Next month, the performer is scheduled to roll out a 38-city tour that stops by clubs and theaters across the US as well as Toronto and Montreal through mid-December. Matisyahu, who is constantly lauded for his energetic live performance, fuses Orthodox Judaism, classic reggae and hip-hop to get across his message of peace and unity. The Grammy-nominated artist considers his music career a revolutionary way to channel his spiritual calling.
Later this month, Ovation TV will make Matisyahu the subject of an episode of "Bonefish Grill's Notes from the Road." The one-hour program, which will include live performances and candid conversations with the artist, is set to premiere Sept. 25 and run through early October.

DON'T MISS ALL REBEL ROCKERS
|
article excerpted from jambase.com
There is a noticeable change of intention on Michael Franti & Spearhead's latest album, All Rebel Rockers (released September 9 on Anti Records). Yes, there are certainly songs about the state of the world with the fiery, thought provoking lyrics and brilliant social observations that have made Franti famous. But ultimately, Rockers is a highly danceable, reggae drenched album intended to foster a letting go of worries and troubles in its attempt to bring unity through riddim.
Legendary Jamaican producers Sly & Robbie are largely responsible for successfully manifesting of this new vision. The duo's reggae sensibilities are not completely new to the Spearhead sound as they fashioned some tracks on the band's previous album, 2006's Yell Fire! Combining Franti's rebel mentality with the reggae "rockers" sound made famous by Sly and Robbie, All Rebel Rockers flows as a natural progression in the Spearhead evolution.
Infectious hooks, catchy choruses, stellar musicianship, top flight production and a mix of politically relevant and fun lyrics makes All Rebel Rockers another Spearhead gem. The album will doubtlessly provide a soundtrack for your life as summer turns to fall, whether you're in your vehicle, the dancehall or yoga studio. And really, what more could you ask from an album than that? A little bit of riddim makes the world go ‘round, indeed.

MORGAN HERITAGE CONQUERS THE WORLD
|
story exerpted from jamaicaobserver.com
Simply put, Morgan Heritage is taking on the world in a huge way. Assiduous and feverishly focused, the group, which comprises the children of Reggae singer, Denroy Morgan, is on a mission. Actually, their most recent CD is entitled Mission In Progress, but it could equally have been named Mission Being Accomplished.
Quite an easy-going set of Rastafarians, Morgan Heritage has refrained from the condemnatory 'bun dis and bun dat' kind of livity dear to the heart of some of their fellow Rastafari singers (and deejays). It was they who made people stop, look and listen when they offered the insightful "you don't haffi dread to be Rasta, it is not a dreadlocks ting divine conception from the heart".
It was on June 15 that Heritage kicked off their 'World Tour' - with the emphasis on the word 'world'. Quite satisfied with their progress and accomplishments in the US, a country they had not toured in quite a while, the siblings took a short break before heading off to what Una calls a "festival tour of Europe". This saw Heritage in performance at all the major festivals - and there are many - dotted right across Europe.
The group, she noted, finished up the festival tour in Germany at the Cheimsee Festival. "Surrounded by German reggae and hip hop stars, we closed the festival in front of 25,000 people," Una declared. Now back in Jamaica, Heritage will resume their regular bookings until October, when they plan to take the month off, "with the occasional weekend one-off" Una added. Come November, they will be off to Europe, this time for a club tour, which will "take us to Sweden, Norway, Denmark, France, Italy, the Czech Republic, Turkey, Germany, Switzerland, Israel, Portugal, Spain and Holland.
"The Mission In Progress World Tour will go directly to Africa from Europe," Una explained.
She admits that touring is "grueling”, but for these Rasta/Reggae standard bearers, it comes with the territory and is an integral part of their musical mission.

LONG BEACH REGGAE FEST TO BENEFIT THE YOUTH
|
Harmony and unity is the focus for the Reggae Festival scheduled for the PCC from noon to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13. The event has been organized with the intention of donating proceeds to Children Today, a Long Beach charity that provides care, moral values and the possibility of improving the lives of homeless kids in the city.
Any cash donation will admit one entrance to the festival, which has a lineup composed of local and bay area bands set to perform before internationally renowned Pato Banton & The Mystic Roots band.
The Bredrin Daddys, Inhale, Chapter 11, Qwiksand, Nobody Cares and Live at Subs are the other bands on the bill, providing dancehall reggae rhythms and hip hop for all to enjoy.
The event has generated a buzz at LBCC and students are especially motivated to attend because of the effort to reshape the lives of the kids in Children Today.
"These type of charity events demonstrate a lot of generosity and concern for the community," bookstore employee Andrew Argueta said.
Many attractions have been confirmed for this festival including art exhibitions and sales, food and merchants who will sell everything from clothing to music.
For more information contact Oriee at 938-3088 for further accommodations, contact Disabled Students Programs & Services at 938-4558.

JAH ROOTS : : JOY
Jah Roots, “the best live American reggae band,” are playing several festivals this summer in support of their new release entitled JOY - currently CDbaby.com’s second highest selling album! In addition to exploring themes of love and longing, Jah Roots also has a message in many of their new songs, which, in the time-honored tradition of conscious roots-reggae, they are touring tirelessly to impart to the masses. Often their songs expound on themes as varied as the beauty of life or diverge into offering insightful commentary on the chaos unique to our times, and the universal insecurity we as a society endure because of it. Each member of JAH ROOTS takes the delivery of this conscious music very seriously as evidenced by the intensity they bring to each performance.
During the recording of JOY, Jah Roots were joined by legendary Bob Marley & The Wailers guitarist, Junior Marvin! Their collaboration produced two instant reggae classics “Ganja Weed” and “Spliff and My Lady.” Due to their compelling music, this mid-western based group of musicians are rapidly becoming favorites of reggae fans the world over. Jah Roots are best experienced live! Go to www.JahRoots.com for a complete list of concert dates.

LJX : : Two Chord Skankin'
With his debut album, Two Chord Skankin’, Toronto-based reggae singer/guitarist LJX has dropped one of the most satisfying reggae discs of the year so far. Lyndon John X brings fresh energy to roots reggae; his sound strongly recalls Steel Pulse at their peak, with a jazzy flow to his vocals intertwined with his lead guitar lines. He’s an excellent songwriter; his words are well chosen to match his vocal style, and he paints vivid pictures of timeless reggae subject matter such as dancing, oppression and love. The Two-Chord Skankin’ album comes as advertised, and these bright sounds are perfect for reggae lovers everywhere! (c/o David Dacks, Editor of Xclaim Magazine, Toronto Ontario) ** Album was nominated for 2008 Juno Award for Best Reggae Recording and was also nominated for Top Male Newcomer at the Canadian Reggae Music Awards 2008
