Don't Overlook the Small Stuff

It is amazing how much information is coming down the pipeline these days that points to the many ways we are connected to each other, our world and the universe. If we can move beyond our positions of being above (dominance), under (victim), or other (separate) into a holographic space (part of), we can allow ourselves to be moved to higher states of realization. That means we will have a better chance of being all that we can be, which, in reality, is limitless.
Instead of watching the razzle dazzle of fireworks from China, follow the lightning bugs on a summer night. That which is closest to you is taken for granted. We make so many assumptions about things which come from our linear view points, instead of being without opinions and open to the mystery.
Think you know what makes plants grow? I read an interesting article called The Dawn Chorus and Life Forces by Cornelius van Dalen.¹ I don’t know if you have ever heard the dawn chorus, but it is breathtaking. Dawn, the moment just before the sun’s light lifts the darkness, is when the birds burst into song. It’s like a celebration of the rising sun for yet another day. Van Dalen said that the vibration power (resonance) released by the birds sets off a chain effect.
In The Secret Life of Plants by Bird and Tompkins, the authors talk about Dan Carlson’s discovery that where there are birds there is verdant growth, and where there is little bird activity growth is stunted. What he realized is that the birds’ singing dilates the stomata, or pores, underneath the leaves which take in moisture and nutrients from the air. Plants feed from the top down as well as from the roots up. Did you ever notice how the trees leaves turn upward when rain is coming? The breathing leaves are the source of nutrient uptake for growth, and birdsong played to plants enhances that growth.
Carlson, along with Michael Holtz, a Minneapolis music teacher, developed music of the same frequency as the dawn chorus of birds. As Holtz continued his research he said “I began to feel that God had created the birds for more than just freely flying about and warbling. Their very singing must somehow be intimately linked to the mysteries of seed germination and plant growth.”
As Cornelius said, “never underestimate the small things.”

