Radio Wed. Jan 13th 11AM WBAI
FEMINIST RADIO AND BEYOND.... Wed. January 13, 2010 11AM (EST)
LISTEN LIVE: online:
wbai.org or 99.5FM WBAI Women's Collective
Hosts: Joy Rose, Linda Z,

Taking Feminist Radio to the next level...The Women's Collective covers the entire spectrum of political, cultural and intellectual issues crucial to women's lives, from feminism and revolutionary global sisterhood to critical aspects of movement building, the mind, body and yes, men! In the belief that debating and dialogue-ing with men, including our He Said, She Said... online column at Criticalwomen.net, is an essential component of Feminist Radio.

A unique multicultural and multi-abled gathering place for shared women's voices on the air, The Women's Collective is open to all WBAI female producers, listeners and community activists. It is also meant to provide a learning and training experience for all aspiring 'radio-active' women with a passion for covering social issues in their communities, and expressing themselves artistically on the radio. The Collective is also currently active in developing The WBAI Women's Desk with an online website component, and instituting Sister To Sister Station Networking with other Pacifica family stations. We currently have a KPFK Women's Desk in LA with Sikivu Hutchinson reporting, and a Chicago Desk with Jan Lisa Huttner of The Hot Pink Pen reporting from there.

Show topics: Reconciling Motherhood
Mother Artists, Mother Feminists, Mother Activists, Mother Academics - Who Needs 'Em?

Why in the twenty first century do we need a 'Motherhood Movement'? Haven't mothers done more harm than good? They've played with our psyches, polluted the planet and, if Sigmund Freud is to be believed, we'd be better off without all that guilt. Exactly!

For centuries mothers who were artists, educators, feminists and more were an oxymoronic concept. And yet, they existed. Carving out unique spaces for themselves in an often unwelcoming professional world or worse, sometime difficult home lives where social pressure and financial hardship went hand in hand with the path less taken.

Long denigrated as a viable topic for serious artistic or other practice, motherhood is gradually gaining credibility and increasing it's visibility outside the birth room. Dr. Phyllis Chesler, Alana Ruben Free, Andrea O'Reilly and many others have paved the way to combining this life-altering role with a successful and passionate careers. Institutions, however, are slow to change. As in centuries past, motherhood can still serve as a detriment in both the art, activist and academic communities.

I asked for help because....
This month I wrote all of you asking for your help. There are so many wonderful opportunities going on right now. Each of them tailored to make the most of YOUR talents, businesses and passions.

Since 2002 we've been devoted to seeing you through. Now, we need your help.
Please join us for one or more of the opportunities in this newsletter. Whether its an ad in the Mamazina or a donation for Museum Of Motherhood, WE NEED YOU TODAY.

The prospects of our own exhibit and office space for Motherhood Foundation and Museum Of Motherhood in Seneca Falls is beyond amazing. An open door where great work will continue in perpetuity, and (M)othering is documented, studied and supported through a social change museum that celebrates and articulates the vast cultural family. Ongoing Mamapalooza Festivals, where women and families come together for empowerment, music, merchandising and education. We continue to rock (and roll).

If you're not involved yet - Get involved NOW.

We Love You. We Thank You. We're here for YOU! Together We Are Strong.
