JACKIE PAYNE, STEVE EDMONSON BAND : : OVERNIGHT SENSATION
Although they?ve only recently been getting widespread attention, Jackie Payne and Steve Edmonson have a history together that goes back almost ten years. They first met when they were members of the popular show band, The Dynatones. They soon found that they had a common love for the blues. While touring together they developed a friendship and camaraderie that is clearly evident when you see them perform together. You can hear their common love for the music in every note that Jackie & Steve sing and play.

The dynamic duo return to the spotlight with yet another soul/blues gem on their latest recording "Overnight Sensation." But don't let the album title fool you; these two have been at it for years honing their skills and perfecting their craft with countless appearances on stages at festivals and clubs around the globe including a three month stint in Thailand, right after the big tsunami of 2004.

On their sophomore effort for Delta Groove, Jackie Payne and Steve Edmonson demonstrate once again their mastery of the fine art of timeless Rhythm & Blues delivered with style and flair that recall the classic sounds of Wilson Pickett, Otis Redding and Bobby "Blue" Bland. ?Overnight Sensation? is a terrific example of this dynamic and wickedly tight band, which also features bassist Bill Singletary and drummer Nick Otis, along with the ?Sweet Meet Horns? consisting of Carl Green on tenor and alto sax and Lech Wierzynski on trumpet, as they take an explosive romp through another sweaty set of Gospel, Soul, Blues and R&B.

FIONA BOYES/MOOKIE BRILL/RICH DELGROSSO : : LIVE FROM BLUESVILLE

In Blues & Roots music there is a tantalizing tension between traditional structures and the continual reinvention that comes with each new generation of players. There are so many styles and histories from which to draw - and each player brings their own particular influences and sensibilities to their performance. In that spirit, Live From Bluesville offers the listener an experience of respect for tradition and daring originality. Seasoned players and multi-award winning artists in their own right, Fiona Boyes, Tom 'Mookie' Brill, and Rich DelGrosso, following a session on Beale St. Memphis, during the 2007 Blues Music Awards, decided to further explore the spaces where their respective musical influences and passions meet. This album is the result.

Fiona, Mookie, and Rich, at the urging of producer Steve Clarke and Bill Wax, Program Director for XM Satellite Radio Bluesville , Washington, DC, ventured into the XM studios in August, 07. Armed only with mutual musical respect and a growing friendship, completely lacking in formal rehearsal or actual combined performance history, they?d made rough plans about what they would play on the drive across the Appalachian Mountains from West VA to DC. Four hours later they emerged with this album. It is a traditional recording, in that there are no dubs, multiple sessions or takes. It is a true live recording, not formally rehearsed, and with a song list determined by their inspirations at the time.

Musical journeys are also personal histories. Fiona's seminal encounter with the Blues came through listening to pre-war recordings of Hill-country and Delta artists, back in her native Australia, and it led to her now being acknowledged by Pinetop Perkins and Hubert Sumlin as one of the great blueswomen of her generation. Likewise with Mookie. He reflects - "One day when I was about 10 or 11 I heard Lightning Hopkins on the radio. This ushered my downward spiral into the musicianers life! I went out and bought The Blues Giant Lightning Hopkins for $1.99. I still have it!" From listening to his heroes, Mookie has gone on to perform and record with greats like Pinetop and Hubert, John Brim, Louisiana Red, Bob Margolin, and Willie Smith.

Rich counts himself blessed to have learned and played with mandolin heroes Yank Rachell, Howard Armstrong, and Johnny Young, spanning Blues as well as string band traditions. He is described by Howling Wolf's biographer as "the greatest living blues mandolin man and the best since Yank Rachell."

So, here you have it ? a unique take on traditional acoustic blues, where Boyes, Brill, and DelGrosso seek to honor the legacies of Howlin' Wolf, Arthur 'Big Boy' Crudup, JB Lenoir, Sonny Boy Williamson, and Yank Rachell, while adding their own contributions to this living tradition we call THE BLUES.

DANNY BROOKS : : NO EASY WAY OUT
In his first Rockin' Camel Music release, "No Easy Way Out", Danny Brooks takes the listener on a musical ride through the pages of his own life. From a father who told him music was evil down a path of self-destruction, the emotion in Danny's songs tells the story of a man who has been to the bottom and found his way back up. And Danny Brooks has a story to tell! His soon to be released book "Miracles for Breakfast" is a no holds barred look at a lifetime of hard knocks and bad choices with a happy ending. Although Brooks is from Canada, he's got Delta blood flowing through his veins and, with a voice dripping with passion and Southern soul, Danny's singing is reminiscent of Eddie Hiinton, Soloman Burke and Howlin' Wolf rolled into one. It doesn't get any better than that. You won't want to miss this one!!