An Abundance of Spirits

Orthodox Christianity is usually powerless to cope with spirit manifestations, despite their common appearance in Bible times. Yet, communication with the beyond is part of the Christian and the Jewish heritage.
According to the Scriptural record, spirits sent from above communicated to the early church. It is instructive to read expanded translations of some of the references made to spirit communication.
Many spirits were believed to be available for communication. “Thus also, as for yourselves, since you are those who are most eagerly desirous of spirits (spiritual powers), by desiring them in order that you may abound in them with a view to the building up of the local assembly” (I Cor 12:17, Wuest NT).Wuest erroneously inserts his own parenthetical interpretation “spiritual powers” here.
Part of Paul’s original meaning is translated away in, “So also you, since you are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek to abound for the edification of the church” (I Cor 14:12 NAS). The Apostle’s original intent is restored by observing that the word translated “spiritual gifts” literally said “spirits”.
Paul treats the different spiritual manifestations as if they represented a variety of spirits. “To an observer of the unseemly revelries it would appear as if not one spirit, but different spirits, were the object of their zeal”, (Vincent, p.269).
We submit that Paul knew what he was talking about and chose the correct words. In that case, his readers were familiar with communicating with a variety of different spirits bringing information from above.
John makes it clear the “the Spirit of God”, so translated, refers to any one of the multitudes of spirits sent from God. We notice the plurality of spirits of God in I John 4:1,2 (NAS): “Beloved, do not believe EVERY spirit, but test the SPIRITS to see whether THEY are from God. By this you know THE Spirit of God, EVERY spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God”. Hence, THE Spirit of God is EVERY spirit sent from Him. Paul makes the same point when he writes of “the ability to distinguish between spirits” (I Cor 12:10 NIV), and he identifies any spirit who declares Jesus is Lord as “the Spirit of God”, or “the Holy Spirit” (I Cor 12:3 NIV) or “the Holy Ghost” (AKJ).
A spirit sent from above is a holy spirit in contrast to the unholy spirits rising from below. This was expressed by a holy spirit with great clarity to Pastor Greber. . . . this is from the channeled messages to Greber . . . deep trance. . . Wherever the original Greek texts read "a" spirit, one of many is meant. You therefore distort the meaning entirely by substituting "the" holy spirit . . . This does not mean that there is only one spirit of each kind, but is merely an instance in which the singular is employed in place of the plural. You have the same usage in your modern languages, for when you say to a sick person: "I will get the doctor", you do not mean to imply that there is only one physician in the world, and when you speak of the farmer having had a prosperous year, you are referring to all farmers collectively. So too you use the terms: "the" workman, "the" lawyer, "the" artist, you mean all those who are engaged in the respective callings.
When therefore Christ says: "I will send the spirit of truth", He means spirits of truth, for as you already know, the Divine spirits are assigned to various callings according to their respective tasks. There are spirits of protection, spirits of battle, spirits of strength, spirits of wisdom and innumerable others. A spirit of truth has tasks of a very different nature to perform than has spirit of Michael's legions, and hence possesses different qualifications. Neither one can take over the work of the other. Every spirit has its definite calling, and is gifted accordingly. Similarly, Lucifer has marshaled his hosts according to their specific work. He too has his fighting forces, his spirits of lying, of despondency, of avarice, pride, envy, revenge, lust, and of every other vice. The different kinds of spirits, good or bad, are specialists in their various callings and are well qualified to influence those on whom they work, either for good or for evil...(Greber, p.371)
We point out that the term "spirit" refers to a thinking, conscious, acting entity existing outside of our minds. The word spirit "is never used in the New Testament of temper or disposition" (Vincent, 1977, p.387). Unfortunately, the English language has numerous idioms involving "spirit", such as "in good spirits", "in a spirit of cooperation", "a high-spirited horse", and others. Such phrases mislead the mind when we attempt to read similar phrases in Biblical language in the same way.
