CHEF MAYRA’S WHY HEMP IS SO USEFUL!
Hemp The Food of The Future!

Uses! Food, Soap, Shampoo, Cloth, Shoes, houses and many many more

HEALTH FACTS

*If one tried to ingest enough industrial hemp to get 'a buzz', it would be the equivalent of taking 2-3 doses of a high-fiber laxative.
*At a volume level of 81%, hemp oil is the richest known source of polyunsaturated essential fatty acids (the "good" fats). It's quite high in some essential amino acids, including gamma linoleic acid (GLA), a very rare nutrient also found in mother's milk.
*While the original "gruel" was made of hemp seed meal, hemp oil and seed can be made into tasty and nutritional products.

HISTORY FACTS

*Hemp has been grown for at least the last 12,000 years for fiber (textiles and paper) and food. It has been effectively prohibited in the United States since the 1950s.
*George Washington and Thomas Jefferson both grew hemp. Ben Franklin owned a mill that made hemp paper. Jefferson drafted the Declaration of Independence on hemp paper.
*When US sources of "Manila hemp" (not true hemp) was cut off by the Japanese in WWII, the US Army and US Department of Agriculture promoted the "Hemp for Victory" campaign to grow hemp in the US.
*Because of its importance for sails (the word "canvass" is rooted in "cannabis") and rope for ships, hemp was a required crop in the American colonies.

INDUSTRY FACTS

*Henry Ford experimented with hemp to build car bodies. He wanted to build and fuel cars from farm products.
*BMW is experimenting with hemp materials in automobiles as part of an effort to make cars more recyclable.
*Much of the bird seed sold in the US has hemp seed (it's sterilized before importation), the hulls of which contain about 25% protein.
*Hemp oil once greased machines. Most paints, resins, shellacs, and varnishes used to be made out of linseed (from flax) and hemp oils.
*Rudolph Diesel designed his engine to run on hemp oil.
*Kimberly Clark (on the Fortune 500) has a mill in France which produces hemp paper preferred for bibles because it lasts a very long time and doesn't yellow.
*Construction products such as medium density fiber board, oriented strand board, and even beams, studs and posts could be made out of hemp. Because of hemp's long fibers, the products will be stronger and/or lighter than those made from wood.
*The products that can be made from hemp number over 25,000.

As reported last month, Ms Triniti has shot the video for her current single and title track for her fifth album released in Japan entitled “I love the DJ”.

The single, hosted by Geefus of Stone Love speaks of Ms. Triniti’s love for a dj and the video concept totally depicts the song. A raging bonfire complete with beautiful dancers is a main feature in one of the scenes, shot on location at the Cable Hut Beach, Bull Bay.

BLACK JUDAH RELEASES TWO NEW SINGLES
Black Judah has released two scorching new singles. One featuring Dancehall’s multi-talented artiste Busy Signal called “When we a party”, a club type, rub-a-dub, Reggae tune and an original entitled “Hands Up”.  Both singles are already receiving consistent airplay on several radio stations locally while the feedback in the streets has been encouraging so far.  ‘Hands Up celebrates party life and sends a clear message to gangsters to put away their weapons and join us when we a party” says Dylan.  A video will be shot here in Jamaica by the end of the month for “When we a party”, this time around by one of the Industry’s prominent video directors.  Black Judah has unleashed another side of their artistry that Jamaicans have never seen before which sets the tone this summer for a total party vibes from the very promising California base Reggae duo.

RAS TAKURA PREPARES JAMAICANS AND THE WORLD FOR THE FOOD WAR
Food security is an issue which is faced by countries globally. FOOD WAR is a Poem by RasTakura-of- Royal African Soldiers, Jamaican Dub Poetry group, which addresses the issue of food security, and the dangers of genetically modified foods. The Poem aims to inform and educate its listeners/readers of the fact that we are engage in an actual battle for consistent food supply and organic food in particular.

Food security will remain a serious issue in Jamaica unless we have a  consistent Governmental intervention. The Government needs to subsidise agriculture and agricultural products in order for this country on a whole to move forward.

As Emperor Hail Selassie I states, ‘that a country and a people that becomes self-sufficient through the development of agriculture, can look forward to the future with confidence’.

Takura who is also a farmer and student of the College of Agriculture Science & Education, (CASE) suggest that one solution for Jamaica is that the Ministry of Agriculture should undertake the operation of more state owned farms and employ youths in Agriculture. This would provide a means of employment for many youths who are willing to engage in farming as a source of income but lack the resources to do so. In addition to this, Jamaicans must adopt a philosophy of self sufficiency and be able to feed ourselves and our neighbours, only this will secure our health and well being.

In light of the recent statement by the Minister of Agriculture that we should grow Cassava, as a staple that can be substitute for the present imported Rice and Flour staple, and the fact that the food can be grown almost everywhere in Jamaica with little or no technical skill; Takura urges the Minister to set up model Cassava farms and Processing Plants across the country and employ the people of the community to work and show them that it works(Cassava),thus engaging everyone in the FOOD WAR.

The FOOD WAR is opposed to genetically modified foods (G.M foods) and point us to the dangers of this development. What are G.M foods? Genetically Modified Organism is the most common usage (though 'manipulated' or even 'mutated' might also be appropriate!) The acronyms GEO (Genetically Engineered Organism) or simply GM or GE are also used. Genetic engineering is a radical new technology that forces genetic information across the protective species barrier in an unnatural way. Why be concerned? One of many good reasons is that these laboratory-created mutations are unlabeled, virtually untested for side-effects and on grocery shelves everywhere.
When the gene from separate species is used to produce a single organism, such as the using of animal genes in a plant for example ,the genes of a fish in tomato and you produce a Fish-tomato plant, so the people who like to have Fish and Tomato can have it all in one., or the crossing of Peani Walli with Tobacco, so when it is night the Tobacco plant glow’s and give a bright light. Foods that are genetically manipulated alter your normal body function. Some experts argue that it makes parts or your brain shrink in size, but we all know that once those seeds are introduce into a particular area the whole area will soon become infested with those seed types by pollination via wind, man and birds etc.  Studies have shown that more than 64% of the Soya Beans grown in Canada and U.S.A are genetically modified

FOOD WAR is here to reinforce the fact that the people of this country should maximise their support of our farmers, because the best food you can have is that which you produced.

The single is now getting a lot of attention from Jamaica’s leading radio stations. It has been featured in America (USA) for World Poetry Month April 2009. it is produced by Daniel Brown and the track created by Loxley Dixon who have made tracks for artist like Sizzla Kalonji, Queen Ifreka & Toney Rebel among others.
