CALIFORNIA WORLDFEST NOT AFFECTED BY FIRE
|
12TH ANNUAL California WorldFest July 17-20 at the Fairgrounds, Grass Valley
Much thanks to everyone who has emailed, called, or sent us smoke signals inquiring about WorldFest and the effects the California fires were having on the festival site. We are very pleased to say that, thanks to all the great work by the firefighters, WorldFest is on, and we are in the midst of preparing everything for a true celebration. We are thankful for the tremendous efforts by all the firefighters to save the homes of our friends, the beautiful forests, and the fabulous Grass Valley Fairgrounds, home of WorldFest #12. Camping tickets and day tickets are available and we will have some onsite for last minute decisions. See you soon at WorldFest for great music under the full moon, and camping under the tall pines and oaks. Come celebrate with us in the beauty of the Sierra Foothills ~ and, thank you firefighters!

SUMFEST TO GO BEYOND MIDNIGHT
|
|
Reggae Sumfest, the premier Jamaican reggae festival, has been given the go-ahead to stage the one-week event beyond the midnight cut-off time on weekdays and 2 a.m on weekends.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the St James police hierarchy, following a directive from the Minister of National Security, Colonel Trevor MacMillan, whose ministry declared Reggae Sumfest a national festival, having met certain criteria.
He said the Sumfest closing time could have become an issue because the new administration might not have been fully aware of the huge economic spin-off for the country.
Russell also said other promoters and event planners should endeavour that their shows meet the criteria as a national festival to qualify them for extended hours.

JAHMARK AND THE SOULSHAKERS:
Before Jahmark & the Soulshakers were formed Jahmark was one of the founding members of Redemption Posse. They took the honors for Best Songwriter and Best Performer in the 1986 Jamaica Festival Song Competition competing against such icons as Stanley & the Turbines, the Jamaicans, Faith DAguilar and Tinga Stewart to name a few. That same year they backed up and coming DJ Tiger on his first major public outing at the Jamaica Sunsplash Beach Party.
In 1987 they were approached by a Japanese promoter, Katsuya Abe, to play in Japan on a six month contract after he had seen them at S.O.B.s in Manhattan performing with Leroy Sibbles of the mighty Heptones. After their contract was up half of the band returned to New York while the rest stayed in Tokyo.
In 1988 Jahmark & the Soulshakers were born at first consisting of all Japanese musicians. In 1989 they had recorded a song entitled UNITY at CBS Sony Studio in Tokyo along with Sly & Robbie and Tyrone Downie of the Wailers for a compilation CD of the same name. This was followed by another compilation CD entitled JUS PASSIN THRU, and later came their full length debut CD tribute to Nelson Mandela simply entitled VIVA MANDELA.
By 1991 Jahmark had re-located to Los Angeles where he re-shaped the Soulshakers band and performed at such venues as the San Diego Street Scene, Oxnard Reggae Jam on the Coast, Hemet Reggae Fest, and on and on. They played alongside such artists as the Wailers, Third World, Pato Banton, Wailing Souls, Eek-a-Mouse, Jimmy Cliff, Lucky Dube, etc. often stealing the show.
Jahmark has appeared on two compilation CDs since in L.A., THUMPN REGGAE JAMZ and REGGAE WORSHIP, vol II. By 1994 Jahmarks songs OCEAN BLUE (co-written with Peter Wolf who also wrote WE BUILT THIS CITY ON ROCK AND ROLL) and I WANNA ROCK U BABY were chosen for the movie soundtracks WEEKEND AT BERNIES II and MIAMI RHAPSODY respectively.
1997 saw the release of Jahmark & the Soulshakers U.S. debut full length CD release LOVE POWER. In 2000 they entered into a five album exclusive digital download deal with E-Music...these albums comprised of late 80s / early 90s recordings both done in the studio as well as at live venues...They were packaged as BANANA-BOAT ARCHIVES, vol. 1-5 (FREEDOM FIGHTERS, SOULSHAKIN', NEVER TOO LATE, STOP THE WAR, & SAVE THE EARTH), and it reveals the determination and undaunting tenacity of the group's bandleader...
In 2003 they followed up with another smash hit CD entitled LIFE! In 2004 their song LOVE POWER was chosen to be in the soundtrack of the Canadian indie film, RASTAFARIAN DREAMS.
2005 found Jahmark & the Soulshakers in the studio laying down tracks once again, this time for their up-coming third U.S. release, MISCONCEPTION.
In 2006 Jahmark & the Soulshakers were voted as the winners in the "Best World Music" category of the SCMAs (Southern California Music Awards).
While in the recording studio working on MISCONCEPTION, the album (over the course of the past two years) has evolved into a 30 song double album labor of love titled "BOOK of the GREAT MISCONCEPTION", and it will be released in the Summer of 2007...
Jahmark & the Soulshakers sound has evolved into a very cutting edge, innovative, new millennium form of up-tempo roots rock reggae with just the right amount of laid back cuts for the nostalgic roots lovers. Definitely fresh and original, definitely timeless music, definitely SOULSHAKIN!!!

Prayer To Jah
Father today I cry to thee
Let not my enemies over come me Every day they are growing more stronger They have set their traps up all around me But the hotter the battle the sweeter the victory For who God bless no man shall curse I know one day I get my reward When I see them come falling at my feet
But I won't do like them For I'm a righteous man I will show them the good man should do showing them We are one skin one blood So we should love one another and things will be better
I know, I know things will be better Say if you give love a try Yes people unite Say if you give love a try..............