Various other terms were used to refer to spirit beings. For example, the term "angel" essentially means "agent", which derives from the same word root. This agent is a spirit agent, for angels are spirits as stated in, "Are not ANGELS ministering SPIRITS sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?" (Heb 1:14 NIV).
The term "gods" was often vague in what it referred to. It is said of man, "Ye are gods" (Psa 82.6), this statement being affirmed later by Christ (see John 10:34). The Hebrew work "elohim" is translated here as "gods". It is the same word used in the Scriptures when it is written that we are created in the image, or likeness, of the gods (see Gen 1:26-27, 5:1, 9:6). One might suppose, therefore, that a departed human spirit might be the entity contacted in a channeling session. “Plutarch believed in demons which experienced emotions just like human beings, and their mind was rational. In a sense, then, the human soul was also a daemon, but there were daemons who never entered bodies" (Arcan Mundi, p.41). In one ancient case, a woman's son was said to be possessed by a demon, who turned out to be the ghost of a man who had been killed in war long before. When this entity was in control, the boy spoke with a deep, hollow tone, not his own voice, and threatened the mother if she tried to get rid of him (Arcana Mundi p.155)
Demons were believed by Plutarch to exist as intermediaries between gods and man. He distinguished between good demons and bad demons, the import of the term demons being that they were unseen entities. At one time he attempted to calculate the average life expectancy of a demon (Arcana Mundi, p.206). The meaning of this word has changed somewhat over the centuries . It could sometimes mean a god (celestial being), an evil entity, or even the spirit of a departed human, although modern usage is exclusively as an evil entity.
Early manuscript fragments from Qumran indicate that angels can themselves be called "holy spirit" or "spirits of truth" or "of knowledge" (Ellis, p.70). Terms such as “angel" may also refer to a spirit guide, guardian spirit (angel), departed ancestor, or any entity from another spacetime dimension (possibly an extraterrestrial or space being).
It is clear that the early Christian communities believed that they were communicating with a large variety of spirits. Their desire was to converse with good spirits from the kingdom of God, which they called "holy spirits". Since the spirit more often than not was not identified by a name, it was simply called "the holy spirit". "The Spirit of God" never meant God Himself, but meant a spirit from God. The capitalization of "spirit" is a result of the doctrinal beliefs of the translators. It is clear that a plurality of good spirits must be inferred, a conclusion supported by various other New Testament passages, e.g., I Cor 14:12, I Cor 14:32, I John 4:1-2, Rev 22:6 (Ellis, p. 31).
As channeled spirit messages continued to pour in to the early Christian congregations, there were inevitable variances among them, and, in particular, between them and the church doctrines which were crystallizing. Gradually, the messages from the spirits in the organized church were essentially quenched, despite Paul's admonitions not to do so. Spontaneous prophecy became less and less frequent, speaking in foreign tongues disappeared, and healings were replaced by annointings and intercession of the presbyters (Piepkorh, p.380). This pattern had been played out centuries earlier by the Jewish community, whose solution had been to declare their scriptures closed to further revelation (Marsh, p111., p.102). So, too, did the early Christian church come to the conclusion that the work of revelation had been completed and there was nothing more to be added to it (RGSmith p 131). The work of the spirit was held to be fulfilled in certain defined ways within the sacraments of the organized church itself (RGSmith, p 135). The defense against further messages from holy spirits which might disagree with hardened church beliefs was completed by declaring the New Testament canon of scriptures to be closed and establishing an authoritative New Covenant side by side with the old one (Wand p.59).
By the fourth century, there were only two Testaments, never to be amended in any way, and there was only one holy spirit, believed to be somehow part of a triple entity containing both Christ and God. The history of Christianity since that time is well known, leading to an inheritance of beliefs by modern man which is at variance in critical places with the beliefs of the first century followers of Christ.

