Your Choice

In class, I like to offer "Yogi's choice" options. We do this for ourselves, too, throughout life. The advanced yogic action is not which choices we make, but to know and to own every one of our choices, as our own.

For whose else are they? "I had no choice?" "The choice was not mine?" It is always ours. Then and now. Yes, this too. Yes, I chose this. And what - in this moment - what NOW do I choose? That's our question. No blame, no shame, for no choices exist in the past, only in this moment.

Yoga tradition says we choose even our genetics and families, as our life syllabus. Whatever we may feel about that, the act of Thanksgiving, at a deep level, embraces our current life as a choice we have manifested and are presently manifesting. Thus, Thanksgiving carries huge power, and is indeed an advanced yogic act. When we choose to celebrate our life, we give a giant Namaste to our power to make our choices; and we open ourselves to receiving that Namaste back.

May you always delight in making your choices in life, & owning them!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Holiday Thanks...

Big thanks to my 3 wonderful restorative assistants Hiroki, Amy, and Keren who joined me on Sunday, November 21 to treat our full house of blissed-out restorative guests at Pure East.

Our Holiday Restorative workshop included Young Living Essential Oils journeying with us through the seven chakras, and the luscious Indu lotion to complete our trip. Valentine's Day weekend may be my next 2-hour Restorative offering. Keep posted...

We chose to share the love for this holiday event with City Harvest. Below are a few other favorite charities of mine in this season when we often feel we have ample and want to share with those who have less.

CITY HARVEST

Animal Husbandry

"Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, feed him for life." All three of the following charities seek more long-term, self-sustaining solutions to poverty.

Heifer International lets you donate livestock of your choosing, to a needy family and community around the globe, and teaches that family to care for and to breed the animals, and they are then enjoined to return the offspring to the community to keep the sustainability chain growing.

Heifer includes lovely gift cards you can send to honor friends and family so you both share in aiding a community toward self-feeding care.

HEIFER INTERNATIONAL

Help New York's Homeless

Beyond just a meal, Project Renewal is a 43-year-old organization working with shelters, mobile medical outreach units, treatment centers, employment programs, and literacy and vocational programs, and housing programs, to help move men and women from New York streets into health, homes and jobs.

PROJECT RENEWAL

A House of One's own

Habitat is well-known for empowering homeowner candidates by letting them partake in their own home-building alongside volunteers, and, as with Heifer, by requiring a serious commitment to repay the energy and expense invested in them, so that there is a social contract of responsibility and pride reaped as much as the very real joy and comfort of their own house and home for their family.

Pumpkin Pie Recipe

Spiced Pumpkin Pie: using Young Living Essential Oils

- Recipe by Judy Jehn, CMT, judyjehn@comcast.net

1 unbaked pie shell
1/4 + 1/8 cup Young Living’s Blue Agave
2 large organic eggs
2 drops cinnamon essential oil
2 drops ginger essential oil
1 drop clove essential oil
1 drop nutmeg essential oil
¼ tsp salt
1 cup fresh organic pumpkin puree
1 ½ cups heavy (double) cream, scalded

Preheat oven to 375° F.

In a large bowl, whisk together the agave and eggs until well blended. Add the cinnamon, ginger, clove and nutmeg essential oils and the salt. Mix well.

Add the pumpkin puree and scalded cream and whisk until smooth. Pour into the pie shell.

Bake the pie for 10 minutes at 375° F, reduce heat to 350° F and continue baking for 35 – 45 minutes until the filling is firm in the center. Test the center with the tip of a knife; if it comes out clean, the pie is done.

Serve with whipped cream!
