Help Us Continue our Lifesaving Work!

Meet Axel, our Wonder Dog!

In May 2010 we received a call from a man who saw a dog (whom we later named Axel) limping down the road, favoring his front left leg. At first, we were concerned Axel had been hit by a car. However, once he was examined by our vet, he determined  Axel's injury was old and could not be repaired. Axel was struggling to get around with his injured leg therefore the vet recommended amputation.

Surgery went well, and Axel become more mobile almost immediately. Dogs usually do just fine with only three legs, and we’re hoping that Axel will live a long and happy life with a family who loves him.

Despite his injury, Axel is very much a young lab with lots of energy and a constant willingness to play! If you’re looking for a family dog, Axel might be just the right match for you. Come meet him – and bring the kids!

Meet Ollie

Ollie is laid-back, calm cat who came to Moore Humane Society because his owner was deployed to Afghanistan.  He’s a young adult, and he seems to have left the high energy of his kitten days behind him.  He’s actually a bit of a coach potato!

Ollie is neutered and appears to be litter box trained.  He is an indoor only cat.

Won’t you do your part and give this wonderful cat the home deserves?

Foster Homes Needed!

Moore Humane Society is always looking for special people to provide temporary in-home care for friendly dogs and cats until they are ready for adoption.

Foster homes are especially needed during this time of the year when "kitten season" brings in a multitude of cats and kittens. The more foster homes we have, the more animals we can help!

We'll provide everything you and the animal(s) need, including:

  • Food

  • Medical care

  • Medications and/or vaccinations

  • Hands-on training

Fostering can last a few weeks to several months. If you are interested in opening your home and heart to an animal in need, please contact us at 910-947-2631 or moorehumane@embarqmail.com.

Help Us Meet the Needs of Homeless Pets in this Poor Economy

Like many individuals, businesses, organizations and families, this poor economy is also affecting Moore Humane Society. We have seen a rise in the need for our assistance and in the number of animals being surrendered.

Unfortunately, our donations are down. We know in these tough times it's may be hard to find extra money to donate but please know every little bit counts and will help ensure we can continue our lifesaving work!

We are also are full beyond capacity with cats and kittens. This means we do not have room at the shelter for new cats until we adopt out our current residents. When you adopt from us, you are not just gaining a new friend and companion, you are also saving a life because you are helping to make room for another animal that needs refuge. We encourage everyone considering a new dog or cat, to visit our shelter.

Even if you are unable to donate or adopt, there are still many ways you can help:

  • Encourage others to adopt a new pet from Moore Humane Society

  • Help us spread the word through Facebook and Twitter

  • Use GoodSearch.com when you search online and GoodShop when you shop online (don't forget to designate Moore Humane Society as your charity).

  • Link your Food Lion MVP to Moore Humane Society (our organization code is 252044).

If you would like to make a donation, you may donate online or a check may be sent to the address below. Thank you for your support!