Care, Compassion & Service

Caring and sharing are two of the most important parts of humanity. Friends, family, pets, other creatures, and living elements of our planet all require maintenance, also known as service. Being in service to others is recognized highly as a spirit and character builder. People who have physically died briefly and been brought to life (a near-death experience) have reported many incidences of worldly service deeds being an important part of what they had been carrying with them to the next plane they were entering. Their service was more worthwhile and precious than all of the physical things they collected. Many feel that if reincarnation occurs it may be based on learning and service.
Many people could use a change of attitude toward those they care for. Everyone should be treating pets and livestock in the manner that they might want to be treated if they were living in the other creatures’ situation. Try caring for other creatures with a view of: "What if I were reincarnated into a similar body as any of my pets or livestock, what kind of care would I like to receive?". Extend this philosophy to any one you meet; as you could someday be as old, sickly, or weak as you see some of them to be. Treating everyone equally allows peace of mind to spread.
Compassion and service work together to provide assistance where it is needed the most. Important elements of happiness are derived from positive interactions with others. Interaction is found in a variety of forms from a simply "hello in there" expressed to a lonely person, to doing good deeds. As loving desires being loved in return, response to positive words and deeds is greatly appreciated by both parties. Although it is not required, gratitude for a good service provided is a feedback form having great significance to both the giver and receiver. Pleasant responses to kindness make both parties feel better.
Caring starts with self and extends to any part of our world. Good hygiene raises self-esteem and makes social interaction more pleasant for everyone. A positive attitude can be contagious: a smiling man who is walking spreads happiness or at least makes people wonder what he's been up to. Treating pets and people, as you would like to be treated provides a better world for all. An important part of caring is exercised through sharing the burdens of others, including all creatures. Caring for the planet and providing healthy natural environments has wide reaching effects by affecting the habitats of many species. Comfort, security, and happiness given through acts of kindness build spirits, with rippling effects extending to other people and forms of life.
Human caring is found on many different levels derived from the familiarity of family or friends to the mere knowledge of the plight of people in other countries. Actions from compassion usually speak louder than words, but even a simple "hello" can relive fright. Wealth gives greater opportunities for giving, but even a simple act of kindness can be of great service to one in need. Providing effective services can be a delicate balancing act often needing some form of reciprocation, so that no one feels they are being taken advantage of. Some great services like helping to change attitudes in society can benefit many without giving immediate visible results.
Reciprocation or gratitude makes services more worthwhile. As Love needs to be Loved, a reward for service done provides a completeness. Expectations vary from wishing for something of material or tangible importance, to being noticed, or may be found in the hopes of building status toward future goals, like becoming worthy of entering Heaven after this life has ended. Reward can come in the simple form of making the giver feel better from having done good things.
Well-adjusted humans are basically social creatures with a need to interact with others. Social situations bring expectations derived from preconceived notions. Measuring the world against oneself is common practice. People experience pressure from status, peers, and similar influences. Relieving these pressures and accepting those outside a group can be a great service. Pets have become an important part of many lives as they provide healthy interactions without the same obligations and feedback through language, as is experienced with people. Viewing life from a larger perspective, like realizing that someday you may be old and more fragile too, can provide a more compassionate way of treating others.
Spirits share a collective mind that is seldom recognized or nurtured in the age of self that we live in. All people are interconnected through barely known thought processes (i.e. "I was just thinking about you when you called."). We are sharing intelligence and feelings in the way that we think and act. Religion provides a common ground for spirits to commune with. Service builds the greater good amongst all people.
Living life in a positive manner and taking care of the planet are important goals for every human. Being a good example can be one of the finest services. If God was to appear to you today, what would you show him that you have done with the gifts you have been given or earned that would make Him proud of you?
Live in Peace,
Dennis Dunk