18TH DUSK TIL DAWN BLUES FESTIVAL TRIBUTE TO D.C. MINNER COMING SOON-
What a way to wrap up the summer! Dance under the stars or sit in air conditioned comfort. 3 stages, thirty five bands from 10 states – 50 sets – 65 hours of music in all - the world's largest back yard party!

Bands presented at Rentiesville run the gamut from young guns (4 groups age 13 - 23) who rely on ‘fire’ to get over straight through to the old timers of the genre who roar or finesse their way through… and every stripe in between.

2008 won't be quite the same with D.C. Minner gone, so it will be a tribute to its founder.

Several of the bands will cover some of Minner's originals keeping his blues alive in the best way possible. 'No moments of silence, please!!' - D.C.

“Everything about Dusk Til Dawn is a ‘family’ affair. Started by D.C. and Selby, the extended ‘family’ includes 12 Board Members, over 100 volunteers, and thousands of dedicated fans. Many returning each year since the very beginning (1991).

"Vendors sell t-shirts, jewelry, barbeque, fried fish, candy, ice cream, and even ‘fried pies.’ The Kid’s Village sprouts up around an old school bus. Kids stay busy with Face painting, costumes, ‘dragons’, puppets, clay pottery, and harmonica classes, made lovingly available by a group of exceptional volunteers. These are all hands-on activities, keeping young minds occupied while the hypnotic sounds of blues slowly soak into the young minds that will be the future of the blues. This Kid’s Village is unlike anything we’ve seen before!!!” reported Cheryl of Blues Festival Guide and Tom Yearnshaw after visiting the event. But - the juke joint is adults only!

"World Tour" will be the first "Guitar Hero" to feature playable drums and a microphone.

Experience Hendrix provided Activision and Red Octane with various songs from Hendrix, who famously played the Woodstock music festival in 1969 and died of a drug overdose in 1970. Other Hendrix tunes would be released in the future as downloadable content for the game, Grant said.

BREAKFREE GUITAR CONNECTORS
You're on stage, in the middle of your first song. The band's tight. The sound's dialed in. The audience is grooving. But you--idiot guitarist--forgot to do the Stevie Ray Vaughan trick of tucking your cable up through your strap, so instead it's running straight down to the floor, next to your feet. Excited, you take a step forward to pose for your friends in the front row and step right on your cord. It comes out with an ear-splitting pop and buzz. The bass player rolls his eyes as you get down on the stage, pick the end of the cable back up, plug it back into your guitar--another loud pop--and finish the solo. Momentum lost. Show ruined. Chances of rock stardom zero.

Belkin's got the solution: BreakFree connectors. They're magnetic! They can't prevent you from stepping on your cord, but when you do there's no pop, no buzz, and you can reattach them very quickly. They're also excellent for guitarists who like to change axes between songs, but lack the roadies or foresight to do the busy work of turning on the bypass each time. Plus, you're less likely to damage your input jack after hundreds of plugs and unplugs--and there are few things worse than an input jack failing on stage.

DELTA BLUES MUSEUM
Note From the Museum Director :

Greetings from Clarksdale! I hope everyone is enjoying the summer and taking time to slow down, relax and visit with loved ones. Even though the July heat here demands a slower pace, there has been plenty of activity here at the museum. The expansion is coming along steadily and should start to gain steam in the fall now that the soil and site surveys have been completed, so stay tuned.

I am pleased to announce a new position, administrative assistant, that has been added to our small but hard-working staff. We had a slew of applicants and I am happy to welcome Shelley Ricker to Clarksdale and the museum. With more than 30 years' experience working with non-profit organizations, Shelley brings a wealth of knowledge and skill to our table.

As museum director, I attend many museum and blues-related conferences and seminars, and I recently attended an outstanding one: The first-ever "Blues and the Spirit" symposium on the legacy of blues and gospel music, which was hosted by Dominican University in Chicago, was a big success and I was able to meet with several scholars from around the country who have expressed interest in working with the museum on future projects.

We've also been awarded an $18,000 grant from the Mississippi Arts Commission. This grant is a portion of the $1.2 million in grants the Commission will award in 2008-2009 and will be used to support the museum's exhibits, programs and general operations. The grants are made possible by continued funding from the Mississippi State Legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts.
