Shane Dwight : : What You Need

While performing over 170 shows throughout the US in 2007, Shane and his band still were able to find the time to record their fifth CD titled “What You Need”.

After winning the Monterey Blues Festival “Battle of the Bands” in 2002, Shane’s career catapulted into the forefront of the West Coast Blues scene. As the San Francisco Chronicle put it: “ Shane is fast becoming The Blues Sensation of the West Coast”.

Before long, word spread and Shane was making a name for himself throughout the country. “Shane is a Great vocalist and One Hot guitarist”, stated Dan Aykroyd as he featured Shane on his internationally syndicated “House of Blues” radio show.

Shane has sold over 45,000 CD’s from venue sales while performing in festivals in Florida, Nevada, Washington, Oregon, Oklahoma and California. Shane’s previous CD, “Come See Me” has received rave reviews such as this one in Southland Blues Magazine… “This album holds a position at the TOP of our ten best…”

“What You Need” is a mix of original songs written by Shane, as well as some great blues standards. This CD is very diverse in its song content, ranging from strait forward blues to rock and country blues.

Check it out for yourself. You won’t be disappointed! For more information about Shane Dwight go to www.ShaneDwight.com

His work with musicians from around the world in the past several years has marked him as not only a virtuoso musician and slide guitarist, but also as a pioneer in finding a common thread among global musical cultures.

Bob's newest solo album is POST-INDUSTRIAL BLUES, a collection of bold new tracks. After years of exploring multi-ethnic music styles around the world, Bob returns to his blues and Americana roots, for a brave and honest look at a world in change.

JOHN-ALEX MASON : : Town and Country

John-Alex Mason's new album TOWN AND COUNTRY engages the conversation between past and present, between roots and the fruits, between the town and country in all of us. Mason explores these ideas with danceable grooves, masterful slide work and interpretations of rare old songs that complement slow-core acoustic and rocking one-man band originals. Rooted by his love of Delta, piedmont and Hill Coutnry Blues, Mason delivers stunning solo performances on both his resonator guitar and his electrified one-man band rig. Deep hypnotic vocals and sweet songwriting elevate and unite the 15 tracks.

And here is a blurb coming out in the upcoming issue of Singer and Musician magazine:

"Imagine a place where the air is clean, the temperature is always in the pleasenties, you are surrounded by nice folks and there's a live band that knows you by name. Plus, there are free movies and hot air balloon rides. It's VideoRanch, a virtual world cooked up by Michael Nesmith (One-time member of the Monkees and, more importantly, music video pioneer). Feel free to roam the ranch at your leisure, and then check out the event calendar for upcoming live groups. I popped in on a Sunday afternoon and was immediately greeted by name (my chosen nickname) by the house band, Ranch Dressing (these guys are great!). A bit later, The Refugees took the stage for a full hour live show. Other performers have included The John Jorgenson Quintet, Eliza Gilkyson, James McMurtry, Laurence Juber, Laura Love, Mumbo Gumbo, The Greencards, Ledward Kaapana, Tony Furtado and Jason Nesmith. What makes this so unique is that the band is actually playing in real time from a studio. And, as they know who is coming and going, they can interact with you (actually, your avatar). It's very much like just hanging with some friends and listening to some great music is in an intimate, outdoor atmosphere. And, after the band has gone home, you can stroll the ranch's tree-lined cobblestone walk-ways in search of some interesting and fun surprises or even get a look at the virtual facility from in the sky onboard a hot air-balloon."

Please Mark Your Calendars For Another Mississippi Blues Trail Marker

On Thursday, January 31, 2008 at 4:00 PM, MDA Tourism Heritage Trails Program, the Mississippi Blues Commission and the City of Hazlehurst will honor blues legend, Robert Johnson.

The ceremony will take place at the historic train depot located at 138 N. Ragsdale Road in downtown Hazlehurst, MS.

Robert Johnson's reputation as one of the most prominent Blues pioneers is exceeded only by the myths that surround the origins of his musical career," Governor Barbour said. "We don't know if he made a deal with the devil, but one thing is certain: Robert Johnson's innovative sound and soulful Blues rhythm makes him a perfect recipient for this designation of a second Blues Trail Marker in his honor."

We are delighted that Claud Johnson (son of Robert Johnson) and his family will be present to receive this honor! Please join us for this wonderful event!

BLIND PIG SIGNS KENNY NEAL

Blind Pig Records has announced the signing of multi-instrumentalist and modern swamp-blues master Kenny Neal. Recording sessions have recently been completed for LET LIFE FLOW, Kenny’s first album since 2005, and a release is planned for later this year.

For the past few years, health problems forced Kenny away from the studio and touring, and LET LIFE FLOW finds him returning with a renewed vigor and outlook on life. Recorded in West Columbia, SC, Kenny’s new album reflects his optimistic sense of perseverance, set to the soulful, deep grooves that have garnered him a solid fan base over the past 20 years.

Commenting on his return to recording and performing, Kenny said: “With all the tragedy and darkness I’ve been through in the past three years, I’m finally seeing the light. I’ve been waiting for a long time for a record company to say ‘Make a record that you feel good about.’ Blind Pig Records gave me that oppor tunity. And my new CD, LET LIFE FLOW, is coming straight from my heart. Hope everyone enjoys it.”

B.B. King heads lineup at this year's Monterey Bay Blues Festival

Performers at the Monterey Bay Blues Festival this June will be riding ahead of The King — 82-year-old blues icon B.B. King.

King, who has been singing and playing the blues since the 1940s, will close the festival's Sunday night show with his first appearance since 1991 at the Monterey Fairgrounds blues blowout.

The festival announced all but a few of the featured performers scheduled for the Pattee Arena main stage during the three-day event. The lineup includes veteran blues artists Taj Mahal and James Cotton, along with up-and-coming blues artists including 21-year-old guitarist Joe Bonamassa and The Homemade Jamz Blues Band from Tupelo, MS.

Festival organizers have made an effort to return to a more blues-dominated lineup that will kick off at the Friday night show with the first Monterey festival appearance by critically acclaimed guitarist and vocalist James Blood Ulmer.

"We're returning to a mostly blues format and also have made a concerted effort not to bring anyone back that has played in the last few years," Sandine said.

Making the 23rd blues festival bluesier and fresher were strong suggestions made by festival patrons, she said.

"They said, 'Blues all the time, show us new, young acts and freshen things up,'" Sandine said.

Other acts that will help keep things stirred up include soul singer Bettye LeVette, whose 2007 album The Scene of the Crime is up for a Grammy, Delta blues standard-bearer Keb'Mo', and gospel vocalists The Blind Boys of Alabama.

This year's festival runs June 27-29.

The complete festival lineup will be announced March 18. Tickets will go on public sale March 28.
