29th IRAWMA Top Nominees Julian Marley, Gramps Morgan, Queen Ifrica and Tarrus Riley Follow Musical Footsteps of Famous Dads
New York – Music legends Bob Marley, Denroy Morgan, Freddie  McGregor, Fela Kuti, Derrick Morgan, Jimmy Riley, Junior Reid and Jah  Thomas have an extensive list of classic recordings. So it’s only  natural that the children of these veterans would follow in the musical  footsteps of their famous dads. Julian Marley(son of Bob Marley), Gramps  Morgan(son of Denroy Morgan), Queen Ifrica (daughter of Derrick Morgan)  and Tarrus Riley(son of Jimmy Riley) are nominees and scheduled  performers for the 29th International Reggae & World Music Awards  (IRAWMA).

The black-tie-red-carpet celebration of music royalty takes place May 2, 2010 at York College Performing Arts Center, at 94-45 Guy  R. Brewer Blvd in Jamaica, New York.   Reggae singer-songwriter Julian “Ju Ju” Marley has been nominated for four International Reggae & World Music Awards (IRAWMA). “I give  thanks to the IRAWMA award staff and to all the fans that continue to  show their love and support,” says Marley. JuJu’s IRAWMA nominations  comes on the heels of a Grammy nod for Best Reggae Album the talented  artist received for his third studio album entitled, “Awake” that was  co-produced with his brothers Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley and Stephen  Marley, on Ghetto Youths/Universal Records.   Rising reggae star Gramps Morgan, Mojo Morgan and the group Morgan  Heritage, the children of Denroy Morgan have amassed a great body of  work over the last 12 years.

Gramps, fresh from smashing performances in Trinidad & Tobago is up for five IRAWMA nominations. He shares a  “Best Crossover Song” nomination with India.Arie for their duet on  “Therapy.” Passionate about his latest recording project, Gramps is  putting the finishing touches on a Country and R&B album that is set to hit stores later this year.   Jamaica’s sing/jay Queen Ifrica captured nine nominations and set an  IRAWMA record for most nominations in a single year for a female artist.  The daughter of Ska pioneer, Derrick Morgan, Queen Ifrica is described  as a “lioness on the rise.” A versatile performer Queen can sing the  sweet melodies of traditional reggae and rock the mic dancehall style  like a seasoned veteran.   Tarrus Riley has been surrounded by music from an early age as the son  of Jimmy Riley. His third album, Contagious is up for “Best Album/CD”  and his single, “Good Girl Gone Bad” a duet with Konshens received a  “Best Song” nod. Tarrus is also up for “Entertainer of the Year”, “Best  Male Vocalist” “Recording Artist of the Year”, and “Most  Culture/Educational Entertainer”.

Reggae veteran Freddie McGregor is nominated for “Most Consistent  Entertainer,” while his sons Stephen(Producer of the Year) and  Chino(Most Improved Entertainer) are nominated as well. Daville, son of  Jah Thomas is nominated for “Best Male Vocalist”. Junior Reid’s sons,  Andrew and Wadada Blood received a nod in “Most Improved Entertainer”.  Femi Kuti, son of Nigerian legend Fela Kuti is nominated for the “Best  African Entertainer.” Other leading IRAWMA contenders: Machel Montano  (five nominations); Sean Paul and Macka Diamond (four nods each);  Barbee, Beenieman and Vybz Kartel with three nominations each.   Among the performers for the 29th IRAWMA, are: Julian Marley, Machel  Montano, Queen Ifrica, Tony Rebel, Alison Hinds, Gramps Morgan, Barbee, Dean Fraser, Winsome Benjamin, Tarrus Riley, New Kingston Band,  Mutabaruka, Dean Fraser, Brigadier Jerry, Awilo Longomba and a host of  other international reggae, and world music superstars.   In addition to accolades to Reggae music, the IRAWMAs recognizes artists  in Gospel, Salsa, Latin, Reggaeton, Calypso, Soca, African, Soukous,  Compas, Racine and Hip Hop. “We remain steadfast in our commitment to  honor those who have made their mark globally in the Reggae and World  Music industry,” says Ephraim Martin, president of Martin’s  International and Associates.

