DUCKIE SIMPSON SINGS LEAD FOR BLACK UHURU
|
source: Unitedreggae.com
As The World Turns, this is the name of the new Black Uhuru album. Its release is scheduled for the month of October on No Joke Entertainment. This one will be the first since Dynasty released in 2001, and it's Duckie Simpson who will be the lead vocalist.
Even if the band has known different formations, Black Uhuru is a live legend of reggae music. The group was formed in 1974 in Jamaica by Euvin "Don Carlos" Spencer, Rudolph "Garth" Dennis, and Derrick "Duckie" Simpson. Don Carlos left the band to pursue a solo career and Garth Dennis joined The Wailing Souls. Alone, Duckie Simpson was joined by Michael Rose, Errol "Jay" Wilson and the Sly and Robbie duo. They released their first album Love Crisis in 1977. When Sandra "Puma" Jones joined the group in 1978 replacing Errol Wilson, their best albums were released as Showcase, Sinsemilia, Red and Anthem. In 1984, Michael Rose left the band too and was soon replaced by Junior Reid. Black Uhuru, with the bobo as lead vocal released two albums, Brutal and Positive before he also left the band. Because of quarrels, the group teared up then reformed. That's why, after reintegrating the band, Don Carlos then Andrew Bees definitively left the band. Michael Rose returned five years ago and has toured Europe and Africa with Duckie Simpson. But now, Michael is concentrating on his own career.
We will keep you informed about this great news in a few weeks.

He’s recognized and respected at every level-- from ski bums to ski resort CEOs; but most importantly, Fro is our friend. He has given so much to the community and individuals; and his benefit is a way to help him in his time of need,” he added.

The Friends for Fro Benefit includes the resurrection of “In the Mood,” a winter slide show created by Fro and photographers Keoki Flagg and Hank de’Vre – a legendary feast for outdoor adventurers’ eyes and souls. Renegade Productions has pulled out all the stops for this event, scheduling performances by Tahoe/Truckee’s musical all-stars; and a silent auction and raffle not-to-be-missed will present the best prizes and gifts including vacations, California Gold Pass, and fantastic items provided by local favorites. CHERINE ANDERSON TOURS WITH MICHAEL FRANTI!
|
photo courtesy of Nicole Kristek/ Mel.opho.be
On the heels of wrapping a successful 21 date tour of the US in early September, the young Dancehall Soul songstress Cherine Anderson returns to the States again, this time hitting the road with singer/activist Michael Franti and Spearhead. Anderson is touring with the massively popular Franti and Spearhead in support of their September 9th release, All Rebel Rockers, in which Cherine is featured on three songs. The first single off the album, "Say Hey (I Love You)" featuring Cherine, is receiving great radio rotation as well as being featured on ads for the CW and E! Entertainment Networks.
Anderson serves as the band's opening act performing songs from her upcoming EP "The Introduction-dubstyle", and rejoins the band as a featured vocalist during the Spearhead set. Just several shows into joining the tour, Anderson's presence has created a buzz. Nicole Kristek of Mel.Opho.be writes about the show at Marymoor Amphitheatre in Washington, "(Cherine) showed off her range and power with slow "diva"-style vocals mixed over reggae beats. A bit reminiscent of Lauryn Hill but with more funk to her voice, we found her to be extremely charismatic, weaving her sultry way across the stage".
The All Rebel Rockers tour also allowed Cherine the opportunity to perform at The Hollywood Bowl, her second feature at the famed concert hall in her young career. In October, the tour takes Anderson to Australia, her first time taking her Dancehall Soul sound "Down Under". The talented artists bring their powerful shows to ten cities in Australia including Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. A video for the follow up single "Little Bit of Riddim" (song and video also featuring Anderson) was shot on location in Jamaica under the direction of the Ras Kassa, so be on the look out for its premiere!

ALABAMA : : BAMMA
Alabama“ No Love” is the poor-man cry. The song “No Love” shows and tells the tale of the poor man trails and tribulations living in a system that only caters for the rich.
The song emphasizes the importance of faith in his Majesty, Haile Salassie. I the first , and shows that, the most high ‘Jah’ is always there for you in your times of need. ‘ No Love” is the two simple yet powerful words used to describe the state in which the human being as escalated to, the careless killings and robberies that are taking place in my country and around the world.
The fight of one man trying to make it to the top and the resistance he faces everyday by people who just don’t want to see him make it.
The song shows the effects of making wrong decisions and not following the ‘Most High’ words and commandments. In the second verse the artist states ‘Who you fe get it, and na set it, when the youths dem want it” A cry of most ghetto youths in most ghettos around the world, it shows the need to invest in the youth of today, for they are the future. The song is what I see going on day to day not only in Guyana my country, but all over the world.