How To Hold A 'High' Seance (Part 2)

(Editor's Note:  This teaching was received by Johannes Greber from a spirit sent from the highest realm in the spirit world.  It can be found in pages 130 - 133 in the book, "Communication with the Spirit World of God", or pages 131 - 134 in the free download.  Part 1 can be read on our Facebook pages or on our website at )
“Whenever, during the course of a seance a person feels an inner impulse to write down a thought which arises within him, he must do so. In time he will learn to distinguish between his own thoughts and those which are inspired, for the thoughts instilled by the spirit-world will force themselves upon you insistently as you try to dismiss your own, and will keep on recurring, try as you will to disregard them.
“If anyone present should feel a certain giddiness in his brain or a heaviness in his limbs, if his head is turned from side to side or if his body should perform motions inexplicable to him,it is a sign that the spirit-world has taken him in hand. These sympathetic motions of the body are the most marked in persons who become 'deep-trance mediums'. The back and forth, up and down contortions of the body are connected with the release of the spirit of the medium in the making, from his body and from his physical od. The physical symptoms exhibited on these occasions are often alarming to those who witness them, for they are a sort of death-struggle, though unattended by any pain to the medium. But all alarm on their account is groundless, for everything happens according to established laws.
“The most difficult period of a deep-trance mediums training is the stage of what is known as the 'semi-trance' or 'part-trance'. His own spirit has not yet been completely liberated and has not left his body, while a strange spirit is already making use of the same for its manifestations. The medium's spirit, being still present, hears the words spoken through the medium by the strange spirit, and thereby the medium is easily led to believe that the words and thoughts uttered are his own. He thus incurs the danger of misunderstanding the entire proceeding and of regarding the manifestations as so much self-deception. It may easily happen, also, that the medium's own spirit breaks into the communications being delivered by the strange spirit, a proceeding which naturally awakens doubt among the others present.
“It might seem at first glance that the strange spirit would do better not to attempt to deliver its messages until the medium's training was complete, thereby avoiding unpleasant consequences like those described, but the reasons which impel the strange spirit to communicate through a medium who has reached only the 'part-trance' stage are so weighty, that it will sooner accept all the disagreeable features enumerated than postpone its communications until the medium has completed his training. For it is precisely during the early stages, when no fully trained medium is available at the meetings, that the participants thereat require instruction and elucidation on too many points to permit the postponement until a later date. So much that is of the utmost importance to them depends on what they are taught at the very beginning, that the imperfect manner in which the messages are transmitted is regarded as a much smaller evil than would be a total neglect of instruction.
“The transition from the 'part-trance' to the 'deep-trance' stage is generally of a relatively short duration provided that the medium will take pains to progress within himself and to combat his human failings. As soon as he has reached the 'full-trance' phase, a medium is entirely unaware of what the strange spirit is saying or doing.
“The most serious obstacles of all are the ones put by the evil spirit-world in the way of those who are seeking in good faith to communicate with the Beyond, for in this case as in all others, Evil does its best to prevent the accomplishment of Good. It neglects no means of trying to divert the seekers from their purpose, beginning by instilling into them the idea that the whole question is one of self-deception, auto-suggestion or hypnosis, and doing its best to dissuade them from engaging in matters which will expose them to ridicule.
“The evil ones will have accomplished much if they succeed in arousing serious doubts in one person or another as to the truth, genuineness and worth of the cause. For this purpose they also often exploit the most trivial superficial pretexts, especially minor errors and shortcomings, which are bound to happen as long as men are human.
“The evil spirit-world likewise tries to terrify persons being educated as clairvoyants, by showing them the most abhorrent monstrosities, grimacing likenesses of the Devil and other sights of that sort, in order to induce them thereby to discontinue their training and to abandon the cause.
“Naturally, people who devote themselves to a low form of spiritism are spared these demonstrations, for spiritism of this type is a connecting link with Evil, which consequently has no inducement to divert men from its pursuit.
“It is when the evil spirits are active that all participants, and more especially the mediums, are put to the test. A personal test is applied to everybody, and always at his weakest point. Only those who can meet this test are granted the gifts of mediumship. Whoever fails, will either abandon his search altogether, or fall wholly under the sway of the evil spirits. On this account all should pray for help and strength, in order that they may resist the temptations presented by the evil spirits.
“As to the duration of the seances, these should not be unduly prolonged. Generally speaking, one hour should be enough. As soon as the spirits manifest themselves through the medium, they usually decide when the meeting ought to be adjourned. For the Lord is a God who loves order, and His spirits are spirits that love order. This is made evident in a wondrous manner at all meetings held under God's protection, by the invariable attendance of a controlling spiritwhich conducts everything. It decides what the participants must do to facilitate the training of the medium and tells them how to go about to promote their own progress, what faults to correct and what virtues to cultivate. The controlling spirit often decides upon the passages from the Holy Writ which are to be read at the beginning of the seance and occasionally alters the order of seating of the participants as may be required for obtaining an increase of odic energy. It furthermore determines what spirits are to be admitted into the mediums, the nature of the messages they may deliver and how long they may stay in the medium. It may also admit evil spirits into him, so that the other persons present shall come to know such spirits by their dispositions and actions, and thereby acquire practical experience in how to comport themselves in their presence. Nothing, however, pleases the controlling spirit more than to admit spirits which are in deep distress but whose disposition remains fairly good, into the mediums, in order to give these spirits an opportunity of being advised, and directed to turn to God, by those present. This is a great kindness which those in attendance at such meetings can thus do to their suffering brethren in the Other World. Sometimes the controlling spirit will later on explain its reasons for the admission of the various spirits.
“At every meeting the controlling spirit is the first of the spirits to arrive, and always with a greeting that makes a reference to God. It is the spiritual guide of those gathered together, whom it admonishes, warns, criticizes and instructs. In particular, it emphasizes the need of an ever greater belief and trust in God.
“The closer man's soul approaches to God, the greater his share in the power that emanates from Him, and the greater and more wonderful the gifts which the Lord bestows upon him for the benefit of his fellow men. Thus the aim of every seance in which God's spirits are active is: “Nearer my God to Thee!”