TAJ WEEKES AT THE HOUSTON INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL THIS WEEKEND

photo
TAJ WEEKES

• Where: Houston International Festival, downtown Houston
• Tickets: $17, $3 for children 3-12 at the gate, H-E-B stores or www.ifest.org.
When Sunday morning comes down in St. Lucia, one might hear Johnny Cash on the radio, according to Taj Weekes, a reggae superstar from the Caribbean island.
Weekes said a typical morning might include songs by Jim Reeves, Merle Haggard and Hank Williams. The radio isn't formatted, so there's also calypso, some classical pieces and maybe some Elton John.

“I think it's healthier for us, rather than having one genre on a station every day of the year,” he says. “It leaves you feeling refreshed, and you get this rich musical education.”

Such a varied education is at least partially responsible for Weekes' status as the most interesting roots reggae singer to come along in a generation. There are no gimmicks in Weekes' music: no hip-hop, no party anthems, no visual shtick, crutches that have made dancehall a profitable, if shallow, permutation of reggae's history. Weekes sings in a high, brittle and otherworldly voice. But he's a songwriter first. His songs play out vibrantly with a band, but strip them down to just voice and guitar and they remain smart and melodic.

Weekes bristles at the notion that reggae must come from Jamaica. Though he heard a lot of calypso growing up, reggae is what carried his attention.
“But they're similar,” he says, “both followed the same tradition of telling stories. That's where dancehall has let us down; it's like they've forgotten about the message and the music. It's about affluence and things that don't matter. It moved away from telling a story into being about material things along the way.”
Weekes is less interested in the acquired things that make us different, which is why he titled his new album Deidem, which translates “all of us.”

“I think we're more alike than we are different,” he says. “We really need to pay attention to this, only way to truly understand each other is to sit and talk. We're too caught up in preconceived ideas about who people are and what they are. At the end of the day, I've never seen anybody with three feet and four eyes.”
For all of Weekes' one-world talk, Deidem actually started with a period of self-involved contemplation. Both of his parents had recently died and Weekes wrote seven songs “about my sorrowful state of mind.”

His mood shifted while watching Hotel Rwanda. “It got me thinking that my parents had lived to a good old age,” he says. “My dad died at 80, meanwhile there were children dying and being killed through no fault of their own.”

Weekes looked outward and came up with Orphans Cry, the first song that he'd include on Deidem. He scrapped the seven he'd already written and began work on songs like Angry Language, Propaganda War and Dark Clouds, which fit with reggae's storied tradition of documenting dark times and demanding change. The aftermath of Hurricane Katrina inspired Louisiana, a stripped down and ghostly lament.

Weekes' previous album was titled Hope and Doubt, which says much about his world view. He says he's always heartened by immediate outreach after disasters, but then is outraged by the “deadly silence” that ensues weeks later. “I can't build infrastructure in Haiti,” he says, “but I am going down there with 5,000 pairs of shoes.” He's been collecting them while on tour.

Weekes plays the Houston International Festival on Saturday, where he'll sing about hope and doubt in a reggae style that relies more on the varied roots music he grew up with than modern vogue fusions.

“The good thing about hope and doubt is that they complement each other,” he says. “That's the beautiful thing, we should most of the time be doing some sort of balancing act between them.”

