SOUL REBEL: AN INTIMATE PORTRAIT OF BOB MARLEY
OVER 200 NEVER-BEFORE-SEEN IMAGES OF BOB MARLEY TAKEN BY ACCLAIMED PHOTOJOURNALIST, DAVID BURNETT  PUBLISHED IN: SOUL REBEL: AN INTIMATE PORTRAIT OF BOB MARLEY

"Burnett captures the haunting Misty Mornings of the Isle of Springs, and the private Jamming and cloudy studio wizardry of its musical magicians. We see intimate portraits of Burning Spear; the Bush Doctor, Peter Tosh; the irrepressible producers Jack Ruby and Lee 'Scratch' Perry; and most impressively, the Prophet Bob Marley, deep in thought and serious as a heart attack, in the process of creating and sharing his immortal Redemption Songs."
—Roger Steffens, Chairman, Reggae Grammy Committee; founder, The Beat magazine; author of Reggae Scrapbook

For any reggae lover, music history buff, or Bob Marley admirer, Soul Rebel presents a unique view into Marley’s life just a few years before his death from cancer in 1981. Burnett, who has gained behind-the-scenes access to Presidents and celebrities throughout the world, remembers Bob Marley’s warmth and generosity. “I was a stranger covering him for an international news publication. Marley was especially hospitable and very forthcoming. We sat for a couple of hours speaking about everything from politics, to music, and the whole scene in Jamaica, and why it would give birth to a movement like reggae. His suspicion of politicians kind of mirrored by own, though his view was colored by the hard times he'd known growing up in Trenchtown. In a way, that is the beauty of his music, that from such harsh beginnings came such spiritual understanding and musical poetry.”

To celebrate the genius of Bob Marley on what would have been his 64th birthday, beginning February 6, 2009, and continuing through March 28, 2009, Govinda Gallery in Washington DC will present an exhibit of Burnett’s Marley images curated by Soul Rebel editor Chris Murray. Original limited edition prints of David Burnett’s photographs are available to collectors through the gallery.

REMEMBERING MIKEY DREAD
It seems surreal that it has been 1 year since Mikey's passing.

For life everlasting I will always consider Mikey as - My Boss, My Brother, My Friend, and My Teacher - Mikey accomplished so much in the Entertainment Arena;his shoes would be very hard to fill. I would hope that all the training and directions he afforded me over the years. I could give back to him the success he so deserved. By being the best I can be in following his directions in Reggae.

With that said: myself "Queen Mushiya" of Reggae Solutions Radio (Dallas) and Carmelita Harris of " Irie Vision Worldbeat TV" (San Francisco). Tune our love and respect to our Mentor Mikey Dread -The memory.

Our Pledge to the fans is to keep his memory alive and work hard to continue the work he poured his all into to the end; his undeniable dedication to Reggae.

Mikey continues to be The Dread who remains in control". Through, Radio, T.V and Print. It's amazing that one man - who was a Superb International performer on a Global scale. A producer, A radio personality and  television host etc. Took the time to develop myself  in radio and print and Carmelita in TV. It was our honor when Mikey referred to us as his "Angels". We are and will continue to give honor to the man who meant so much to us.
Mikey Dread - THE one and only, true DREAD AT THE CONTROLS- Our Love stands!!!! through Eternity

CHEF MAYRA'S - MEAT SUBSTITUTES
This is the third in a three-part series about my favorite subject: Meat Substitutes
Last week I discussed TOFU , TEXTURED VEGETABLE OR SOY PROTEIN, TEMPEH  And SEITAN and other protein sources.

The Eguide’s are archived from a link on www.reggaefestivalguide.com

Now let's discuss other protein sources for us veggies:

Here are other ideas:
o     Mushrooms: easily replaces beef in spaghetti sauces
o     Rice: prepared with taco seasonings, it works well in tacos
o     Cheese. Can use soy cheese of yeast flakes as alternatives to dairy cheese. Soy Free Faux Meat Replacements

Mock-meat recommendations:
Here are my recommendations to help satisfy meat cravings. The major ingredient is TVP - which stands for textured vegetable protein. TVP is defatted soy flour, a by-product of soybean oil production. It is high in protein and low in fat.  Some store packaged meat products are heavily processed and have their share of preservatives and colors, but I'm just focusing on the lesser of the two "evils" environmentally speaking - just about satisfying that craving for meat. I'm sure the cows, pigs, chickens and sheep would prefer I did too :).

You can also make wonderful patties at home- very inexpensively and simply.   There are just three things to remember.  Something bulky.  Something protein.  And something to bind it together.   For example:
Something bulky:  You can use left-over well-cooked rice --- or mashed potato -- or cooked Silver Beet/Spinach -- or mashed veggies from the night before --- or small pieces of whole meal bread (crumbed in a blender) --- or grated carrot  -- or mashed pumpkin.

Add Something protein: e. g.  2 tblsp. of Millet Meal (fine) -- or Brown Rice Flour -- or Almond Meal -- or Sunflower Meal --- or L.S.A.  (Linseed, Sunflower and Almond meal)  -- or  Soy Ricotta Cheese -or Soy Grated Cheese -- or mashed Tofu (best done in a food processor).

Something to bind it:  Egg-Like Powder with water -- or melted corn flour and mushroom gravy powder --  or tofu Spinach Dip.  The mixture has to be thick.

Add herbs and a little salt and pepper to taste. Form into patties with the hands.  Place in fry pan.  Sprinkle with Sesame Seeds or other seeds (delicioso!)  Fry on both sides until set.

You can make a lot of patties for a coming party, or enough for two dinners and lunch.  Keep them in the freezer or fridge.

Make sure you are replacing meat with healthy foods, not junk foods. Dropping meat from your diet should cause your energy level to rise, not drop. If you're eating candy bars and potato chips for dinner, you'll have trouble feeling the beneficial effects of a vegan diet.

Till’ the next week……. Stay Green, Lean And Sexy…With an “Animal Free” lifestyle

See you back here next week for more ideas on meat substitutes and a good recipe!

IN THE NAME OF THE MOST HIGH
Jah is Perfect Abundance, the Source of infinite prosperity. Jah is All Substance, All Power, All Energy, All Good, All in All, All Everything. It is the joy of Jah to provide perfect happiness, perfect love, perfect harmony, perfect peace, and perfect abundance to all of His children.

I am a child of Jah, a beautiful spark of the Divine, created out of the same Substance and Energy as my Father. My talents and skills are boundless. I magnetize new opportunity and unlimited supplies of money at all times. I am a success at everything I do, and everything I do benefits my the whole and attracts more abundance to me. My life is filled with abundance. I am blessed in all that I do, all that I am, and all that I create.

The Truth is that I am increasingly magnetic to abundance and prosperity. The Truth is that the Divine Source of All, the Omnipotent Being in Whose likeness and image I was made, wants me to have abundance in my life. The truth is that prosperity is for all, and that all one has to do is set the intention to have it and it is there. One can take a thimble to the ocean, or a cup or a bucket, and whatever vessel one takes will be filled and still the ocean will be full and give more.

The Universe is like an ocean. I now take my bucket to the Universe and I refill it as often as I desire to. Jah supplies my every need. Every need of my life and longing of my soul is now being fulfilled. Because I know that Jah is Everything, Jah is in Everything, and that anything that is not Godly is a creation in the mind of man and not Jah.  I am a part of Jah, I know that I am perfect and deserve good in my life. I now release my intention of prosperity to the Universe, and I am open and ready to receive my Good. Thank you, Jah. Amen.
