammys relaunch Dunedin - with Renegade Soundsystem and more TBA Sat Feb 16: Soundsplash Festival Raglan - with G.Corp DJ Set