THE 23rd EPISODE OF NICHOLAS Da SILVA'S GRAPHIC NOVEL SERIES 'DREAD AND ALIVE' FEATURING DREW MCINTOSH: JAMAICAN SUPER HERO

Dread & Alive....is an ongoing graphic novel series about Jamaican Super Hero Drew McIntosh. If you missed any episodes, click here to read:

Sensing that Drew would continue his line of questions, Maria interrupted the conversation.
“That’s enough Drew. Save your questions for later.”
Cudjoe smiled at Drew. “In time, I will tell you all about the amulet.”
Pushing himself up with his cane, Cudjoe walked toward Philip.
“We have much to talk about, but for now, let us celebrate your return. We have prepared a feast for your return.”
Cudjoe led Philip, Maria and Drew through the crowd, headed toward the center of the village. As Drew followed his mother, he noticed some of the children of the village staring at him, some pointing with their fingers. He wasn’t used to the attention and immediately sought refuge behind his mother.
Maria, sensing Drew’s fear, eased his nerve.

“Don’t worry, Drew,” she continued, “They are curious just as you are of them.”
Continuing through the mountain village, the McIntosh could feel a sense of excitement in the air, especially among the villagers. The women of the village, young and old, chattered and sang happily as they prepared a sumptuous dinner for the night’s big celebration. The men lolled in the shade, sharing stories with each other while drinking rum. The children flocked to be near Cudjoe in hopes of catching a glimpse of their visitors, most importantly, the new kid in town, Drew.
As the benevolent village chief of the Maroons, Cudjoe was respected in the village. Not so much for his status as village chief, but for the way he ruled over his people and for his reputation as being the myalman, or herbalist of the village. In the Cockpit Country, the use of magic, obeah and myal, was important and routinely practiced to protect their existence in the rain forest from their enemies.

The Maroons were indeed free-spirited people. Once runaway slaves, the Maroons became cunning and vengeful warriors, destined to keep their freedom. Drew remembered some of the stories his father told him about the Maroons. Of how they fought against the British to maintain their freedom. Of how they were the masters of the art of ambush, able to hide and strike their enemies without warning. And most importantly, how they learned to live off the land and nurture their young in the virtually uninhabitable Cockpit County.

Having reached the Kindah, Cudjoe was approached by two female host. They spoke briefly in a Cromanty dialect, a secret African language much different from their normal patois. The women nodded, then approached the McIntosh and escorted them to where they would sit for the evening events. Being the honored guest of Cudjoe, the McIntosh were asked to sit on the left side of the village chief. They were immediately joined by the three eldersmen, Quamin, Quao and Quashie, who took their place sitting down on the right side of Cudjoe. A moment later, the akete drums sounded, alerting the villagers that the ceremony was about to begin. The other villagers promptly took their place and waited to be served.

U.S REVOKING DANCEHALL ARTIST VISAS
WASHINGTON, D.C. (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) -- A spate of U.S. visa cancellations have led Jamaican dancehall artists to wonder if the reggae community has been caught in the crossfire of an international dispute between the two countries.
According to a report in Billboard, 5 different dancehall artists have seen their visas pulled, including Beenie Man, Bounty Killer, Mavado, Aidonia and Ricky Trooper. The cancellations followed closely on the heels of the revocation of the visa of prominent Jamaican businessman Wayne Chen.

Chen. Chen is a longtime associate of Jamaican prime minister Bruce Golding, who has been refusing to extradite alleged drug and weapon trafficker Christopher "Dudus" Coke, who is currently facing a panoply of charges in the U.S.
The U.S. State Department declined Billboard's request for comment, but cited statutorily "broad authority" in issuing and revoking visas.

The revocations have left promoters in the U.S. scrambling to adjust lineups, and at least 4 of the affected artists had been on the bill for Best of the Best concert, set for May 30 at the Bayfront Ampitheater, Miami. - CelebrityAccess Staff Writers

UPDATES FROM THE 25TH SUMMERJAM FESTIVAL - GERMANY

The motto of this year’s festival is not only an indication on the large variety of the musical spectrum of the 25ths edition of the festival, but expresses the pleasure of three relaxed summer days at the Fuehlinger See in Cologne in particular. Improving one’s mind and letting the soul tangle – all this perfectly legal, just with the strength of the Vibes and Riddims.

