|
|
The doors to the "Rompin' Shop" will be opened
-temporarily - in the US Northeast soon as "Rompin Shop" queen, Spice,
fresh off her Award winning run will headline the Next Generation

spreading thick and fast especially in Connecticut where a massive

for the Connecticut faithful. The show will also feature Best New Artist (2008) Awardee, Konshens,
for whom anticipation is very high and not to be outdone, Big Ship
camper Laden is putting his Rising Stars experience to good use and is

Meanwhile,
Spice speaking on behalf of the other artistes said “we are all looking
forward to these shows,to satisfy our loyal fans and to make new ones
as well”. She further stated that “initially this was planned to be one
big show in Connecticut, but as soon as the word got out additional
stops were being added, which confirms the growing demand for myself and
the other artistes. She added, “were it not for previous commitments,we could have extended this tour to include quite a few more dates."
Opening acts for the Connecticut leg Blaq Capon, 860 and Aladon stated, “we’re all very excited to be working alongside such a stellar line-up of top dance hall stars”.

The 28th International Reggae & World Music Awards(IRAWMA) Black-Tie-Red-Carpet Celebration of Reggae Royalties, May 3rd York College Performing Arts Center in New York City
A number of music awards acknowledge Reggae and World music, with one or two categories thrown in to show some appreciation, so it’s only fitting that music so rich in culture and history find a home in a place with an even more impressive story to tell – New York. The International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMAs), honors Dancehall and Reggae music equally alongside its World Music counterparts.
The prestigious red carpet 28th Annual International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA), produced by Martin’s International & Associates, LLC returns to New York City on Sunday, May 3rd.The star-studded event, which is in honor of President Barack Obama is dedicated to health awareness and takes place at the York College Performing Arts Center located at 94-45 Guy R. Brewer Blvd(JFK-airport) in Jamaica, New York. The VIP reception begins at 6:00 pm and general admission is at 7:30 pm.
Ephraim Martin, president of Martin’s International and Associates, producer of the annual IRAWMA, said that some 30 countries in the Soviet Union and about 45 countries in Africa are just a fraction of the many places and media outlets which zero in on the IRAWMAs each year.

CHEF MAYRA’S REASONS TO GO VEGAN
|
|
What is a VEGAN? A vegan (pronounced VEE-gun) is someone who, for various reasons, chooses to avoid using or consuming animal products. While vegetarians choose not to use flesh foods, vegans also avoid dairy and eggs, as well as fur, leather, wool, down, and cosmetics or chemical products tested on animals.
Why VEGAN? Veganism, the natural extension of vegetarianism, is an integral component of a cruelty-free lifestyle. Living vegan provides numerous benefits to animals' lives, to the environment, and to our own health–through a healthy diet and lifestyle. Despite the common belief that drinking milk or eating eggs does not kill animals, commercially-raised dairy cows and egg-laying chickens, whether factory-farmed or 'free range,' are slaughtered when their production rates decline.
FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
Animal agriculture takes a devastating toll on the earth. It is an inefficient way of producing food, since feed for farm animals requires land, water, fertilizer, and other resources that could otherwise have been used directly for producing human food.
FOR THE HEALTH
The consumption of animal fats and proteins has been linked to heart disease, colon and lung cancer, osteoporosis, diabetes, kidney disease, hypertension, obesity, and a number of other debilitating conditions. Cows' milk contains ideal amounts of fat and protein for young calves, but far too much for humans.
LIVING VEGAN There are many alternatives to leather, wool, and down. And many are available at local stores. For example, Payless Shoes is a dependable source for inexpensive vegan shoes. Higher quality vegan shoes, whose longevity and comfort may be closer to leather shoes, are available from Moo Shoes and Otsu, as well as Vegan Essentials , The Vegetarian Site, and Pangea (both also sell a variety of vegan products, including clothing, accessories, food, personal care items, cleaning products and more). Acrylic and 'polar fleece' are popular alternatives to wool, available at many clothing stores. Sleeping bags and coats stuffed with Thinsulate, Polyfil, and other synthetic insulation are often warmer than those stuffed with goose-down. In addition, synthetic insulation retains its properties when wet. Most outdoor stores carry many options.

ROCKERS AVAILABLE ON BLU-RAY JUNE '09
|
|
MVD Visual and Blue Sun Film Company are pleased to announce the home viewing release of the ROCKERS for worldwide distribution on Blu-ray. Theatrically released in June of 1980, this classic reggae film has been transferred to HD from original 35mm negative and lovingly cleaned & restored.
“Reggae’s raw, righteous cinematic masterpiece…” - Peter Relic, ROLLING STONE
“Rockers is a Jamaican movie with the sparkle of The Harder They Come…in many respects the better of the two…funny off-beat players and a sinuous Reggae score.” - Janet Maslin, NEW YORK TIMES
"... one of the most enjoyable musical movies of all time, with a point to make and the sound to drive it home..." - Jo-Ann Greene, GOLDMINE "... ranks alongside The Harder They Come as the greatest film of reggae's golden age..." - Nigel Williamson, UNCUT "Arguably the greatest reggae movie ever made, better and much more varied than its well-known predecessor The Harder They Come." - Tyson Schuetze, RELIX "... radiates energy, but what really makes it great are the performances..." - Tom Bryant, MOJO
ROCKERS is a Reggae triumph. By all critical standards ROCKERS is one of the greatest Reggae films ever. Starring Leroy "Horsemouth" Wallace and Richard "Dirty Harry" Hall, it’s a Robin Hood style story of oppressed Jamaican musicians getting even with the "mafia types" in the business.
But it’s the all-star musical performances, appearances, and soundtrack that sets ROCKERS apart, featuring acting roles and music by Burning Spear, Bunny Wailer, Third World, Peter Tosh, Jacob Miller, Gregory Isaacs, Kiddus I, Junior Murvin, Inner Circle, the Heptones, & Abyssinians.

CHOOSE WHAT LEADS TO THE DEEPENING OF GOD'S LIFE WITHIN YOU
|
The goal of our life is to live with God forever.
God who loves us, gave us life.
Our own response of love allows God's life to flow into us without limit.
All the things in this world are gifts of God, presented
to us so that we can know God more easily and
make a return of love more readily. As a result, we appreciate and use all of these gifts of God insofar as they help us develop as
loving persons.
But if any of these gifts become the center of our lives, they displace God and
so hinder our growth toward our goal.
In everyday life, then, we must hold ourselves in balance before all of these created gifts
insofar as we have a choice and
are not bound by some obligation.
We should not fix our desires on health or sickness, wealth
or poverty, success or failure, a long life or short one.
For everything has the potential of calling forth in us a deeper response to our life in God.
Our only desire and our one choice should be this:
I want and I choose what better leads
to the deepening of God's life in me.
