SOPHIA BROWN NOMINATED FOR EME AWARDS
Reggae songstress Sophia Brown who hit big last year with Love You Pure has been nominated in the fifth annual EME awards in the Best New Female Artiste category. "I am truly ecstatic and grateful to be nominated for the EME awards. I have been in the business for over 17 years and been representing Jamaica in the art of reggae music internationally, and I am truly honored to be acknowledged by the EME committee for all the work that I have been putting in over the past year," she told 411 in a Statement issued through her publicist. “I must say, this couldn’t have come at a better time now that I am getting Ready to release my debut album. I just want to say thanks to the fans Locally and internationally for making Love You Pure such a big hit.”

Love you pure peaked at #5 on the Jamaica Music Countdown charts and The video was #3 on the CVM hit list while it was also in the Top Ten of the RETV MVP Charts for several weeks. The hit Love you Pure also found its Way in the UK charts for several weeks as well.

Beautiful, Talented and extremely passionate about music would be the best way to describe the 5ft 3ins dynamo vocalist simply styled Sophia Brown. A full-fledged performer by choice, its debatable whether her singing is better than her dancing or vice versa, but make no mistake, as a singer she aims to make an even more definitive mark in both the local and international arenas. "I want to be the first female reggae artiste to win the coveted Grammy Award".

Sophia got her first introduction to the world of entertainment as a dancer and with her exceptional skills as a choreographer, she created dance moves to songs for some of Dancehall’s top pioneers namely Barrington Levy, Little John and Michael Palmer.

A new year now underway Brown has already positioned herself to break mainstream this with a distribution deal from several online music retailers which include Rhapsody.com, Apple I Tunes and Sprint Music Downloads. Her new single "I’m a Rose" is also now out and is featured on an exclusive Cell Block / Music Mecka produced Riddim. The track which was mixed by the great Steven Stanley is the second official single from Brown who has been getting rave reviews and features in top local Magazine Prints like Panache Ja & Buzz Magazine.

"The future for Sophia Brown looks bright (laughs), I believe that I can touch the world with my music. I feel strongly as an artist my responsibility is to differentiate fact from fiction and also do my best to bring people together with positive lyrics".
Look out for debut album this year.

BURNING MUSIC PRODUCTIONS GOING FOR TRUE INDEPENDENCE
Burning Music Productions, the independently owned music company run by and home to Reggae music icon and Grammy-winning recording artist Winston Burning Spear Rodney (O.D.) announces the termination of its digital distribution agreement with San Francisco based IRIS (Independent Recording Industry Services) Distribution as of November 13, 2008 based on agreement breaches by the company. Burning Music Productions was no longer able to continue to work with a company that would hinder its operations with un-fair business practices.

Based on the breaches of the agreement with IRIS Distribution including its continued non-payment of funds due to Burning Music Productions beginning in 2008 to present, the label has separately released the Best Reggae Album Grammy-nominated Burning Spear studio CD release, Jah Is Real. This album and the artist's extensive catalog in the future will be released directly with the online digital services in order to return its normal business operations as sole rights owner of the release catalog. This quest for total independence by Burning Music Productions was a priority after having 12,000 CDs of Burning Spear’s music destroyed by another former distributor without cause.

Burning Spear’s iconic career spans nearly four decades in the music business and is a Grammy winner for his 1999 Calling Rastafari CD. Spear has received a record 11 nominations (most in the Reggae genre) for his releases to date, and numerous other awards worldwide for his music releases and live performances.

EASY STAR ALL-STARS DO IT AGAIN!
EASY STAR’S LONELY HEARTS DUB BAND SET FOR RELEASE APRIL 14, 2009...Don't miss out on this music!

Following the widespread critical and commercial success of 2003’s Dub Side of the Moon and 2006’s Radiodread, Easy Star Records announces the Easy Star All-Stars’ complete reggae re-imagining of the Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. The album, titled Easy Star’s Lonely Hearts Dub Band, is set for release April 14 on Easy Star Records and features guest vocals from an impressive list of reggae, dancehall and dub greats including Steel Pulse, Matisyahu, Michael Rose (Black Uhuru), Luciano, U Roy, Bunny Rugs (Third World), Ranking Roger (English Beat), Sugar Minott, Frankie Paul, Max Romeo and The Mighty Diamonds. The first single, “With A Little Help From My Friends,” featuring Luciano, will be released as an iTunes exclusive February 10. It will be paired with a b-side dub version featuring the legendary U Roy.