From the 2nd to the 4th of July, festival visitors and artists of different generations will meet here, creating a unique atmosphere that has made the festival famous all over the world. Reggae still is the soul of the Summerjam Festival, but especially the musical developments derived from it have found their proper place in the anniversary program. At the start of the Summerjam Festival, artists hailing from the Caribbean and Africa have been on the programme almost exclusively, inspiring young musicians to find a style of their own and to start a career by themselves. Nowadays, musicians of this new generation are among the highlights and the top acts.

What’s for Breakfast? By Chef Mayra
It's no secret that breakfast can be the trickiest meal for vegans when away from home. There are inevitably eggs or dairy in any menu option available. This is just another reason I adore having overnight guests, so that I may delight their awakening taste buds with yummy breakfast goodness that is 100% vegan.

Breakfast (Simple Meal Ideas)
  • Cereal or granola with nondairy milk
  • Oatmeal or other hot cereal
  • Vegan Bagel or toast with organic jelly
  • Pancakes
  • Soy or coconut yogurt
  • Fruit smoothie
  • Vegan Crepes
  • Tofu Scramble
  • Vegan Waffles
  • Southwest skillets
Let me take a moment to revisit a couple of things about “Eating Vegan”; in starting the transition to a vegan diet, there are a few different strategies. Some people shift into a vegan diet slowly, starting with vegan 'analogues'— plant-based foods whose taste resembles animal products.

Others simply take out the animal products from their diet and replace them with plant foods with which they're already familiar. Still others concentrate on experimenting with entirely new vegan foods, often from international cuisines.

Thankfully, there is no shortage of vegan foods to help make the transition. In fact, most of the food we eat is vegan, without us knowing it!

Breakfast is a fun time to try some of these yummy plant foods.

Replacing eggs:    There are several options, depending on what they are needed for. You may want to experiment. Here are some possibilities (each quantity is equivalent to 1 egg):
  • 1 tbsp gram (chick pea) or soya flour and 1 tbsp water
  • 1 tbsp arrowroot, 1 tbsp soya flour and 2 tbsp water
  • 2 tbsp flour, 1/2 tbsp shortening, 1/2 tsp baking powder and 2 tsp water
  • 50g tofu blended with the liquid portion of the recipe
  • 1/2 large banana, mashed
  • 50 ml white sauce
A word of caution, however: approaching these replacements for meat, dairy, and egg by expecting them to taste identical will be setting yourself up for disappointment. The texture and taste of animal products is impossible to duplicate completely. That said, once you learn not to expect that same taste and texture you'll find the alternatives quite delicious in their own right!

RED GOLD & GREEN FESTIVAL, BRONX, NEW YORK

REGGAE SCENE HOLDING ITS OWN IN CALIFORNIA
For Justin Crellin, there are few  more exciting sights than hundreds of nature-loving fans jamming to a  reggae beat. Even after 30 years, it gets his blood pumping. Crellin is  an organiser for the Reggae On The River (ROR) festival, an annual event  that has its 26th staging on July 26 and 27 on the banks of the Eel  River in northern California.

ROR is one of the longest-running reggae shows in the United  States. This year's line-up features roots stalwarts Sly and Robbie,  Sugar Minott, Pablo Moses, Sister Carol and the emerging Rootz Underground.

Crellin said ROR still attracts nearly 3,500 fans (the capacity  of its venue) but the cost of tickets and accommodating artistes has  forced promoters to scale back considerably on production.

"Over the past couple years we've seen a pretty steep drop in  attendance at not only reggae shows, but concerts in general," Crellin  told The Sunday Gleaner. "Thankfully, Reggae On The River has a  staunch enough support base that the festival has been able to weather  the storm."

Tough place to live

Financial commentators in the United States say the global  recession and questionable fiscal policies of governor Arnold  Schwarznegger have made California one of the toughest places to live in  the US.

