REGGAE PLAY - SOUNDCLASH OPENS IN CANADA
What do you do when the one you love is the one who betrayed you the worst?

Masani Productions in association with Upfront Theatre Foundation presents the reggae musical, SOUNDCLASH.

The play is an expose of Caribbean life in Canada, particularly in Toronto. The story follows the life of an innocent Jamaican man framed for a crime he didn't commit. Upon his release from incarceration he sojourns into the dancehall culture to find the individual who committed the crime and clear his name only to find love, lies and deception.

This story unfolds in a series of flashbacks dating from the '70's to the present, utilizing the music of Jamaica - ska, rock steady, Nyah Binghi drums and reggae.

The play shows how violence, stigmatic stereotype and strong ambition can change one's life for the worst or even the best. SOUNDCLASH features the cast of top Canadian reggae singers and well-known actors.

The play is written by veteran playwright, Masani Montague, BA(Hons), MES and directed by international known director, Luther Hansraj.

The music is directed by Dr. Lennox Royer and the dance is choreographed by David Smith. SOUNDCLASH is based on characters from the novel, DREAD CULTURE, written by the playwright and published by Sister Vision Press: Black Women and Women of Colour press. Starring: David Smith, Tony Anthony, Shine Roc, Camille Lesley-Ann Walker, Nadera Jackson, AmandaWeise, Judy British, Jermaine Granville, Novrick Smith and Jemila Montague. REGGAE MUSIC FESTIVAL PLAN FOR LANCASHIRE, UK
Reggae music festival plan for Lancashire, UK
By Matthew Squires

Plans are being drawn up to bring a top reggae event to Preston next year. Town Hall chiefs have been approached by organisers keen to bring an annual 'Bob Marley Festival' to Avenham Park.

They have already met senior councillors and events staff to float the idea of a yearly concert leading up to the 2012 Guild. And the council has said it is keen on the idea – but awaits a formal written proposal before deciding whether to open talks. One sticking point could be funding because Preston Council does not have the budget for a major event of this kind. A similar festival last came to the North West in 2006, when Manchester hosted some of the genre's top names. One idea being discussed is whether the event could fall around the same time as the city's popular Caribbean Carnival.

Council leader Coun Ken Hudson said the festival's potential organisers have been asked to look at that. He added: "In principle we would support a major event of this quality coming to Preston – provided that the organisers can meet the budget requirements." If the idea did eventually get the go-ahead, it would be the latest addition to the city's growing live music scene.

The Rock in the Park event, which proved a major success on August 15, is also set to become an annual festival. Gordon Gibson, of Action Records in Church Street, said: "In theory it sounds great. The Caribbean Carnival seems to have built itself up and it would be good to have an add-on." Lewis Walker, of the Jalgos Sports and Social Club, in Rose Street, Preston, said: "We do a lot of networking with other communities in Manchester, Leeds and Sheffield so something like this would be a big draw." A Preston Council spokesman said: "We have been approached by organisers of a reggae festival who are looking at venues. "These were only initial discussions and we made it clear to the organisers that the council does not have any money to put into the festival, although we could help in other ways, by providing a park to stage the festival for example. "The organisers are now putting a proposal together."

Evangelist Claudelle Clarke continues to avail herself to the work of the Lord through her inimitable style of music. She will continue singing in her unique original style, spreading praises throughout the world.
"The Queen of Reggae Gospel

REGGAE SINGER/DJ, "MONSOON" BORN DENTON BEDWARD, HAS EMERGED ON THE MUSICAL SCENE:
Reggae  Singer/DJ, "Monsoon" born Denton Bedward, has emerged on the musical scene with a strong force as his namesake implies. His single "As Salaam Alaikum" has already created a buzz on the  international reggae music scene and has already earned a coveted Number 7 spot on the Reggae International Singles Charts!

After a successful 10 years with the award-winning Washington, DC-based S.T.O.R.M. Reggae Band (Strong Talented Organized and Real Musicians), founder and lead singer/deejay Denton "Monsoon" Bedward has stepped out to launch his solo career.

A native of Northern Clarendon in Jamaica, the veteran singer-songwriter's vocal ability has been compared to reggae veterans Capelton, Luciano and Tony Rebel. But where he really shines is on stage. After all, with a name like Monsoon, Bedward knows he has to come in like a strong wind, without mashin’ up the place too much. If you ask Monsoon, he'll tell you his passion to explode musically has always been in his DNA.

“I found my gift for music when I was 6 years old,” he said. “I sang in church and DJ’d on the radio and in school. My friends called me “Juke Box" – because as they would knock the desks, I would rap to the beat.”

A stage career was in the making from them (students even paid to hear him sing and DJ their favorite songs). While Juke Box was making a name for himself in class and on the playgrounds, his behavior didn't sit well with the principal and his teachers.

“I used to spend a good amount of time in the principal’s office,” he recalls.

Monsoon has opened for several international artists to include Elephant Man, Capleton, Luciano, and Steel Pulse. Recently, reggae icon Leroy Sibbles declared him the next reggae artist to look for, comparing him to a modern day "Toots". Monsoon is currently recording for some top producers in Jamaica and is in talks to perform for shows slated in Jamaica, Canada and the United States.
