Cherry, a Victim of a Dogfighting Operation, Finds Sanctuary at MHS

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) recently rescued 200 dogs from a suspected dogfighting operation in southeast Ohio.

As part of HSUS's Emergency Placement Program, Moore Humane Society agreed to take in one dog of the rescued dogs. This past Saturday, one of our Board Members drove to Virginia to pick up Cherry, a tan and white Pit Bull. Other than a cherry eye (which no doubt inspired her name), she is in good health and sweet as she can be. Although healed, her painful past is evident in old bite wounds on her front legs and face.

Prior to making her journey to NC, Cherry received her vaccinations and was tested for heartworm. Eager to help her make a full recovery, we brought her to Animal Health Center where her eye was repaired and she was spayed.

We need your help finding Cherry a loving home free from chains. She is a very sweet dog and needs a devoted person to help her make a new start.

If you'd like to meet Cherry, please visit us at the shelter. And please pass this email along to all your friends and family so that Cherry may finally find the loving home she deserves!

Meet Champ!

Champ appears to be an adult Labrador Retriever mix. He is a neutered male who came to MHS as a stray. Champ weighs in at a hefty 88 lbs! Though he is large in size he is very gentle at heart! He knows how to sit and will try to stay (though he will talk to you while he patiently waits)!  He is very loving and enjoys the companionship of people!

If you are looking for a dog that is fairly laid back amd will love you without limits, Champ may be just the dog for you! Stop by and meet this handsome fella! He is waiting patiently for a loving home to call his own!

Meet Miss Mitzi!

Mitzi is a young spayed female. Mitzi was brought to MHS along with the rest of her litter and her mother, when she was only a couple days old. She is a sweet little girl who loves to play! She has been well socialized with people as well as other cats. She gets along very well with our others cats and kittens at the shelter.

Mitzi is a beautiful cat and will make a wonderful companion for the family she becomes a part of.

Help Us Meet the Needs of Homeless Pets in this Poor Economy

Like many individuals, businesses, organizations and families, this poor economy is also affecting Moore Humane Society. We have seen a rise in the need for our assistance and in the number of animals being surrendered.

Unfortunately, our donations are down. We know in these tough times it's may be hard to find extra money to donate but please know every little bit counts and will help ensure we can continue our lifesaving work!

We are also are full beyond capacity with cats and kittens. This means we do not have room at the shelter for new cats until we adopt out our current residents. When you adopt from us, you are not just gaining a new friend and companion, you are also saving a life because you are helping to make room for another animal that needs refuge. We encourage everyone considering a new dog or cat, to visit our shelter.

Even if you are unable to donate or adopt, there are still many ways you can help:

  • Encourage others to adopt a new pet from Moore Humane Society

  • Help us spread the word through Facebook and Twitter

  • Use GoodSearch.com when you search online and GoodShop when you shop online (don't forget to designate Moore Humane Society as your charity).

  • Link your Food Lion MVP to Moore Humane Society (our organization code is 252044).

If you would like to make a donation, you may donate online or a check may be sent to the address below. Thank you for your support!