But even in tough times, the state's reggae scene is holding up  says Los Angeles resident and reggae historian, Roger Steffens.

"The content of the line-ups influences how many people come,  unlike five years ago when most of the big festivals sold out," Steffens  explained. "For example, the annual two-day Bob Marley Day weekend in  mid-February in Long Beach <http://www.jamaica-gleaner.com/gleaner/20100425/ent/ent3.html> , now called the  Raggamuffins Festival, has experienced steep declines on its Dancehall  Day," he added.

The Long Beach Arena holds 12,500 people, but this year only about 4,000 showed up on  Dancehall Day although Sunday sold out.

Roots shows fare best

According to Steffens, it is the summer shows which showcase  mainly roots acts that fare best. Most of them are held in nature  settings in the hills of northern California.

"People come as much for the hang out as the artistes, so no  matter who is booked, there's still a massive crowd," he said.

The California summer reggae series starts May 30 with the  two-day JazzReggae Festival at UCLA. It is followed by three mainstay  events: the Sierra Nevada World Music Festival (June 18-20), ROR, and the Monterey Reggae Festival which runs from July 30-August 1.
Diehard ROR fans grew up in the California hippie counter-culture  of the 1960s and 1970s when they discovered Jamaican music .  Crellin said they usually decide the show's line-up.

"Fans definitely influence the types of acts we book. We receive  mails all the time about artistes people would like us to host," he  said.

ROR was first held in 1984 as a community fund-raiser. Promoters  estimate that more than 100,000 persons have attended the show since its inception.

THE 17TH ANNUAL SIERRA NEVADA WORLD MUSIC FESTIVAL WELCOMES DON CARLOS AND KORA
On June 18, 19, & 20, 2010  Mendocino county welcomes the 17th annual  Sierra Nevada World Music Festival (SNWMF)

Created  as an annual summer solstice and world peace celebration, the Sierra Nevada World Music Festival has been called "life changing" for many of its regular attendees the majority of which come as campers, committing to a three-day bonanza for the senses. Its name originates from its original festival location in the Sierra Nevada mountains. The event  takes place for the fifth consecutive year at the Mendocino County Fairgrounds in Boonville, CA.

This year's SNWMF lineup features some of music's greats in world, roots, vintage, dancehall, modern reggae and ska artists and sound system DJ's. Bands are scheduled in tandem on the two stages, and conclude with a  fire dance performance on what is known as the Valley stage, a site that is built from the ground up in the Grandstand area of the fairgrounds. The show's varied offerings for children including music performers a parade, and opportunities for participation in free drum, dance, and yoga sessions throughout the weekend make it possible to for cultural exploration on many levels.

The Village stage and Kidz Zone host Children's educational and multi-cultural entertainment. Sageman Drums workshops take place throughout the weekend and are open to all ages in the Drum Temple.  There is a full program of activities designated for the younger generation with kid performers, Arts & Crafts projects and a daily Kids Parade that will be led by the wonderful Samba Stilt Circus, a troupe of stilt performers.

The festival hosts several non-profit organizations and a diverse of ethnic food vendors from Indian to Ethiopian as well as vegetarian and sustainable raw food vendors.  Crafts in the international bazaar in the village area are curated to present a unique array of items from around the world and a zero waste initiative is vigorously pursued to manage the impact of the festival on the environment.

Select artist information for the festival is featured below, for a full lineup visit www.snwmf.com - see you in June!

Baaba Maal, the great Senegalese World music superstar will make a rare West Coast  appearance on SNWMF '10 as the Friday night headliner.  Baaba Maal has had a long and varied career and his latest recording is entitled Television.  In December 2009, Baaba attended the Climate Change summit in Copenhagen as the climate change ambassador for the Africa Talks Climate initiative.

