"Food & Wine" Are Special Features of WNCAP's Annual Raise Your Hand Auction
Asheville, NC – Foodies will find this year’s Raise Your Hand auction and dinner of special interest. The event, which is an annual fundraiser for the Western North Carolina AIDS Project (WNCAP) and is scheduled for September 25th at the Doubletree Hotel~Biltmore, is well known as a showcase for local art. This year it will also feature food prepared by four of Asheville’s finest chefs.
Michel Baudouin of Bouchon, Anthony Cerrato of Fiore’s Ristorante Toscana, Joe Scully of The Corner Kitchen, and Eric Scheffer of Vinnie’s Neighborhood Italian Restaurant will prepare and serve food for the event. Scheffer is also Executive Director of Dining Innovations for the Doubletree Hotel~Biltmore and is providing leadership for this impressive foursome to come together in support of HIV/AIDS prevention and care.
"AIDS, which has no generational, race or gender bias, has had far reaching effects on communities and affected each person on this planet in some way, form or manner,” Scheffer says. “Because of this profound realization,” he continues “I consider it my duty and my honor to be a part of the solution in any way possible. I have lost family and friends to this disease and I am committed to doing my part to help in the fight."
Knowing that those who love great food also often appreciate great wine, event organizers have placed a special emphasis on procuring fine wines for the auction. Selections from Cakebread Cellars, Silver Oak Cellars, Tryon Distributing and many sought after collector bottles will be available. A silent auction and reception from 6 to 8 pm will be followed by a live auction and dinner. Both auctions will feature excellent local art and vacation packages, in addition to donated goods and services.
“The menu has not been completely finalized, but Eric is planning for international flavors that will allow each chef to showcase his unique talents,” according to Pam Siekman, Chairperson of Raise Your Hand and a WNCAP Board member. Beyond contributing their culinary skills, the chefs have also donated unique dining experiences to be auctioned off during the evening. “All four chefs are to be commended for their generosity in helping us with this important fundraiser,” Siekman says.
All funds raised through the Raise Your Hand auction and dinner will help WNCAP pursue its mission of providing HIV-related services to the people of Western North Carolina, which it does through supportive services for those who are living with HIV/AIDS and prevention education for all.