Dub Side of the Moon, (Easy Star’s reggae tribute to Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon) is one of the most successful reggae albums of the 21st century and spent over five years on Billboard’s Top Reggae Chart. Mojo selected the record as the second greatest cover album of all time. Radiodread, which tackled Radiohead’s OK Computer, spent over 18 months on Billboard’s Top Reggae Chart and earned praise from Radiohead themselves.

Of the decision to infuse reggae into the Beatles classic, producer Michael Goldwasser says “We’ve focused on re-envisioning concept albums as reggae and it’s really important that the source material works as a whole and is not just a collection of songs. So, what better to take on next than the mother of all concept albums?”

Goldwasser is once more the musical mastermind behind this album, having arranged and produced the music, assembled the musicians and guest artists and played guitar throughout. Goldwasser is joined by Victor Rice (bass), Victor “Ticklah” Axelrod (keyboards) and Patrick Dougher & Eddie Ocampo (drums, percussion). Members of the touring version of the Easy Star All-Stars also contribute, including Ras I Ray, Jenny Hill, Buford O’Sullivan, Ivan Katz, Kirsty Rock, Tamar-kali, Junior Jazz and Menny More. In addition to producing six albums for Easy Star, Goldwasser has produced albums for Corey Harris, Hatikva 6 and others, and has had compositions featured in the motion pictures Failure To Launch and Woody Allen’s Cassandra’s Dream.

For over a decade, Easy Star Records has been a trendsetting independent reggae label. Dub Side of the Moon and Radiodread (albums so good you can't believe!) form the backbone of a catalogue that includes progressive albums from John Brown’s Body and Easy Star All-Stars keyboardist Ticklah, reissues of classic material from Sugar Minott and Linval Thompson and new recordings from reggae legends The Meditations and Sister Carol.

ISHI DUBE : : LIONCAMP
Ishi Dube is a talented and determined artist with a profound love for reggae music. On stage, Dube doesn't miss a beat; he gives a sincere, energetic, and uplifting performance. Not only a singer/ song writer, Dube is also a skilled producer, musician, and sound engineer, he is involved in nearly every process of production from the roots to the fruits. Dube's natural talent and hard work are sure to gain notoriety in the world of reggae music.

Now Ishi Dube is exploding on to the scene, bringing a genuine roots reggae sound with a contemporary dancehall edge to the reggae community everywhere. With lyrical content ranging from political to spiritual; to messages of societal change, Ishi's vocal styles range from a sweet and melodic roots sound to a rougher, rhythmic deejay delivery. Dube grasps the attention of his audiences with multiple vocal techniques, accompanied by heavy riddims covering nearly every sub-genre of reggae; from ska, lover's rock and roots, to dub, rockers, and dancehall.

Universal Balance Entertainment is proud to present "Lion Camp", Ishi Dube's follow-up album. Lion Camp is an association of talented reggae artists who are both highly motivated and true to the spirit that reggae music was founded on. This collective was formed by Ishi Dube and fellow artist, Jah Sun with a vision to unify like minded artists by promoting, touring and recording together. With this strong network, each artist helps the next one rise.  There are currently over twenty Lioncamp artists hailing from all parts of the globe and the network continues to grow. Dube's new album is based on this philosophy, and features many guest artists such as Ras Attitude (USVI), Winstrong (Suriname) , Jah Sun (U.S.) , and Capleton (Jamaica).

Creating the "Lion Camp" album has been a labor of love for Ishi Dube who not only wrote the all lyrics, but also produced and arranged the music for nearly all sixteen songs. Some of the songs on the album include: "Bruk Dem Bubble" ft. Capleton - A fiery anthem about military recruiting and a failing economy. "Emptiness" ft Mike Marshall - A hip-hop/dancehall cross-over about finding positive solutions to life's problems. "Unification" ft Luna Angel - A song of unity reminding us to value those around us. The album art is beautiful, the music is well-produced, and the message is powerful.

the serenity prayer
from worldprayers.org
by: reinhold niebuhr - original version

God, give us grace to accept with serenity
the things that cannot be changed,
courage to change the things
which should be changed,
and the wisdom to distinguish
the one from the other.

Living one day at a time,
Enjoying one moment at a time,
Accepting hardship as a pathway to peace,
Taking, as Jesus did,
This sinful world as it is,
Not as I would have it,
Trusting that You will make all things right,
If I surrender to Your will,
So that I may be reasonably happy in this life,
And supremely happy with You forever in the next.

Amen.