Don Carlos is a reggae artist whose uplifting reggae music and countenance have inspired crowds for over a quarter century.  Don was born and raised in one of the most deprived regions of Western Kingston, Jamaica, in a district notoriously known as Waterhouse, launching his singing career back in 1973 as one of the original members of the roots vocal group Black Uhuru. Since that time, he has been in demand  as a solo artist on stages around the world. Don's latest release is entitled, Changes.

Barrington Levy is a driving force in reggae music and remains a perennial favorite and one of the most recognizable vocalists in reggae music history.  His latest single, "Watch Dem"  is a collaboration with rap legend Snoop Dogg and recent rap sensation Mims and it is  a version of his song "Murderer" a classic tune with a strong warning against violence.

Alborosie, born Alberto D'Ascola is a reggae artist from Italy, who has resided in Kingston, Jamaica for the past decade. He moved to Jamaica to be close to reggae music's roots and Rastafari culture.  There, he started working as a sound engineer and producer and collaborating with legendary Specialist. Sierra Nevada marks his first summer reggae U.S. festival appearance. Alborosie is touring in celebration of his current release -  Escape from Babylon to the Kingdom of Zion.

Each year the vintage reggae portion of the Sierra Nevada lineup is like another chapter in a "reggae hall of fame" presentation.

This year the Soul Syndicate reunites as a group who were one of the '70's most in demand touring and recording groups.  The festival will feature  original members renowned bassist George "Fully" Fullwood, Tony Chin, original "flyers" style rhythm guitarist and Santa Davis, one of the world's most remarkable drummers.

The Skatalites, the original ska band with close to forty years of instrumental firepower,  Ken Boothe, an artist whose energy and evokes the soul singers of the '60's and Big Youth whose MC-style over classic rhythms set the stage for what is modern hip-hop.

Roots reggae's reigning queen Marcia Griffiths was part of the I-Three's, the harmony trio that supported Bob Marley. She has had an extensive career in her own right with the standard "Electric Slide" as part of her repertoire as well as several other standard reggae chart-toppers.

Johnny Clarke was the new life-blood of the Rockers reggae era, becoming one of Jamaica's biggest artists, inspiring his contemporaries and promoting the message of Rasta both with cultural messages lovers refrains. His music fortified what is possibly the most crucial era of reggae, bringing songs like "Move out of Babylon," "Roots Natty Congo,"  "Rock With Me Baby,"  & "Get Up And Fight For Your Rights" to the massive.

As part of his group The Maytones, Vernon Maytone had his biggest hit with "Money Worries" that was featured on the film soundtrack: Rockers.

Prince Alla has had a career that spans over forty years, and has continued to be in demand in the digital era with roots reggae producers eager to record his unique melancholy singing tone and Rasta messaging.

A consistent principle of Sierra Nevada World Music Festival is the emphasis on the promotion of positive messages. This year the festival presents Playing For Change who've engaged audiences on screen via a PBS special and in the live setting in promotion of their non-profit foundation's release that features global matchings of street musicians and their mainstream counterparts.  Playing For Change traveled around the world to places such as New Orleans, Barcelona, South Africa, India, Nepal, the Middle East and Ireland, and, using a mobile recording studio, had local musicians perform the same song, interpreted into their own style that and included contributions from artists such as Keb' Mo', Bono & Manu Chao.

Making their second appearance on the SNWMF stage are Rootz Underground, Jamaica's next generation of musicians whose star continues to rise and are on tour in celebration of their second studio album, Gravity.  The group released a full length live recording as a free download that over 60,000 fans have received to date.  The group employ a dynamic combination of a contemporary roots/rock sound, universal messages and energetic and compelling stage shows to go beyond a niche definition - reaching across reggae boundaries into pop music realms.

Also appearing are Ooklah the Moc from Hawaii, an American band with a huge following that play quality roots-reggae originals. And from Kansas City, comes Queen Makedah whose smoky vocals and roots stylings represent the healing properties of reggae music.