Biblical Spiritualism - Materialization and Physical Phenomena

Acts 12:1-17 KJV
Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to vex certain of the church. (2) And he killed James the brother of John with the sword. (3) And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to take Peter also. (Then were the days of unleavened bread.) (4) And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people. (5) Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him. (6) And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison. (7) And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands. (8) And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me. (9) And he went out, and followed him; and wist not that it was true which was done by the angel; but thought he saw a vision. (10) When they were past the first and the second ward, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth unto the city; which opened to them of his own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and forthwith the angel departed from him. (11) And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that the Lord hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews. (12) And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together praying. (13) And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a damsel came to hearken, named Rhoda. (14) And when she knew Peter's voice, she opened not the gate for gladness, but ran in, and told how Peter stood before the gate. (15) And they said unto her, Thou art mad. But she constantly affirmed that it was even so. Then said they, It is his angel. (16) But Peter continued knocking: and when they had opened the door, and saw him, they were astonished. (17) But he, beckoning unto them with the hand to hold their peace, declared unto them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said, Go shew these things unto James, and to the brethren. And he departed, and went into another place.

More Biblical Spiritualism

Today I met my Teacher,
He said "Be still my dear,
Your thoughts are causing aching,
Your suffering brings me here."
I stopped and faced my Teacher,
So I could hear the words he said,
How did he know my turmoil?
Thoughts running through my head.
I saw the pain across his face,
The sadness in his eyes,
It hurt to think my turmoil,
Was affecting one so wise.
I placed my hand upon my heart,
For there lay all my pain,
Was then he made me realize,
Suffering was my choice again.
Why did I do this to myself?
And choose to hurt inside,
Hadn't I suffered long enough?
Why did I choose to hide?
I knew inside I had the strength,
To rise above all pain,
I knew the choice to suffer now,
Had been mine once again.
I knew the choice of happiness,
Lay there within my soul,
I'd only got to choose it,
And once again feel whole.
The Teacher smiled so broadly,
As he wiped away my tears,
For he knew I'd found the answers,
Hidden behind my fears.
He placed his hands upon my head,
And with Love began to heal,
All my scars from suffering,
The pain I'd chose to feel.

Laugh Of The Month

Sorry, Wrong Address!
It's wise to remember how easily this wonderful e-mail technology can be misused, sometimes unintentionally, with serious consequences.

Consider the case of the Illinois man who left the snow-filled streets of Chicago for a vacation in Florida. His wife was on a business trip and was planning to meet him there the next day. When he reached his hotel, he decided to send his wife a quick e-mail. Unable to find the scrap of paper on which he had written her e-mail address, he did his best to type it in from memory.

Unfortunately, he missed one letter, and his note was directed instead to an elderly preacher's wife, whose husband had passed away only the day before. When the grieving widow checked her e-mail, she took one look at the monitor, let out a piercing scream, and fell to the floor in a dead faint. At the sound, her family rushed into the room and saw this note on the screen:

Dearest Wife,

Just got checked in. Everything prepared for your arrival tomorrow.

PS. Sure is hot down here.
The New Organist
The minister was preoccupied with thoughts of how he was going to, after the worship service, ask the congregation to come up with more money than they were expecting for repairs to the church building. Therefore, he was annoyed to find that the regular organist was sick and a substitute had been brought in at the last minute.
The substitute wanted to know what to play. "Here's a copy of the service," he said impatiently. "But you'll have to think of something to play after I make the announcement about the finances."
At the end of the service, the minister paused and said, "Brothers and Sisters, we are in great difficulty; the roof repairs cost twice as much as we expected, and we need $4,000 more. Any of you who can pledge $100 or more, please stand up.” At that moment, the substitute organist played "The Star-Spangled Banner." And that is how the substitute became the regular organist!