The culture of the soundsystem and the vibrant, prolific nature of Jamaica's reggae industry and music movement are explored each year at the festival through a wide array of recordings.   This year when the sun goes down and the music on the two stages concludes, the fairgrounds' exhibition hall will be filled with the sounds of two of the world's greatest DJ sound systems including perennial SNWMF selector, Rory Gilligan of Kingston's Stone Love Movement and David Rodigan (SKY FM, BBC Radio) of the United Kingdom.  Also mixing in the dancehall will be DJ Ras Kush representing the New York City soundsystem scene.

For sound samples, additions to the artist line up, schedule by day and other information please visit  www.snwmf.com.

FESTIVAL DETAILS:

KYMANI LOSES HIS COOL

Singer Ky-Mani Marley was detained briefly by police in Cleveland, Ohio last Tuesday after threatening a disc jockey in that city.

Marley was in Cleveland promoting his autobiography, Dear Dad, on WMMS FM/100.7 when host DJ Rover allegedly made sexual comments about his mother, Anita Belnavis.

The singer reportedly left the studio but was told that the DJ continued making suggestive remarks about his mother on air.

Marley returned, barged into the studio and threatened to assault Rover whose real name is Shane French. Police were contacted and they detained Marley for 45 minutes.

Rover declined to press charges and Marley was released. Belnavis was a leading table tennis player in the Caribbean when she became pregnant for reggae superstar Bob Marley in 1975.

Werner "Semi" Francis : : Come Together
Free download of Love Is The Key :

Saint Lucian reggae artiste Semi has a new focus  and is now singing for the conscious at heart with his new single “Love is the Key.”

Semi has produced two albums “Collections 1,& 2” with executive producer Yves Lewis and a string of hits including his chart topper “Put Yourself In My Place”. He’s acquired a wealth of experience as a musician having worked the hotel, club and cruise ship circuits, which eventually led to his migration along with the band Summit to the United Kingdom.

With managers Pam and Paul Castle, the band appeared on many high profile shows, one of them being the BBC’s pebble Mill and through publisher David Most, the group signed a recording contract with RCA records. Since then Semi has performed alongside the best in the business - Sanchez, Gregory Isaacs, Culture, John Holt, Shaggy and Wyclef Jean. Semi drew further recognition with his band Oct 4 when he performed at the opening of the St. Lucia Jazz Festival.

Semi now back in St. Lucia, after recording and performing in Boston under the WildCubby music label has accepted the higher calling and has returned to his spiritual roots . Says Semi, “fulfillment in life is knowing the creator”.

The future is expected to see Semi taking on new challenges. He is now laying down tracts for his first conscious album in his very own home recording studio. The first single off the album is titled “Love is the key” a track promoting gratitude to the creator and one love to all mankind. Semi says he wants to help spread this message of love through the Caribbean and the rest of the world.

The artist has already assisted young and upcoming performers by producing a CD compilation “M4C” which featured nine of The Island’s young artist.

Semi has also produced for a number of other artist including Nintus, Pelay, TC Brown  Dot.K, Ben Alcide, Special Blend, Emrand Henry and Elra Ermay to name a few.

I ANCIENT : : Mirror Riddim
FreeDem is a song that was written by I Ancient and produced by GoldCup Records, an Italy based Record Company.  FreeDem is on the Mirror Riddim Compilation CD and was inspired by world issues such as police brutality, poverty, genocide/ homicide, wars, and other problems that affect the people of the world today.

I Ancient's main purpose with this single is to voice his opinion on the inequality and injustice of the Government (Babylon System) and their conspiracy theories. Living in these perilous times, I Ancient's mission is to warn the people to break free from mental slavery and return to their roots (repatriation) and the natural ways of living.  FreeDem is a positive movement tune that is sure to uplift the people and enlighten the youths.  Whenever you look around the world and see the struggle, listen to this song and it will remind you that FreeDem out of Babylon is a Must!
